@@kingortizjr.7580 No, Zouken literally admits he can't break her. After a while his tortures and mind manipulation stop working in Sakura. That's why he gave up on the Fifth War during the first two routes. His plan came to fruition when he realized Shirou was the ONLY weakness in Sakura's mind.

@@kingortizjr.7580 I realize I'm 2 years late to this but I have to say my piece, especially in regards to one of my favorite characters (in Fate). Sakura is mentally strong because she has lived and survived for nearly an entire decade under an abusive household despite the things that had been done to her throughout all those years-- from being raped at a young age and on a nearly daily basis by her (adoptive) older brother, to being implanted with Crest Worms (that can literally kill her if she even dares to try defy Zouken), and god knows what else the Matou family did to her, she has stayed (mentally) strong against all the abused piled up on her. Her personality shattered as a result however. Because in the end, Sakura is still human, and anyone who has been so severely dehumanized, taken advantage of, and undergone such hideous actions inflicted upon them WILL have their spirits and hopes broken even if they remain strong against the abuse. She's "dead on the inside" because it is the only way she can live in this situation she was forced into-- if she tries to rebel even just slightly, Zouken will double his abuse on her and will even flat-out torture her to death. Sakura has conditioned and made herself believe that the pain doesn't matter, SHE doesn't matter, thus she basically took all of her emotions deep into herself and locked it all away. Now Zouken has no other idea of how he can break Sakura; because if she makes it appear like she cares about nothing and/or no one, then he will have no leverage over her in order to use her for his own goals. It's only in the Heaven's Feel route wherein he realizes that there IS a weakness in Sakura's defense; Emiya Shirou. The boy she loves.

Sakura was the one character who made it hard for me to watch an anime. Every bad thing that could happen to her did and it felt like someone was gouging my heart out while simultaneously punching me in the gut watching it. Just glad she got her happy ending. She deserved it and a whole lot more.

Thor's Hammer As far as i know i would say no just because of who she is as a character if she ever became one it's mainly Shinji or Zoken's fault for beating her down so bad not to mention she felt like everyone she knew had abandon her one way or the other and wants her to straight up die. Also if you take notice to anything Sakura Matou is in no matter what she is always have something really mess up happen to her where she can't be happy unless you have someone like Shirou to help you out.

I don't like sakura because she just isnt as cool or interesting as the other 2 female options. Just having a tragic backstory isn't enough to get me to like a character and her character is 70% tragedy 30% MUH SHIROUOOOO. She dosent feel real at all. Like imagine the 3 female romance options ported over to the pokemon universe. Rin and saber would have their own crazy wacky adventures but sakura just isnt developed enough to imagine her doing anything other then sitting still and being sad.

I cant explain how bad I felt when I first readed the HF VN and the horrible past Sakura endured. Now i cant look at the other 2 routes with the same eyes (as great as they are). She is the strongest character in FSN not because of her magecraft or physical strenght but because of her mental strenght. Her will to fight for the small hope she has. That's why she is my favorite. The 3 movies gave her the spotlight and justice she deserved.

They do NOT have to give them away. The only thing they can't do is divide the Family Crest, because that weakens the bloodline. the Magic Crest of a mage allows them instant access to the magic developed by previous heirs of the family and the new heirs are expected to improve upon the Family's magic and add new uses or powers to the Crest. In this way a family gets stronger the longer it has existed (the Tohsaka family is considered weak due to only being around 200 years old while the Emiya family were literally nobodies with less than a hundred years of history, and since Kiritsugu's father was "Sealed" Kiritsugu only had half of the Emiya crest). Now here's the thing, while a family of mages doesn't have to give away their kids, the kid who doesn't becomes the heir will live an inferior life as a mage as they lack the power of the heir of the family. Because both Rin and Sakura were incredibly strong mages and both equally as powerful, a traditional magus would instead look for a magus house that lacked a proper heir (like the Matou, where Kariya abandoned the family and left the house without a proper mage heir) and would give their unchosen child to that family so that they too would be able to live up to their full potential. And that's the crux of the issue. Tokiomi chose to act like a Magus instead of as a parent. He chose the strongest magical house for Sakura expecting Sakura to become a proper magus, instead of keeping her himself at the risk of her being weaker than Rin. And worst, because of his total blind loyalty to both Zouken and the Einzbern family,he gave Zouken his daughter without any issues and without even a single question asked.

