Exactly, 500ft hole, drive 800ft = 300ft from pin but definitely longer than a 499.99ft parked drive. :)

I'm with Luke here. He doesn't explain it well, but both should be used interchangeable. If someone grip locks, and is farthest from the pad but also the basket, they shouldn't win.

Ctp and long drive are absolutely 2 different things. One is how far you are from the basket the other is how far you are from the tee.

kevin is right…you can have the longest drive off the tee, and wind up farther from the basket than a slightly shorter, more accurate shot. source: me, who outdrives all of my friends and is always farther from the basket

A long drive contest is who is furthest from the teepad. A CTP is closest to the pin. Although they are usually the same, they aren't always. Like if a disc went 30 deep of the basket, and someone else's was 10 short, the 30 deep should win the long drive because they are further from the teepad.

I'm surprised it took this long for a long drive/ctp controversy. You can't call a hole a long drive if the winner of said long drive is whoever is closest to the pin. If it was a long drive, you measure back to the tee, not to the basket. Just call them all CTP's if that's how the winner is determined.

Hole 4, Kevin is right, Humphries. You introed the hole as a Long Drive. If you had measured the drives back to the Tee, Luke had the longest drive. But then after everyone threw, you called it a CTP and measured to the Basket and gave it to Kev because his shot was more inline with the basket. Sorry to say but you took $100 from Luke's pocket.

Kevin was right. It just was confusing. Luke simply saying it is "long drive/CTP" with no further explanation is what made it confusing. Luke should have just said before everyone tee'd off "this hole is longest drive that lands nearest to the basket". Would have cleared things up.
