I've searched and searched; no one else comes near to his pedigree of writing, imagination and just sheer, unadulterated adult fun.

@@michaelkennedy8270 absolutely. can you imagine when they start filming the Culture Series? Apparently Amazon Prime is doing a "Consider Phlebas" in a series. We will see if it translates into a greater audience. Just finished 'Use of Weapons'. Next up "State of the Art"

@@lorenzo6mm Amazon Prime have been talking about Consider Phlebas for some time. My hopes for that project are somewhat waning. If I win the Euromillions that is where the money is going. Use of weapons is as beautiful as it is craftily nasty; an extraordinary book. My personal favourite is Excession, because it is so personal in it's relationships and so profound in it's scope and ultimately amounts to the same thing. Look up the You Tube channel Media Death Cult. The guy that runs it, Moid, is doing what is essentially a Culture read through, starting this month with Consider Phlebas. One book a month of the core 9 Culture novels. It's going to be a book club for the Culture, but not in Marain. It could be interesting.

Certainly worth listening to him speak. His admission to both the aspect of craft and the similarity of it being a game is significant in my minds eye. To me it seems clear that writers have, as he said, mystified the process over the years, but in reality its a craft and its enjoyable and adictive like a game. If you can get that, then you can be a writer easily.
