I came here because I play guitar and I developed trigger finger on my right thumb. Thankfully I remembered about these long plectrums, all because years ago I had a pleasant hour hanging out with an very gregarious and enthusiastic oud player years ago. He was in the seating area of a random american suburban strip mall coffee place and got the attention of a couple of us random guitar players who were passing by. We all hung out, sang songs to each other, and talked instrument history. He called the oud the 'grandmother of the guitar' which was a lovely image (to go with the lovely lovely music you guys all play on it!)

kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3ilZGiHf7qisKc Does this guy make sense? I am a beginner, therefore not sure what to think. He claims so many things about Fa-Fa tuning. He says you get better range, and it better suits the human voice, etc. What do you think? (From around 3:10 in video)

Salam Navid! That was wonderful. I have a question regarding Iraqi tuning. I recently ordered Iraqi F-F strings for my standard Arabic oud. I play traditional Azerbaijani music with oud, which requires the DEBEAD tuning. However, my standard Arabic oud doesn’t handle this tuning well, so I decided to try Iraqi strings to achieve the desired tuning. Do you think this approach is feasible? Will the strings become too loose in this setup? I would be so happy to see your answer! Bests

Amazing ! I am trying to learn this piece, do you know where I could find just the rythm to practice ?
@OudforGuitarists29 күн бұрын
The rhythm of the slow part is called ciftetelli so you can search that term and find a loop on KZbin. The fast part is a mix of foxtrot and malfuf.
@Yan991329 күн бұрын
@@OudforGuitarists Thank you for answering. Is it just the first measure of ciftetelli, because I don't hear the DUM DUM TAK of the second measure ?
@OudforGuitarists29 күн бұрын
@Yan9913 sorry you're right it might be a different rhythm.
@OudforGuitarists26 күн бұрын
@@Yan9913 I asked Ryo to respond to you because the rhythm ls are actually completely different than what I originally thought 🤣. Wasn't paying too close attention 🤣

I have both. In my opinion the Arabic Oud has a much deeper sound with more bass and the Turkish Oud has much more brighter with a slightly nasal sound. Both are great depending on which sound you prefer. I think this is due to construction differences ( bracing ect…) and bowl size. I do agree, your Turkish Oud sounds more like an Arabic Oud. I think due to quality and the cedar soundboard maybe.
@OudforGuitarists29 күн бұрын
Good for you. It's good to have both. It's like having a stratocaster and a telecaster.
