One way to avoid bumping a thruster during Torch Drive travel might be to click on the Nav Mode switch so it's set to map controls instead of RCS maneuvers.

i legit thought this game was abandoned. after watching some vids yesterday. seeing 4 year old vids to current playthroughs. that said i did look up their update logs and see i was WRONG. they are active and working on game. then to find this whole beginners guide, and the last few vids of the 14 build and all the additions, changes, fixes. again really helps to show me they are active and not just doing little bug fixes here and there and saying they still working on game like some do. its clear this game is still being actively built on to try and get to their 1.0 goal. that said i did read the dev diary and see the game is floating around their spending limits..... meaning this last update and sales seemed to be big boost in sales to help them continue on their goals for now. game needs attention, sales if we are to get a 1.0 release it seems to me. i hope it makes that mark. steamDB def shows player spike for this patch drop. and players are STAYING with the game consistantly coming back playing 2 months later. so that is great.

Great video. I've worked with vacuum pump IRL for research reason. My engineering brain is auto translating the RGH setting in context to Rough as rough is RGH after dropping the vowels. It is fairly common with ultrahigh vacuum systems to have a turbomolecular pump and a rough pump. The turbomolecular pump is not designed to work at atmospheric pressures so you have to rough pump down to a pressure that is referred to as rough pressure so that it is safe to operate the turbomolecular pump in conjunction with the rough pump to get to ultralow pressures.

This is correct and in line with what the dev (dcfedor) said in an old reddit post... which I cannot point you towards because KZbin keeps deleting my comment for some inexplicable reason.
@Salted_FyshАй бұрын
Speaking from my own experience, KZbin doesn't allow links in the comments. It also doesn't bother to tell you what you can and can't do before you post and will just ninja your comments and you'll never be the wiser unless you specifically go back to check and see your comment doesn't exist. Another one of those things is comments that get flagged for channel admin approval. And I believe the only one who can do that is the channel owner? This one I'm not sure about, this is second-hand stuff I've vaguely heard about.

After watching your entire beginner's guide, I now feel confident enough to give the game another try. I had just started but failed numerous times, almost leading me to abandon it entirely. Your guide has restored my hope in the game. Thank you, sir. Godspeed!
@NotHappening-b8t26 күн бұрын
my only concern is game gets abandoned. from what i seen of dev files they are borderline on funding. so .14 build may be last big update we get. i would bet with how well this update has gone. and the attention i seen this game getin on youtube last few months that it will get .15 release at least... steamdb shows player base going up little as videos released on bigger named channels drawing 100k views for this game. steam DB estimates 42k-116k copies sold. so getting 100k eyes on it def be big boost in this games sales, and future.

The fact that VORB is in orbit and that you're approaching obliquely (rather than directly in front or behind) will account for a lot of that "drift." You have to kind of "chase" the station with lots of different inputs. We see this in OKLG as well, but the rotation is slower so it doesn't seem as wild. If you position yourself directly behind the station and [K] match speed first before doing the docking approach, it will cancel out most of the lateral motion & drifting. In space, everything is in (curved) motion. Just gotta get on the same curve! :D I'm wildly impressed with the motion simulation of this game.

Congratz on making it to Venus! Also thanks for the vacuum tips, I'm going to try the rough, then to turbo, then to off to see if its even more efficient. Also I picked up on your backpack storage tip and I never thought of storing them full, I know it's a very basic concept but in 200+ hours in orbit I've never thought of doing anything with the full ones other than throwing them on the floor. Might have to wait to watch your next video till I get to Venus myself tho. Thanks again for making these great, concise guides with thorough explanations, you've made my time in the game so much more enjoyable.

