thank you for this video. I have been playing guitar for many years, but have recently developed a bone spur by the knuckle of my thumb. This has made picking with a normal guitar pick very painful. To see an alternate type of pick that spreads the pressure throughout the hand is very amazing for me

I find that a baglama/saz pick works quite well. It is basically a risha downsized to a guitar pick, so it sounds similar to a risha but is played like a guitar pick.

Great vid bravo. However the darbouka is irritating, especially that it is stronger than the oud sound and no difference can be heard between different risha grips...

Would you say a D G C f a d tuning would be viable for a Turkish oud? What would you recommend for a Turkish oud?

What is risha? I haven't heard before. We tell tezene or mızrap in Turkey.

Can you use guitar picks
@OudforGuitarists

VimtoStealer sure, but if you don't hold the pick like a risha your tone will suck.

VimtoStealer well what I mean is that you can't hold your wrist the same way you hold your wrist when you play guitar.

Well, first they are hard to find . Non existent on the Turkish market, supposedly an oud country . nobody even knows.... I am not a pro , just a serious music lover . I got mine from local zoo. Make sure to leave in olive oil for six months. Because I only use downstrokes I didnt cut ın half. The difference in tone character is amazing. clearer deeper more open at the same time And the volume is much higher. Old recordings of Kadri Sencalar and udi Hrant (they used upstrokes too... :))) i

@@murattaner7384 have you used cow horn or other material? If so how do they compare to quill?

I have some water buffalo guitar picks.Very hard almost like polished stone ...Sounds colder than tortoise shell .Quill has a unique clarity in sound , is louder not in a disturbing way and maybe because its flexible but strong has a different (superior?) feel on the hand and thus inspires and allows you to try what you never tried before. One other thing , I was given many different bird feathers by the zoo to try.From owl to ostrich...None other than eagle works..Dont forget to leave it in olive oil for 6 months. Otherwise they break immideately :))
