Wonderful Suite: the combination of flute or oboe and strings is often a "winning" instrumental combination. Like Max said, that first movement is very elegant a la Tchaikovsky. The flute contrasts nicely, throughout the Suite, with the homogeneity of the strings.

Lovely, elegant music in a fine performance. The "Badinage" theme sounds very Tchaikovskian to me but the overall effect of strings and flute together, especially in the "Lento-Furlana" and the marvellous "Vivacissimo", is vaguely Gallic. Whatever echoes there are make no difference to the enjoyment of the music....
