About Phoenix Guard, in the previous book I always felt that they required horde formation to get the damage they needed. With the new Martial Prowess rule they always strike in 3 ranks so that will greatly benefit them. You can field them 6-7 wide instead of 10 and still get those 3 ranks or still go with a horde formation with 40 Phoenix Guards for a crazy amount of attacks. 3/4 ranks, str 4 WITH rerolls. And as you said, wildform to push them over the edge into crazy land.

Hey Malorian, first off I wanna thank you for your informative and versatile channel - I started out as a hobbyist, but thanks to you and ob360 I'm also getting a good in into the game itself. There 1 area that could do with some improvement tho: the pronounciation of names. If you don't bother trying, no biggie - but if you wanna elevate that area up to par with the rest, grab TheReturnOfTheKing & flick thru the appendix ...if the scientist in you was merely looking 4 rules - there u have em :)

Worth to note is that BOTWD also gives a 2+ ward save against miscast damage since miscast damage was FAQd to be considered a magical attack. ^^ I'm looking forward to playing with the Loremaster. Spamming them lore attributes ftw! :D

One correction: Flamespyre Phoenix's 'wake of fire' rule is D6 S4 hits + D3 hits per rank past the first. I see lots of potential in them, esp. versus low-model-cost armies like Skaven, VC, Empire, etc., AND some really brutal synergies when coupled with High Magic. Not saying they are better than the Frosthearts, but seem pretty viable to me...

As great as the High Magic Lore is, do you think it is better than the Banner of Sorcery buffed use of Beasts or Shadow where spells were CHOSEN via seerstaff magic item and applied to special elite infantry who rerolled their attacks?? I think I prefer turning my Archmage into a mountain chimera than having a 3+ward in the frontline...

You glossed over the basic lords and heroes but it is worth noting that they all received pretty good points reductions and especially good is that nobles can now ride the nice buffed and cheaper griffon.

I don't have the book so forgive for the margin for error but doesn't that one only do damage on all models at the end every consecutive magic phase or something? Of course it's not bad to make him waste power dice I suppose. Still I would take the large template S4 over alot of similiar spells :)

In 6/7th edition I played my wood elves with mass flying and fast calv, basically untouchable, and you're right opponents hate it. In 8th edition, where the game is mostly blocks of infantry slugging it out in the center, this "new" old style will be frustrating, but good for breathing life into this stale meta.

The tempest is pretty fantastic imo compared to alot of similiar spells from the rulebook. S4 using the large template and only scatters D6

So, basically HE can have multiple units of 3+ ward saves, yet people complained and thought hte WOC chosenstar was "broken". So, they take the 3+ ward away from WOC units and give it to HE. Seems like WOC got the shaft.

So high elves can rip all the buffs off Ogres, destroy the hellheart before it can be used, and get a flying hellpit 2.0 that can be ridden by a character who can also come back....

So... Phoenix guard "weren't seen... ...didn't have the damage output" but now that they have the possibility of a 3+ ward they're all of a sudden drastically better? They still have a str 4 weapon do they not? You used to be able to buff them with Wildform couldn't you? Or were High elf mages not able to take beasts before? Did I miss something?

I am waiting for my HE-book. Not that HE needed boosts, they are fine already. Hopefully the weak armies get teh help in the future. Sounds good though that they keep the HE-identity with magic and elite units (not hoards).

I played my daemons against the new high elf book last night. Big unit if SM with teclis in it destroyed my nurgle unit with herald in two turns. However, it took two turns to get to them, and were then out of position for anything else. Still IMO way OP, but can be managed. End if day we tied.

It sounds like they are really encouraging death stars among High Elves with the stacking ward saves and some of the magic (i.e. ethereal movement spell) and certain magic items. I'm not sure that I like that aspect of the new book.

Pretty sure I'd just flat out refuse to play against HIgh Elves if I was gaming for fun, and just hand my oppoenent the win in a tourny against my Deamons and not bother playing. Put that Sun gem on the death phoenix fly over. Lots and lots of dead stuff on the ground. If a character is in a challenge with someone with the World Dragon Banner, does he still get the Ward?

S3 T3 could be considered a downside coupled with average armour saves, not all units will have a Mage only a unit with a level 4 stands a chance of getting the 3+ ward, the lore attribute is vulnerable to successful dispeling, oh you dispelled me, that's +1 I won't be adding.

Wow... I feel kind of sad for my Wood Elves now :( Their whole guerilla warfare and S4 shooting thing isn't really unique anymore... Same as units of chariots, I loved that that was a Tomb Kings thing, but that's not so bad. I really hope they don't forget about the Wood Elves though.

You do realise aside from a banner that's a tad bit broken if you're playing daemons this is probably the most balanced Ward book. Daemons isn't that much different from the 40k version which was authored by Phil Kelly. But hey feel free to complain.

Long time HE player who actuallly prefers the old book. Only because they are becoming less of a Glass Cannon with the change of direction regarding wards at teh expense of SoA rerolls. Less infantry and more monsters/ cavalry/ chariots - completely different looking HE forces.

Vampire counts I can give you ;) luckily I don't know anyone who plays them regularly! Empire, maybe, but you still need a bajillion models to be able to address different opponents. But not Warriors of Chaos. They got hit by a massive nerfhammer. They can't feasibly field hordes anymore, and their best magic lore (tzeentch) is next to useless. I would put them on the same tier as O & G and Tomb Kings.

As a daemons player I agree that BotWD is mostly just another one of those things and hopefully we wont see it exclusively in PG deathstars. But saying things like "you've had your time in the sun" and "nobody plays daemons anyways" those arent really arguments, you can do better.

So what I plan on doing is impact hitting you to death .banner useless , Chaos warriors have enough impact hits to crush a unit quick impact hits from Ogres, Minotaurs,Tomb king chariot units,Gore beast chariots, warphinx doesnt care still need sixes to hurt it. every other armybook had pluses and minuses that made a balance book warrior your troops are good but they cost alot, Ogres you hit hard but you cost alot and you're I 2 , tombkings you get power dice out the wazoo but you lore ain that good. vampires your lord is a beast but your troops sucks. High elves got nothing but bonuses with little to no down side.
