sorry bad phone camera its not as subtle as claimed, also the volume when A/B is a bit off, but you can see what it does to dynamics.

I appreciated the restraint you exercised, trying to *warm* with subtlety, rather than dumping on OTT distortion. Surprisingly rare for boum demos/tutorials.

Ps: your video is really good. You do you and enjoy music you enjoy. I like lots of gnarly distorted sounds. You enjoy your crisp mellow grooves. We both can be happy life's good😊

Finally, a proper demo, I have the Boum setup on a master bus always, it's indespensible used this way, perfect warming/ saturation unit.

Have you ever compared it to analog heat for this purpose?
@the_astro_garden3 жыл бұрын
@@benmironmd yes, I have both, Heat gives you more options but they both sound good.

@@benmironmd If you can spend the extra I'd go the Heat based on the extra control and fine tuning. Both sound amazing but the Boum is more fun to use, especially live and especially because of the compressor built in.

@@the_astro_garden Heat doesn’t have a compressor? Not sure what you mean “built-in” - the single knob for it?

reviewing the OTO BOUM.... "i hate distortion".

Thanks for the video. Very useful. Directly interesting and not too much talking in order to make it longer etc. Much enjoyed. I liked the „mastered“ version more in every aspect except for the „snappy“ sound which i would lower in the mix cause in the processed version i find it too much in your face while in the unprocessed version it sounded more soft and smooth

thanks for the restraint

That was very useful, thanks! There are too little demos on this machine, which makes it hard to decide whether it's worth the money... If you ever find the time to shoot some more examples, that would be great :-)

Yeah @jeandado could stand to make a few more, especially since there’s a dearth of Boum demos on YT

Not to mention KZbin probably doesn't do it justice. Probably sounds better in person.

I tried the OTO BOUM at a friend's studio and man it was such a confusing weird box to use! So I went Elektron Heat and way happier. Lack of information and confusing icons and button combos are too much for me.
@jeandado10 ай бұрын
there are button combos? as far as I know there is second functionality on any button, and no combos. didnt know about the elektron heat though!

I tried this technique on final mix. It sounds good to the ear whilst recording but on playback in logic Pro has a constant awful hiss. Do you get hiss too? Seems that if this is the case it would defeat the point of using it as compressor on your tracks.

I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense to replace the valve dbx 386 with this unit for my guitar with digital system & a lot of effects..I like the Dbx make warmer my sound but still needs to be warmed up, compacted and also with digital systems(Mod Dwarf)I have great effects but it has too many resonances on the highs and needs more dynamics so on paper it seems ideal. Mybe is perfect combine it with the dbx but I must sell the Dbx if I want the Boum :(. Last question : Can you create & save your preset ? Thank you ! Ps Important, I don't use Microphone..

Hey, nice demo! Question: Can I use the Oto Boum to sidechain compress all my instruments to the kick drum while still using the unit as a final saturation/compression unit for all incoming signals (drums + other instruments)?
@SE-zn2xe4 жыл бұрын
Sorry no the kick will also be sidechained by itself. It does not pass through the side chain signal.
@tendingtropic77783 жыл бұрын
@@SE-zn2xe it should be possible, as long as you have the drum signal separately