@@LeonGun8 you ever think that the Matou family Crest deteriorating symbolizes both their magic capabilities since they don't learn or overcome the obstacles in mage craft they sought to 'cheat' as they are artificially supplanting magic into their bodies by force and so ruin any mage that could be their heir even without taking into account how screwed their actual household as Zoulken soul jumps probably in reguar intervals into his family stealing any growth or expansion as he is literally eating their household like a worm to a Matou mage... Really gotta hand it to you. Went full deep analysis. Way to be! All I can say is the Fate Stay Night Abridge from Mouthwash Productions. Really drives home how stupid Tokiomi is, but yep definitely up there with worst ignorant dads in anime/video games. If only he thought about possibly gauging his daughters first to the point where one could literally be the face of the societal face of their household/businesses to pay for all the expenses. Bloody hell Rin will not be able to afford that estate with no proper training or mentorship from her only living (trained) magus family member in their familial mage craft and magic teachings. All she will be able to do is recreate spells seen in her father's book and notes. No one to actually refine her skills as a mage. Alright I'm stopping here br I rant anymore lol

Sakura will forever be my favorite character since it was her route that pulled me into Fate. Honestly, it’s really my only tie, but I adore her and greatly admire the inner strength she holds. Sure girls like Rin and Saber who are full of action and badassery deserve credit, but I love the more emotionally strong characters than just physically. The horrors that Sakura has endured for years truly make her one of the strongest in the series.

honestly it took me a lot of willpower to stomach watching this video because every time i hear or read her back story i cry at what was down to her and i also shake from rage at Zouken and Shinji did to her especially when i saw it being done to her as a child in Fate/Zero that still gives me nightmares and i'm happy she got her happy end in heavens feel but then i think of what is still happening to her in the other routes and then i get really sad when i see her with that fake smile making it seem like everything was alright and i'm going to say heavens feel is defiantly my favorite route while the other two routes are great this one was the most different when you see Shirou throwing away everything that he was literally to save one person who definitely needed saving was great

I may have said this before, but Heaven's Feel is my favorite of the three routes of Fate Stay Night, primarily because of how much it fleshed out Sakura, Rider, and Illya. To answer your question, its "rather difficult" to defy someone when they have a worm attached to your heart that could kill you for rebelling. That said, Zouken himself stated years of torture and defiling by the worms did not totally break her spirit. She resisted in the only way she could, and when the chance came, I smiled when she crushed him like the worm he was. I very much enjoyed this video and hope to see plenty more in the future.

It challenges Shirou's ideals of being a [Hero of Justice] that he inherited from Kiritsugu, who had the jaded mentality of [the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few]. Shirou wants to save everyone no matter the cost, and no matter what happens to him along the way (see what happened to Archer). But by falling in love with Sakura, learning about the things she's been through and what she could potentially become and do, it all begins to clash with his own beliefs. Would he make the same choice Kiritsugu did? Would he sacrifice the person he loved if it meant that a greater evil would not be unleashed upon the world? In the end, the canonical choice is that [he doesn't]. Shirou does realize that he's essentially betraying his ideals (and by extension, the promise he made to Kiri), but he wants to save the person he loves, which by extension will also end up saving the world. So, in a way, he simultaneously goes against and still follows to some extent his idea of a [Hero of Justice].

Confused... For starters I’ve only watched Zero and Unlimited Blade Works. If i recall correctly Shinji was alive in the end. Pretty sure Rin saved him from Gilgamesh. So when did Sakura kill him??? I can’t figure out the timeline in my head 😂 I’m aware that Fate lore is complicated and confusing, also i don’t care about spoilers for anything because I’ve already watched the two fate shows i wanted to watch, so if someone could help me out that would be great

Fate/Stay Night was originally a visual novel with 3 plot routes. What you saw, Unlimited Blade Works, was just one of the ways that grail war could have gone down. The route that focuses on Sakura is called Heaven's Feel, and that's what this video tells the story of. Think of the plot routes as different possibilities. The 2006 anime by studio DEEN mostly covered Saber's route, which is simply called "Fate" and ufotable is in the process of adapting Heaven's Feel into three movies, two of which are already out. And then getting betrayed by her own servant and kidnapped. ANd in Fate she gets her Archer injured and taken out of commision for a good chunk of the plot making her literal deadweight (since she does dick+1 to the Servants). And she also gets stabbed by Kirei for good measure.

@HaloRocks Oh, yes, so I'm supposed to ignore the fact that the very instand Kirei tells her the truth about Sakura she defaults to "Mage mode"? Before that she was watching over her "as a sister". She had no idea about the experiments or anything relate to the Makiri magecraft. She didn't even know about frigging Shinji until Shirou tells her. She even admits later that she was scared shitless about finding the truth so all she did was watch her from afar. Shirou knew far more about her situation considering he knew she was being suffering physical abuse from Shinji. She didn't even know THAT.

