For all you tubers who relentlessly ragged on me for having the music too loud without enough engine sounds.... here's a version JUST for you!

thanks for all the great comments, guys! my car originally came with a 3.23 Sure Grip. it couldn't have been gotten with a taller gear because its a 4spd car with A/C. taller gears combined with the manual trans made the belts come off the compressor too easily so you couldn't get big gears. but being the performance enthusiast that i am, i removed the AC over 22 years ago when i bought the car and am now running 4.30 gears.

Two reasons: Most of the video was shot on a 25º day and the starting sequence was taken when the car was initially started. (moisture in the exhaust) The car doesn't actually "smoke" at all.

@ManyTailedFox yep... the original color is "Top Banana" so that's the color I went with when I restored it back in 1992. Same goes for the steel wheel & dog dish hubcaps... those are what came on the car when it left the Hamtramck plant in `71.

@jeremykops like corvettels9 said... its really just a stock exhaust (manifolds, full exhaust out through the factory tips, etc.) except that i'm running dynomax super turbo mufflers.

Sound awesome dude, but I wouldn't say it's better than a Coronet. All the cool old MoPars are equal in my book. Right now i'm driving and restoring a 1982 Mustang. 1982 is the first year for the 5.0L H.O. engine, and mine is a coupe, not a GT. Very few GLX coupes were ordered with the 5.0L engine in 1982, AND it has a rare paint code and all options. It's probably a 1 of 1 car, kinda cool. It's a 4 speed car also. With the setup I have on it right now it moves pretty good so it's fun.

@peelerboy In my opinion, Plum Crazy was the best color that they put on the challengers.

low 13's is easily attainable. a mild cam, properly advanced distributor, 3.91 - 4.30 gear and sticky tires should put you right where you want to be.
@Carguylogan
@Carguylogan 15 жыл бұрын
4.11 wasn't a factory option. 3.23, 3.55, 3.73 and 3.93 (or 3.90/3.91 depending on whether it was Plymouth, Dodge, or Chrysler) were the performance options, and 2.76 was standard for non-performance cars.
@4wheelfun943
@4wheelfun943 15 жыл бұрын
yep... your bee WILL run in the low 13's with some work, but those numbers come with sacrifices. you have to run steep gears (3.91 - 4.30), sticky tires, lots of timing, a good size & functioning carb... its not a cake walk. when i had 3.23's in my car it was considerably more sluggish than how it is with the 4.30's. its a completely different car. problem with the big gears is that you want to avoid using the highway! lol!

Hey peelerboy i've been watching all your challenger vids and I really like the way that car performs it really runs good and as you can see by one of my comments you know what kind of car I have and I was wondering what I could do to it to make it run in the low 13's which I don't know that it won't, but probably won't, it's sad to say but i've never even driven it but it runs excellent and will go and stop, those cars weigh 4,000 pounds, but what did you do to yours to get it to run so good?
@4wheelfun943
@4wheelfun943 15 жыл бұрын
having a low 13 second performer with an older technology car almost automatically means you won't be getting decent fuel economy, unless you go with a modern transmission. (with overdrive) otherwise, to get even close to 15mpg, you're going to have to be happy with high 13's/low 14's. mine is bored .030 over, super mild cam, 750 dbl pumper holley, OEM exhaust manifolds and a centerforce dual friction clutch.

Well 14's or less I would accept but what size engine is a 383 bored .30 over and what is the excat brand cam you got and whay didn't you put headers on it? And what pistons did you put in it? Brand, dome. flat top, what compression, head work?

Is that car 100% stock and numbers matching?? Great job on keeping the original paint scheme, wheels, and tires. I'm tired of the resto-mod and urban-import look. I just want to see some 100% original Mopars! You are amazing for having that car the way it is and actually driving it around and taking it to the drags. I used to have a 4 dr '74 Dart that was decently quick (look in my videos) but a '74 Dart is nothing like what you have. Someday i'll have a really cool Coronet or something.

Well the trouble is I want this car to be an often driver, with hopefully 15mpg but I don't know, I don't like big cams at all, I like a good rumbling engine, your cam is about right it's not too bad, What ignition system do you run, points or electric? What excactly did you do to your engine, what cam? what carb? what size? bored? headers? What kind of stout ass clutch? lol I really like your engine alot and want to make mine like it, And I will sacrifice some performance on the gearing for now

Sweet. Yeah, finally, I can hear a nice Mopar sound. I found an in-car vid of a 440-6 GTX in the 1/4 mile....and all I could hear was "SWEET HOME ALABAMA" blaring through my speakers. Why would someone drown out a big block? I like Skynard alright, but seriously.....

So your telling me that my 69 Dodge SuperBee "Will" run in the low 13's with just a little work. Well I think the factory gearing in it should be like 3.55 and I don't really wanna make it lower geared because I do cross my fingers for a little gas mileage. lol But damn, I didn't realize how fast these cars really are, by the way I can't believe you car had a/c. that's has to be rare. How did that 3.23 run, was it sluggish at all?

gtdrummerdude, A coronet or something? How about what I have which is better than a Coronet but based on it. A all original and matching numbers 1969 Dodge Superbee with a 383 Magnum HP engine and a factory 4 speed. mmmm aint it all good ,and im proud of my car, can't you tell, hope some videos pretty soon. Keep dreaming and trying, you might get something like that one day, hope you do, alot of fun!
