John DeVore and Lulu Bear, a DeVore Fidelity factory cat, talk about the legendary Seiko 6139 series of watches from 1969 (and a couple of 6138 watches as well) talking about many from his vintage mechanical watch collection including the monster 6138-0049 Root Beer Bull Head and the iconic 6139-6002 Pogue.

Been watching your videos forever--love your perspectives on audio, the industry, and society...but somehow just found out you're also a fellow Seiko obsessive. One more reason to tune in... Loved seeing your 6139 collection. After years of hunting, I recently stumbled on a fantastic 1969 "Cevert" model while on a trip and it's just a perfect thing. I also have one of the 1969 "Chono-matic" Calibre 11 watches from Hamilton and that movement's fragility and need for constant maintenance shows just how much better engineered the Seiko remains. I could absolutely understand collecting as many of these as you could find.

I have a honkin Seiko dive watch I bought in St. Thomas in the early 80s, I also bought a Heuer divers I bought about the same time before they were bought by Tag. Still have them and wear them all the time.

I have a Hamilton, it has a day , date and stopwatch function, love it. For me to get excited about a watch, it has to have a day ,date function . Unfortunately they are not so common. I also have a Seiko with the day date function, but doesn’t have the stopwatch, but it does have a white face that sets it apart and the contrast makes it very easy to read.

Thank you for the informal state of the collection review. A breath of fresh air in these "picture perfect" times! 😄 As a fellow Seiko collector, I noticed the 6139 on the blue/black nato, has an aftermarket dial and hands. Just to let you now. Thanks again for the video! 👍🏻👍🏻

I love music. But I am passionate about mechanical watches. I tend to stick to 80s/early 90s. Being born in 1980 I think Is my reason for that time frame.

Magnificent little engines. I have a Tag CW5140 Monaco. My favorite. But my favorite non mechanical is my 1957 Hamilton Ventura electric. I also have my grandfather’s Omega, his retirement watch from Brinks. I have others.

I’m risking sounding like a smug stickler here, but I you described one the the three companies (or groups) developing an automatic chronograph as “TAG Heuer”. I’m sure you just misspoke, but of course the company was just Heuer at the time and wouldn’t be purchased by TAG for another 15 years.

Lovely watches. I like industrial design from the late 60s and the 70s. I've lusted after those Royal Oak watches but I just can't bring myself to spend that on watch.

Do you have a small collection or museum of all the products you have made up to your current models? This was something paul at ps audio has at their factory and was wondering if you had something similar. This was refreshing seeing somebody that is collecting watches that real folks can own. Enjoying your videos! Feel free to share any hobbies or interests! Thanks you!

I just found you on KZbin for your audio videos. On this video you made the comment that the 6139 Pouge was the first automatic chronograph to be in space, Nov. 16, 1973. My question is, wasn't the Omega Speedmaster automatic chronograph moon watch the first in space? Apollo 11 launched into space with the Speedmaster on July 16, 1969.
@DeVOREFIDELITY
@DeVOREFIDELITY Жыл бұрын
The Omega "Moonwatch" did indeed make it to space in 1969, but it is not automatic. The "Pogue" is considered the first automatic winding chronograph in space.

Sir what a lovely collection . I too am a Seiko nut. My channel has many of their movements being serviced on it including the 6139. I leant a few things listening to you so thank you for that. I assume you know how to date Seikos? It’s very easy to do and looking at yours I’d say they are all 70s or 69 earliest. If you don’t let me know and I will tell you.

Nice spotting! I've gone through a relatively mild period of fountain pen fun. I still use them occasionally, but used to use them a great deal--for drawing and writing. I've still still got some fun pens, but none are filled currently. The pen in my pocket is actually a Parker 5th pen, not a fountain pen. It's an interesting system, different from a metal nib or ball. Sort of a hybrid between a fountain pen and a felt-tip.
