The information about their salary was visible while you were negotiating. It shows up on their information page and was partially covered by the menu options. It can be seen at 9:30.

Thanks! I'd never noticed that before. I'm guessing I expected it in the dialog window.

Got 2 recruits but sadly they were expensive AF ... had sign on bonus of 55k and 75k - the 75k signing in bonus was called cheating death sadly both are 45+ in age ... on my station EVERY NPC is above 40 ! only NPC EVER found under 40 was a pirat in one of the encounters but sadly I went for the kill cos I dont think I could have been able to sway that npc my way ... Only problem I have with one NPC is that she has the independent annoying trait and doesnt like to fallow orders , no matter what I set her to do she always stops and writes home or eats till she gets sick ! I reccon she also has glutonous - still 17 skills and traits unknown on her !

But to be honest I do tend to over work my NPC to the bring of getting them uncouncious from over exertion LOL

Ask about skill doesn't mean they tell you their skills, it's idle chatter about job, you can tell by header, in this case it's ADV, it means it's same as BAS, just a chatter, but modifies emotional states more than BAS. To actually ask about their skills, it woud have to be NGN: Ask about skills. That denotes negotiation, something they actually engage in rather than responding with random chatter of their own. You clearly do not understand how chatter works, chatter is 100% about changing your and your interlocutor emotional states. What you say does not matter, only thing that matters is on the bottom of tooltip ie: You: Family goes up by 3, privacy goes down by 2 Them: autonomy goes up by 1, contact goes up by 1. Those will happen if you tell them that thing. Again, what your character actually says is just flavor, it completly doesn't matter. Hiring is something else, I could explain it if someone asks. Most important thing to know about crew is unlike player, when they sleep, they WILL NOT WAKE UP, unless they are FULLY RESTED. That means having them sleep on good bed and during sleep shift is crucial, if they sleep quality sucks, THEY WILL DIE BEFORE THEY WAKE UP. Also, best crew are maintenance that don't display eva penalty - you know they will not get 50% work speed malus when in eva, and they ALWAYS should be in eva, to not die.

I do get how it works, for the most part. But, I don't feel the purpose of the outcomes is easily evident. Why do I want family, or autonomy, or security to go up (or down)? What does that lead to? I have a sense for why those might be important--but I also don't know what's fully implemented, so it's a guess at best. That is a complaint I (and many) have about Ostranauts. With that said, I don't know that I noticed the tags (ADV/BAS/NGN/etc) changing those tags for the same request. I'll watch that more closely. I do know that in .13, when I would ask someone about their skills, I almost always got an appropriate response, be it about EVA work, or whatever. I recall a few different responses, but I was usually looking for the one that lends to EVA work. I don't know that I agree that what is said is of no matter at all, though I'll admit that it's more of a feeling than something I have data on. But, it seems certain comments "unlock" other comments/responses, and passing on using some comments removes them for a while, until they get triggered again. Outstanding info on the crew sleeping situation! Thank you!

@mochad Emotional states seems mostly unimplemented, but can affect ultra fast forward - if you don't have any critical states, your avatar will do repairs or will read skill manual, but for example if it's love life is orange, it will instead daydream about random character. Also, during hiring, certain states of prospective crew constitute win / loss conditions. You were lucky your new subordinate had required states maxed due to alcohol consumption 😆
