Never forget that the Gotei is a military organization, and Yamamoto was OLD. He founded the Gotei, the Academy, brought law and order to the Rukongai through pure force and killing, along with his merry band of killers. The dude was a monster even in his old age, and both Aizen and the Quincy had to take measures to seal or steal Ryujinn Jakka so they wouldn't just lose immediately by Yamamoto wiping out all their forces. He wasn't just a figurehead by any means. I highly recommend people look up the lore of Yamamoto. That dude, Yachiru Unohana, and others are in "DO NOT FUCK WITH" territory, and were made to die or be mostly useless most of the time because if they could fight, Ichigo and crew wouldn't be necessary.

No, Unohana renounced her role as Kenpachi when she lost to Zaraki years ago. Buddy just passed out mid fight. Her role then was to strengthen him only. That's why she never fought anymore battles. Yama changed once Ichigo came into the picture. A mere human getting involved in their bs was the last thing he wanted. He felt bad, that's literally why Yama hardly fought the way he could have originally. Yama also carefully understood how dangerous Aizen was too. You right, but aren't as far as why Unohana and Yama didn't go all out and aren't war potential threats. They have Kenny, Ichigo, and Kisuke. Kenny who is stronger than Retsu, and Ichigo and Kisuke, who are combined much more of a formidable opponent than Yama.

It would, but to be fair Yamamoto implies that he improved his bankai since then and even then didn't have to use several techniques against Yhwack. Originally, the cut from the blade would cause an eruption of flames, but he improved it by keeping the flames within and striking with just the thermal force.

I meant it was just minor clashes and burst of spiritual pressure because the old man wasn’t actually trying to kill his “kids” despite his statement and they were certainly not going to try and kill their master and father figure. Both sides were a deterrent to eachother so all the other players could move freely on the battle field.

@@RejectHumanityReturn2Monke 😭 I’ve noticed people just call DB fans slow when your feelings get hurt. Bro Roshi is soloing soul society at this point in the story. Especially if it’s current Roshi. Roshi in og Dragon Ball blew up the moon with mftl speeds. This alone surpasses everything in Bleach that’d we’d seen up to this point. The only argument you’d have is Yamamoto but then to that I’d just bring up current Roshi and now there’s no longer an argument.

In other words, no, this isn't filler. Old Man Yama getting ready to discipline his grandkids is part of canon in the manga. You can find them in chapters 152 to 156, although we never really see the fight there either.