I think Tokiomi should have just let Sakura live a normal life with her family instead of having her adopted into the Matous so he would not have to worry about her future of being a mage or better yet look around the Matous house to see the crest worms and be like “Nope sorry I’m not giving her to you guys” and maybe give her to a family that would treat Sakura with lots of kindness. @@hjt091 I think it had more to do with the fact that the way she likely lost her virginity was due to a worm burrowing into her. THAT is much, much harder to accept. Which is in no way her fault, but that's still hard to get behind in your heroine. If she was just a slut, that's at least something we've seen before. But there aren't too many cases like Sakura's. Rin's father (and technically her mother) was murdered (can't forget they're Sakura's parents, too, although I wonder if she even knows how they died), Saber failed her kingdom, and Sakura... got infested, first by worms, then by Shinji. Sakura deserves better from the writers, as far as I'm concerned. And several rounds of delousing. Shirou, too, to be safe. And no telling what Sakura might have gotten from Shinji.

There is one thing to amend here, and this actually answers your question as to if Sakura transcends the damsel in distress trope. Sakura needs mana as badly as she does not because of being away from Shinji's abuse (because the guy couldn't power a car to drive around a penny, much less fulfill the fuel requirement Sakura has given her mana capacity is equal to Rin's), the real cause for her being burdened is the worms PLUS having Medusa save Shirou those couple of times in the route. Medusa even tells you that when you come back from the forest that Sakura is on death's door from having her use her Noble Phantasm for so long (the distance from the middle of the forest to the Church is 3 hours and she had to have Medusa literally jet the entire gang to the Church quick).

My point was that there is no reason for him to have done that but revenge, its not actually helping her logically, because she is powerful. If she was in need, him "supplying" her doesn't even actually do anything. Using HF as an example of when she is in actual need due to Zouken's bindings AND producing mana for Rider, Shirou, who is an actual magus even if lesser than Sakura and Rin, couldn't provide enough. Its important to note the difference because Kariya even says himself that Sakura can take much more than he ever can because of her potential, Shinji is as far as magus potential is, a muggle, seeing as in UBW route, he became a blob when the core of a lesser grail was put into him, while Sakura has had one since she was 5 years old.The point is that Zouken never planned anything correctly because he didn't really care about anything but accomplishing one thing, and became corrupt because of that one thing.

The text literally says the guy was trying to ruin Shirou, not just 'steal Sakura from him to humiliate him', he wasn't going to stop messing with Shirou just because she endured, that was the point of what she thought internally and why she wanted him to disappear, because he exhausted her goodwill totally. The guy had gone full crazed at that point.Plus your missing the context here, sure, she is the same magic experiment of Zouken whether she is with Shirou or abused by Shinji, but the fact of the matter is certain events happened because of the order of occurrences.

I haven't watched the whole video yet, just clarifying at 0:47 that Angra Mainyu was a chill person who didn't really hate humanity, though he definitely acknowledged his shitty life. It wasn't his resentment that corrupted the grail, it was his conceptualization. While he himself was just a human with no profound hatred to humanity, the grail takes in his concept of what he is "Supposed to be" due to what he was regarded as in his legend, and in turn, corrupts the holy grail for future wars to come. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't change anything, as this is about Sakura and can be seen as a minor distinction from what you stated, but I thought it was important enough to bring up. EDIT: I may be mistaken, but doesn't the aphrodisiac incite the worms to wreck havoc in her body, while also amplifying her impulses, leaving her in a critical state? At 8:38 it sounds like you are saying that Sakura's impulses are what causes her to go into a critical state. Everything else is on-point. Hopefully I'm not nitpicking too much. Nice overview of Sakura.

Indeed. I have a completely separate video for Angra. The part that corrupted the grail was the part that the legends made him out to be and not actually the original guy. As for the aphrodisiac, I simply didn't go into that level of detail for time's sake. That said, an aphrodisiac makes ya horny, and when Sakura gets horny things get dangerous. I feel that i should clarify. It was a long time ago for me. I played the visual novel fan-translation when it first came out, that was the one i played. It was a very hard game. I cant remember exactly where it was said but i do remember going to the wiki sites as well to get a better understanding. I believe the moment was around where sakura first approached shirou for sex. Before than she was suffering from the worms there was scenes where she was in pain. It was the wiki that gave more context at the time, before it was changed, that told me her condition. Before i forget. When zero came out shinji was said to have tried alot of ways to be a great big brother to show up the other magus family. But sakura never reacted until he tried being aggressive. That was what i got at the time.

I sympathize with Kariya who only wanted to give Sakura the future she deserved. And I love Sakura for being strong enough to have survived through literal hell and still be able to put up a smile. People complain about her character saying "oh oh but she like murdered people as the grail me iq 10 me no understand why" It's commendable enough she held on to her own sanity for so long. While most mages worried about having enough magic circuits and to further their knowledge trying to reach a godforsaken place, Sakura, even after going through the deepest levels of suffering, worried about someone else and was courageous enough to leave him, after knowing how much of a threat she'd become without once thinking how much it'd decimate her own being. Sakura's best girl and that's a fact.
