Raaid got to witness the birthing process of Mokokchung Indian oud. Here we discuss not only what he witnessed during the distillation and his impressions on the raw wood, but most importantly how all of that impacted his understanding of Agar Aura distillation as a whole.

For Raaid to be part of the first pour of the supreme oil must have been an experience of a lifetime and top of that getting to experience the wood live with the Maestro himself!!

Sidi Koool is that you? Yes it most certainly was one of the most wonderful experiences I've had. I am still not fully over it truth be told...there was something very sacred about distillation that has left a mark in me. It was a true contemplative experience of the great gifts of God. The only thing that would have made things better was if folks such as yourself could have been there!

Sidi Raaid, Yes its me! I just can't get over you being there for that first initial drop. To hear your intake whilst sitting with Taha is truly eye opening! Thank you very much for your kind gesture! It truly would have been a experience of a lifetime for me as well to come and learn something from senior people like yourself, who have understood Oud from the core!

great video.. in Assam India we too never mix the agarwood oil from different days.. the 1st two days and the 2nd 5 days and rest are separated every time.. great to watch your videos.

Ah yes, quite right. That’s standard practice, and I think most customers aren’t aware that what they are smelling is a fractionated oil. Because standard practice for Indian oil is, as you said, fractioning. It’s tricky getting the base notes to smell beautiful, but that’s always my aim. Capturing all the drops, from first to last, and combining them. After all, THAT is the complete picture. 😁 I am not aware of anyone else who distills Indian oud and combines all the fractions. Typically, the base note fractions are missing.

Agar Aura :) thanks for the reply. As you distill the highest quality wood i think you do not have to worry about the increasing wax content.. but here combining all the fractions is considered as depresition of value as the wax content increases. I wonder sometimes can this wax be removed by distilling the last fraction again.. haha i dont know😁.. and also distilling only for the wax from the bark of the wood is done here..

Yep, I'm aware of that hehe... but ask the bozorg hazrat, how the oils were made one century ago. Very different from present-day method. I prefer the old style. Higher quality material, and collecting all the fractions. But for standard grade, you are correct, it would result in boya 'jelly'/wax content.

Agar Aura Agar Aura ya.. you are absolutely correct.. in the olden days they used copper or bronze distilleries.. and used only the finissing grade chips.. and i remember seeing huge hammers to grind the chips and the wood totally submerged in water during distillation.

Assalamualikum brother Taha. Have been watching a lot of your videos lately. I am 19 and would like to start my journey in distillation, so i have decided to get a distillation unit soon. I would love to start with flowers and other materials which are widely available in our country, yet noody has ever tried them. What type of unit would you advise me to get to learn professionally, i hardly even know their names. Thanks.

Great discussion my question is as you show top,heart, notes right So if that all oil extract from one wood why there is base note or heart note, Or that note you mean some thing else If one thing should smell till end same Thanks
@AgarAura

that's the beauty of oud... it naturally contains top AND heart AND base. There are compounds of different molecular density in the wood. The most top-noted compounds come out first, and the heaviest come out last. And so, I design each stage according to the fraction currently being extracted.

Agar Aura great, mean smell remain same. just difference between heavier and light notes I was thinking if smell get change that wasn't original oud you make me correct Cheers

Since the aroma changes when you heat a wood chip, as it progresses... I want to capture that same change (beginning of heating to middle stage to end stage). THAT's what I call accurately preserved oud oil. 😊
