Makes me cry watching this knowing he was taken from the world less than a day later😪This great beautiful man (along with sam Cooke) is one of the most emotive passionate raw singers to ever grace this planet...I feel deeply sad his life was cut so short but man oh man what a legacy he left we can only imagine how much more he had to give but I feel so privileged to truly understand what it means to sing with "soul" thanks to Otis and Sam..your music will live on forever thank you for the music ❤️❤️❤️❤️

A lot of great musicians from that era went out that way, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jim Croce come to mind when I think about it 💔 It really is heartbreaking cause so many musicians and singers from back then seemed so authentic, like real people who just happen to be famous, and their music had more soul to it.

@@lucindamiao722 I always used to say the same thing too haha 😂 I've preferred music from late 60's, early 70's, to way back into classical. There are only a few modern bands or songs that give me the same feelings as the old school. I don't think we'll get another era like the 60's/70's, where so many talented musicians influenced so many genres of music, but count your blessings that you have the ear to listen to and appreciate music like this 😌

@@bobloblawlablabla True I'm thankful I have taste lol but id give anything to be born in the 50s or 60s to be right in the centre of all the greats..a little not very interesting titbit I went to the same infant school as Ringo Starr (st Silas in toxteth Liverpool)and same comprehensive as John Lennon(calderstones formerly known as quarry bank)... Yes you guessed right that's where they got the inspiration for their original band name the quarry men:) just few decades too late damn it🤣🤣🤣

Being the baby in a family of 6 kids w/ the majority of my siblings being old enough to be my parents, I was exposed all day every day to SO much music; I lived in a house chock full of teenagers w/ their friends migrating in & out constantly. When I was 5 years old, this man's voice had me mesmerized...i'd fall asleep listening to him. Between Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave, & SO many others, he & Sam were my absolute favorites (I cried like I'd known them both when my Mom explained why I'd never see them on TV like I'd seen The Supremes on Ed Sullivan, or ever get to meet them one day. Somehow it felt mean & wrong, like being incredibly cheated out of enjoying what brought me so much peace & joy. Such deprivations to the world of the gifts & treasures they embodied😢.

James Brown warned him because of the bad weather, but Otis was too loyal to his fans in Wisconsin. That loyalty sadly resulted in his tragic death in a plane crash. James told him "That plane is not big enough to be doing what you’re doing. It can’t carry all those people and all that equipment. You shouldn’t be messing around with it like that." Otis said "Aw, it’s all right Bossman. We’ve had a few problems, but it’s doing okay." James later went on to say in his memoirs that "Somebody was fooling Otis… That plane was an old plane, with a bad battery and a lot of service problems, and it had no business flying in that kind of weather."

From what I knew about the plane crash, Ben Cauley the drummer in the band, was the only survivor of the plane crash that killed Otis Redding. He was interviewed on the TV show Inside Edition and talked about the crash many years ago. After the plane crashed Ben said he heard some band members screaming for help while they were in the water He was rescued while the other band members drowned. The body of Otis Redding was recovered a few days later.

Thanks for the correction. I thought Ben was the drummer in the band for whatever reason Instead of the trumpet player. @@barrywilliamsjr5390 I think I read somewhere that Cauley said he didn't know how to swim and that he was saved just as he was about to go under. There is a very grim photo of Redding out there, still strapped into his seat, as the Dane County coroner, Clyde 'Bud' Chamberlain, looks sadly at the camera. Twenty years later, Chamberlain was murdered by a young man who went into the downtown courthouse and shot several people before being detained and sent to prison.

In the Inside Edition story where Cauley was interviewed there was a black and white photo of Otis Redding being brought out of the water a few days after the crash by 2 divers who had him standing straight up and were on opposite sides of him holding on to his arms and leading him ashore.
@TheSpunkyKitty
@TheSpunkyKitty 18 сағат бұрын
I see the picture you're talking about...I think it's a bit misleading in its presentation as he was still strapped into the seat. There was also footage - probably not shown on TV then - of Redding's body being removed from Lake Monona. Whatever the details, it's still incredibly sad. And more bizarre yet that the coroner who dealt with the case also became a victim of tragedy. The date of the Redding crash was December 10 meaning that the water was well-below freezing even if the lake itself wasn't frozen over. I don't think they had much of a chance, so it's amazing that anyone managed to survive.

God, he was the absolute best. Tragic what happened to him and his bandmates. Incredible performer. What a voice! I read that Rod Stewart had said seeing Otis Redding perform live brought tears to his eyes. He was that great.

Absolutamente fabuloso ! 🎼❤️

Wow.....I was in the 7th grade and remember this like it was yesterday. Watching this make me sad that he left us at such an early age but, I'm overjoyed that I witnessed such a phenomenal talent in my lifetime.....I'm now retired and spend most of my time sitting on the dock of a bay.......yeah........imagine that.

Just hours after this performance, Otis, Jimmie King (guitar), Ronnie Caldwell (organ), Phalon Jones (saxophone), and Carl Cunningham (drums) would all be dead. The bass player was the only one not on that plane. The trumpet player was the only survivor of the crash.

You are correct. Trumpeter Ben Cauley survived the crash, but he died in 2015. Don't know if the bass player is still alive.
