Did you hear about the BNSF derailment in Ottumwa a few weeks ago? The Calfornia Zephyrs had to be rerouted onto the Clinton Sub, which actually runs right by my house. So I thought it was pretty cool that I got to see such a rare event.

Yes, in fact I was on the eastbound California Zephyr that morning. We got back to Ottumwa just four hours before the derailment occurred. My train was the only Zephyr that week that ran pretty much on time out and back, since the derailment a few days earlier in Aurora delayed things for those trains.

Also, I have recently watched your Southwest Chief video. What is your opinion on the Raton Sub? I think it should be preserved since it is basically one of a kind these days.

I agree. Colorado and New Mexico I believe have plans to put funding in place to preserve the line, along with matching funding from Amtrak.

About 40 trains on BNSF per day, with somewhere around 4 or 5 trains on the CP.
