OTO BREDA 5 inch (127mm) firing

The 4 guns used on the Dutch frigates were all bought from Canada after being used on the Iroquois Destroyers, to save space for new VLS tubes they replaced the 127 MM with a 76 MM OTO Breda! I served on the HMCS Huron from 82-84 and remembered these monsters! hope they are serving the dutch well.

TheGamingCanadian TGC Thanks for your comment! Yeah I know we bought them second hand. After Canada sold them they stood several years in Italy collecting dust and rust. The Dutch navy aquired them as they were cheap to buy. Dutch navy was planning on installing rail guns later on but those plans are given up now. I operated this gun several times!

recent plans are to put the guns out of commission and get new guns from OTO BREDA, new 127MM. these plans were put on hold due to some issues with money or something

Just to put into perspective, the Abrams Tank shoots a smaller round.

I believe that 5" or 127mm gun is rated up to 40 rounds per minute.

This is just fire rate 20 (20 rpm) it can actually fire 40+ rpm :)

Yep, that's one major advantage of the Oto Melara 127mm over the American equivalent.
