This was a very big song back in the day. I was in college when it came out and it stood out, even though there was a ton of great music, across genres, in 1987. It's a testament to their talent that they were still making hits in the late 80s, 20 years into their career. My favorite song of theirs is 'And the Beat Goes On' from 1979. It's sooooo good. I think you guys would love it. Great reaction as usual!

There was an earlier song also titled "Rock Steady" written and performed by Aretha Franklin, released as a single in October 1971. The song was on her eighteenth album, Young, Gifted and Black (1972). The single reached the #9 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It also peaked at #2 on the Best Selling Soul Singles chart.

The Mighty Whispers are an Old School group from the 60s, 70s and early 80s. This song introduced them to a new audience and put them back on the charts. The Rock was out in the late 70s and they semi brought it back with this song. The twins are the only ones doing it correctly. ✨️😊💛

Fun R&B song by the Whispers! Other killer R&B artists and songs you should check out are "Fantastic Voyage" by Lakeside from 1980 (an amazing mix of funk, R&B and a little bit of early-days partying rap ... listen to the 6-minute album version ... everyone used to rush the dance floor when it started to play) ... and ""Disco Inferno" by The Trampps from 1977, from the soundtrack to "Saturday Night Fever" (watch the music video of the band singing and dancing and playing their instruments in their stylin' disco-era orange suits!) ... and "Fantasy" by Earth Wind and Fire from 1978 (awesome groove, harmonies, and instruments).

Another dance favorite of mine, from the same era, is Treat Her Like a Lady, by The Temptations. Another high-energy video, performed live at The Apollo (look for the one where they're wearing the sparkly green suits).

This song was a monster hit for The Whispers. What I loved about this group, was the total anomaly of them. They excelled at ballads...AND bangers at the same time, leaving artists generations younger in the dust chartwise. I so loved that, I love them....and The Whispers stay in rotation in multiple playlists of mine. During the year, and ESPECIALLY at Christmastime. If you know, you KNOW....

I have a song suggestion that I would bet you've never heard, IN SPITE of the fact that is considered to be one of the most important and influential songs of all time. It's "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer. It came out in 1977 and was one of the first popular songs created with only synthesizers. It is a cornerstone of EDM, new wave, techno and house music. There would have never been New Wave music without this song. There's a story about David Bowie working on his Berlin Trilogy of albums when his producer, Brian Eno, told him, after hearing the song, "I have heard the sound of the future. This is it. Look no further. This single is going to change the sound of club music for the next fifteen years."

This was a big tune for the group. The song was produced by heavyweights Babyface and L.A. Reid. #1 on the R&B chart and #7 on the Hot 100. Its great but I still prefer that late 70's early 80's sound when SOLAR was so dominant. My recommendation would be to check out that era of Whispers tracks such as "This Kind of Lovin", "I Can Make It Better" and "Keep on Lovin Me". One of the greatest R&B/Soul groups in my opinion.

I’m gonna keep telling you guys, you’ve gotta steer back over to Kenny Loggins, for one of his all-time BEST tracks! It’s an album cut from his 1985 Vox Humana album titled “Love Will Follow”. Seven minutes of pure bliss, AND..a brilliant SAX accompaniment by the late, great David Sanborn. You guys are guaranteed to turn on the FIRE for this one! 🔥🔥🔥
@gabrielmcdonnell86995 ай бұрын
I hope they do LWF as well AND that Ty is with them. It’s a brilliantly produced song from top to bottom. They’ll be shocked at how soulful Kenny is on this song (that falsetto!). And, yup, David Sanborn RIP. His sax solo and Nathan East’s bass beautifully carry the tune. Also, the live version with Shanice is fantastic but I prefer the original bc it further demonstrates Kenny’s blue-eyed soul prowess.✌🏽