I was looking at some of the ships that are pre-designed and for sale. I noticed that the longer-range ones have two nav antennas. Your story of the micro-meteorite explains why, I guess! Nothing like spending hours to get to venus only to have the police assume you are in a stolen ship. Additionally, in a Damage Control situation, maybe it's a good idea to quickly shut down the reactor to get out from under thrust - can we do that from the PDA Nav interface? This would require starting up the reactor again and probably a re-plot of course... which is why I want like twice as much core fuel as required lol
@antonkovalov96483 ай бұрын
My advice would be to have a few storage bays crammed full with parts(the scrap parts, not full functional parts). Then in case anything happens you can just go and repair it on the go. It's not possible to control the ship from the PDA as far as I know, but you'd really want to be at the nav console yourself for the breaking part of your final burn, autopilot always turns off in my save and I have to stop manually. To turn off the torch drive you can just flick a tumbler to turn the torch drive off and when paused lower the fusion rate at the console.

The orbital station accelerating and decelerating relative to you isnt that strange when you consider that youre neither the Station nor Venus. The relative velocity between those two is constant, but you, just like the Station, are falling around Venus, but youre not at the same distance to Venus, nor are you the same Mass. Something that helped me understand it is thinking about what the Stations relative velocity would look like if you were in stationary orbit around venus, basically always looking at the same spot on the surface. Youd be seeing the Vorb station speed past you below where you are at speeds relatively slow compared to what its speed would be when its going away or approaching the closest point of orbit with you.
@mochad3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the post! I think what you're referring to is parallax. And from a cinematic perspective, that could be. But, if I match speeds with the station (the process of station keeping), I should see a near-constant relative velocity, at least over short periods of time, if we're in nearly identical orbits, unless there are external forces (friction, for example) in play. Gravity could be one of those, but it would also have to affect the station, so it is a net wash. This is what you see at KLEG. My griping about it won't change it, that's for sure. :) They've chosen to make it harder than OLEG. That may be a wise choice, from a gaming perspective.

Question, does the torch drive need to be on continuously? It seems like space should allow you to conserve momentum after plotting a course without constant thrust.
@mochad2 ай бұрын
Honestly, I haven't tried it. When the engine isn't firing, the reactor runs at lower power (4.1kg fuel/day in my case). You could probably turn it off altogether. But, if your batteries die, I'm not sure what you would do. Also, It could affect the autopilot aspects of the process. Certainly something to try. That's what saves are for, right? ;)

When I landed at venus, the station was void of atmosphere and everyone was dying/suffocating. Is this normal??? My ship was also getting fucked by the gravitational pull of the planet.
@tangahkoncek68413 ай бұрын
There seems to be a bug in NPC activities Expecialy if you stay too long in OKLG, NPC won't unequip their helmet so when they run out of oxygen they die which lead to unmanned neglected station. They also won't wake up from their sleeping schedule in which result to the same state. That's what I've been noticing in the early access

@mochad3 ай бұрын
In a word, no. At least, not for my play style. There is no salvaging to speak of. The only food I’ve found d is rations. I could be missing something, but there’s not a lot at the Venus Orbital station. Possibly there are other areas. I was told there is racing, for instance. It may be planetside. I can’t go planetside. Yet. 😂

Is there a way to de-couple the torch drive from your power grid so it only provides thrust?
@JakeDiToro3 ай бұрын
Two things. Docking w/ Venus: Maybe this is what the Station Keeping/Match speed control is for. When watching another video they mention that that made things harder at the derilect/KLEG end, but maybe that would make this dock eaiser. Auto Eating: Set the roster on long voyages? I'd assume if he was on rest time that he would automatically eat during those periods.
@antonkovalov96483 ай бұрын
Match speed is useful when you just want to stay around VORB but its orbit is not safe at all and you should be either flying around scrapping ships(scrapping ships around Venus is a real pain) or be docked at it. Oh, and do have a Tow Brace engaged when docked to VORB if you're going to be there a while, without it being engaged my ship sometimes just gets trashed without any clear reason. The auto-eating part is handled well by itself(for your main character) as long as the autotask is turned on, the washing and drinking aren't for some reason. If you have a hired NPC you'll have to babysit them manually or they'll starve or dehydrate.
