Love Otis Redding nicknamed the "King of Soul". Sadly he died in 1967 in a plane crash at only the age of 26. But he left us some beautiful music. "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay" is one of my all time favorite songs. Other hits he had were "These Arms Of Mine", "Respect", "I've Been Loving You Too Long" etc.

Otis recorded this song at the Stax Records studio in Memphis, TN. Booker T. & the MGs were his backing band. Actually, Booker T and the boys were the Stax House Band, and backed up almost every performer who recorded with Stax in that era.

This is a great rendition of this song. So soulful. It does remind me of Jon Cryer's little lip-sync homage to that song in "Sixteen Candles". Maybe doesn't do Otis Redding justice but that movie did introduce the song to lots of young people.

An amazing song sung by a legend. Did you know that the Bee Gees wrote " To Love Somebody" for Otis Redding but he died before he could record it, so they recorded it themselves and it became one of their early hits.

Otis Redding was part of the great music that was pushing into new territory. It is worth noting that recorded songs were under 2 minutes back in the mid-60s to fit the radio format so, unless you listen to a live version, you are going to get what the label wanted to release and miss out on most of the personality the artist wanted in the song.

Guys, take a listen to a soulful and funky song by Otis called "Down In The Valley"...something to get your groove on! 😎
@user-lq4qe7pj9s7 ай бұрын
If the guys go back to Otis Redding, which they hopefully will at some point, the song "Hard to Handle" is terribly underrated and a great juxtaposition to songs like "Try A Little Tenderness" and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." I don't want to give anything away to the guys, but Ryan may very well really like the arrangement of "Hard to Handle." There is also a very respectable version (not easy to find with covers) by the band The Black Crowes from 1990, which keeps the soul/R&B vocals but concentrates more on a rock musical arrangement.

@@ViewsFromThe502 Yes, I'm aware that this response is 6 months later, but correction. You misunderstood both my points. Middle guy was criticizing the arrangement, hence, I commented, "I don't think Redding needed lessons from him." I never said he critcized his vocals. Re-watch the video.
