Agreed. It is VERY deep and yet stated so simply. I have shared a version of that same thought over the years but could never voice it as well. "I feel sorry for Willie". Holy Smokes! That goes beyond the statement. No wonder these guys are songwriters.

Willie was the subject of a sort of dark joke my grand dad told. Sitting around a fire he would say in a serious tone "Did you hear Willie Nelson died?" The new to the group would start reacting and then he hits them with "Yup, he was playing On the road again".

I love Jesse. Raisin Cain, Tall Texas Tales. My brother moved to Houston around 1996 and I took trips down there and was baptized in Texas music...live and thru Cd's that he'd send me. I've seen Jesse live at The Continental and other places. A guy before the show asked me if I had a Sharpie. I said "what for?", and he said to sign his Jesse CD. I had my dark hair all slicked up and he thought I was Jesse, LOL. Texas music is as important as any out there. They are almost a self-sustaining music scene. Jesse, Horseshoe, Derailers, Hollisters....not to mention all the 70's stuff. Great interview Otis, good choice. Jesse tunes are staples in my repertoire when I do acoustic jams.

There might have been only one Baldwin C1 amp there, but Willie has multiple, maybe even numerous amps. Maybe kept for robbing parts over the decades? Willie’s nephew told me that when I asked him last. I’ve had a C1 for twenty years, great acoustic guitar rendering through these things, just wish I had a prismatone pickup to go with it.

Damn this hits so close to home, y’all. It really does. I do feel the same about Willie’s buddies all passing on. Ray, Merle, Billy Walker, Waylon Johnny and now Kris and on and on. I wish I’d been on that cruise too bad Billy Joe went back to Texas . And As for Eddy… he was one of my all time guitar heroes.. his approach just floored me. I saw him live maybe 3-4 times. It’s funny Jesse mentioned Dick Degeurin, he’s my friend’s stepfather.
