if using an arm sling to support the patients arm, would the primary use of this sing be to prevent subluxation or to prevent arm dangling during transfers?

Hi! That would depend on what you're using the sling for and the patient's functional ability/needs. Wearing an arm sling can help prevent subluxation if that's the intended use for it. A sling could potentially prevent a patient's injured or already subluxed arm/shoulder from further injury during transfers as well. If their arm/shoulder is not injured but just weak (let's say from a stroke), then it's good to position their arm to weight bear during transitions to help strengthen and use their weak arm more. Hope that makes sense!
