The 440 car has nothing to be ashamed of though. Thats pretty stout.

The 67 GTX is the car I drove in high school. Same color, Turbine Bronze with factory black racing stripes and non functional hood scoops. I had the 440. My brother had a blue 67 GTX with the hemi. Unreal to think of today.

He was using a 2 step (rev limiter). Drag car stuff. Hardly stock in my opinion.

ztw It's called a stutter box, not a 2 step rev limiter.

Seems lots of people don't understand what the F.A.S.T. series was. Factory Appearing, Stock Tires.
@fredc83463 жыл бұрын
And that is why we have to tell them so much in the comment section. A lot of these videos either say stock or allude to that and they shouldn't. These runs are just for fun as they are not stock at all. May even have some strokers. People even used to do that in local NHRA racing as they were rarely checked years ago.
@lewisshepard92393 жыл бұрын
@@fredc8346 exactly right. We ,well most of us do know what we’re getting. At least these videos don’t say “pure stock” and have a 15 second duster running 12s. and out running a 440 six pack. lol.

You're right it's shakey, sorry about that. We are not professional videographers with fancy equipment. Just a bunch of racers out having fun, recruiting anybody willing to hold the camera, hoping to share the experience with our fellow muscle car enthusiasts. This was filmed by my 12 year old son, who had never used this camera before, and was having a hard time seeing the image on the camera due to sunlight, and the zoom feature multiplies any movement of the camera. There is a fellow named Mike Kamm who was selling some very well produced video of FAST racing that you might enjoy. If you do a search, you can probably find it. Best regards, Joel

If they were both 'STOCK' I bet the 440 would take the hemi. I have an old magazine that compaired the 383, 426 and 440 in the same car (dnt remeber which or what year but I think 70) and the hemi won 0-60 and quarter mile but the 440 won the 'passing' contest from 45 to 65 or close and was a tenth away in the 0-60 and quarter times. I think most muscle cars would be lucky to go 13s and that would be good tune and driver.
@johnkendall69625 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't A well tuned Hemi was always going to out run the 440 Even the 440 6 pack wasn't enough. With the same gearing the Hemi was always about a car length ahead in the quarter mile and really pulled away after that because of the better breathing and the fact that it had a higher rev limit. Only place the 440 was competitive was in short red light to red light street races. You are right about the 13 second times though on street tires. With today's tires its no real trick to get a stock Hemi into the 12s

john kendall Was at the drag strips back in the late sixties,early seventies. You are exactly right on all counts.

The 691/2 A12 cars stock vs. stock would beat a Hemi car. Ronnie Sox tested one with a 4 speed and he made 10 passes with 9 of the 10 all in the 12’s. The fastest stock Hemi car tested by Car Life magazine was a 70 Hemicuda that went 13.10 at 109. All is true about the deeper top end of the Hemi, but in 0-60 sprints, I have seen 383 cars better them. Banzai starts we’re how the Super Stock darts and Cudas were raced by Chrysler in 68. 5,000 Rpm neutral drops were their method to get them out.
@fredc83463 жыл бұрын
@@lewisshepard9239 Where were you finding 'stock' cars like these back then? We even had tons of plain V8 cars with at least headers. Not a whole lot of stock cars. You were probably dealing with modified cars and then all bets are off.
@fredc83463 жыл бұрын
@@bradleysmith3121 Sounds about right. Everyone around with the 6 pack cars were about even on the street with a couple hemis around. Hemi may win on the strip but it was real close, so other factors came into play deciding wins most days. People just want to continue to make the Hemi be mystical. KIller when modified but not stock.
@jeffleblanc88504 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the 440 is prob the better motor to build and I’ve seen hemis beat buy 440s most can’t afford hemi stuff although 440 isn’t much better wen it comes to money

Factory Appearing. Dipshits. Appearing. What would you wanna bet that a wrench has been in there with a fresh cam and a little flow work? Stock tires. Todays tires are light years better than the old glass belted and bias ply. these cars would be in the 14s Slicks and a little suspension sends them right to the 8's
