The saddest thing about Emma/Henry is that she did abandon him, because she thought she couldn't handle it because of her own screwed childhood. She thought she didn't know how to be Mother. She honestly believed she could not be a mother. And one thing a lot of people seem to forget is that she still would have been in jail with Henry. She would have raised him in jail and because of that she knew she shouldn't be raising him.
