Thanks for the counter clockwise tip, that takes out any confusion on the orientation of the supply spool. Enjoyed the video!!

how can it come off any other way

I think the reason I love this video the most is he tells you the correct direction the line should come off the spool at least for the first spool…. Then proceeds to say f’it and reels while to spool flys around the garage 😂

To keep your spool from jumping and flipping around, and put a bit of tension on the line for a good firm wrap on the reel, try this: Lay your spool on the floor next to a fairly heavy book. Close the book on the line and then reel it in. Works for me.

I put my line spool in a vice with a nail. The nail head keeps it on the nail. It spins freely with no problem and keeps the spool from jumping all over the place.

Hey Ott I actually use some sort of a can that has something in it and you put the can on top of the line spool and make the bottom of the can over hang the notch on the line spool and the line doesn't snag !! It works great !!

Great info Ott. Thx.

After I tape the spool I tape that little notch. I follow the round contour first then flip the outside down and push the tape edges down. The line doesn’t get caught on it.

Ott, you did a video on 4 baitcaster rods, how about one on spinning rods! Thanks for the videos, it really helps us commando non pro's! How are you feeling, hope you and your family are all healthy and happy.

Thanks for the tip. I fish salt water an use no backing. Tarpon will go 200 yards in the blink of an eye and thats just another fail point to be honest. No matter what knot ya use. I also fish grouper and learned that 100 pound mono is a minimum with double fg knots. Do ya ever fish the big water? Would love to see how ya handle a wahoo or tarpon. Something that might yank ya off the boat.

Yes don’t want to use backing then. Our little fish won’t run very far lol. I don’t fish big water much.
@danhaire95674 жыл бұрын
Take a small piece of 2 x 4 put a large nail in it. That will allow you to unspool your new line without chasing the spool.
@danhaire95674 жыл бұрын
Obviously you put the nail thru spool of line .

What is the purpose of the little notch on top of the spool?? It is on almost every manufacture spools it has to be there for a reason..
@icatchtinyfish11124 жыл бұрын
its to hold your line when your done to store it and it won't unravel.
@phillipthure3884 жыл бұрын
@@icatchtinyfish1112 not the notch I'm talking about. It has no spot to wedge your line in. It's a square cut out on top of the spool....

You ever throw your spool of line In the water? I saw someone do that and it works great!

I’ve heard of that but don’t want to get my spool wet. I don’t want the wet line sitting on there.

@@OttDeFoeFishing Me too I always keep my fish line dry, I never cast anything into the water with it but I do like getting it out of the locker and waving it around in the air on a sunny day admiring it’s dryness,!

Hey Ott, Daniel Hill here... I'm about to spool up a new spin rod. I live in Chattanooga and mostly fish on Chickamauga. I have typically used green monofilament. Would you recommend switching to a yellow braid? I think it will be better because there is no memory. But I've never used braid before.
@OttDeFoeFishing4 жыл бұрын
For sure! That’s all I use is yellow braid. The Bass Pro hyper braid in 10lb is all you need!

So the ccw or the cw rotation makes No difference. Here's the poor man's trick ; Put your braid backer on half way up . Tie on your mono or floro and spool up about 90 percent to max . Next simply walk your line out to the braid , drop it and reel it back in between your two fingers lettin it uncoil all by itself ! Done ✅

I'm probably going to sound like a smart a$$ know-it-all, but never spool your line off the end of the filler spool. I know you are trying to eliminate twists by matching one direction off the face of the filler spool opposite with the spool on the reel. What happens when you get your first line break??? Don't your line untwist and then get twisted onto the spool when you reel it back in??? I have an electric line spooler that I can remove the spool from the reel and fill the spool with zero twists. The only thing is, it doesn't last. Every time you take the lure out of the water after a cast, a couple twists come out. Before long, the first 100' off your reel gets wound back on twisted. Happens all-at-once after your first line-break. Please take my advice and let your spinning reel be a spinning reel and spool it as you would a level wind reel...with a rotating filler spool. Fill all your reels the same...pencil through filler spool with adequate tension. Respectfully yours...FL Tabdigger...Tight Lines!!!
