I'm Hearing & have been in a relationship with a Deaf man for almost 7 months. I think what makes the relationship so special is how different our cultures are & points of views & many other things. But the culture difference really makes the relationship special & you form a special connection too that no one else understands :)

This is so incredibly uplifting and inspiring! I have recently been diagnosed (I don’t like that word, but it’s the only one I can think of) as HOH and will most likely be deaf in my lifetime and have been wondering about the process of dating and marriage and family. Knowing that others who found something in the person to encourage them to learn a language and get to know the other person is incredible. And not only the partner, but in laws and friends. You have a made a OurSignedWorld viewer for life (or however long you keep up the vlogs) and hope all the best for you two!

OurSignedWorld I love them so far! I'm currently a student at College of Southern Nevada, with hopes to transfer to Nevada State College in their Deaf Studies program once I gain my associates. NSC is the only four year in Nevada that offers Deaf Studies, which is a shame since Nevada has a shortage of Interpreters and such.

I'm sure this has been asked a plethora of times, but do you guys know of any good online resources for beginning to learn ASL? There aren't any classes offered at the local colleges in my area and I would love to begin the process of learning it. I love seeing your story and watching your channel manifest itself on KZbin. Keep it up!

Ren Newman You can see if there are any Deaf events in your area. That's typically the best way to learn. Start with the alphabet then joining Deaf Events. If there are none, then I guess watching ASL VLOGS. There's websites like signed naturally but it's fairly old so I'm not sure if that's the best route.

Ren Newman I took a course at a local college. To refresh myself, I use Lifeprint.com and do the lessons. I also watch Bill Vicars videos (he runs life print).

As I'm going through an ASL1 course at a local Deaf School, I had also bought the IOA course (Groupon for $10!!) While I have so far found it to be a great for back round and some etiquette, learning signs he leaves a lot to be desired... Perhaps if they had a "back 10 seconds" button on the videos to replay, re watch a sign at a time, I'd give it higher marks. Glad I got it at the discount but would be very upset had I bought it for the full $300 price tag...

How did Zack lose his hearing? Was he born deaf or was it a circumstantial cause? I have a deaf brother and he was given medicine at birth that caused his hearing loss. I soon hope to go back to college for interpreting. So glad to be able to follow your blogs and your story.

Amy Roloff Hey! Zach was born 3 months early and his lungs were not duly developed. They think the medication caused his hearing loss as well.

hello! this is random but you guys seem really cool so I thought you would be good people to ask. I am incredibly interested in learning ASL and have been for a few years now. however, my school does not offer classes and I cannot afford a private tutor or any sort of classes outside of school. so basically I watch a lot of deaf KZbinrs and do my best to learn what I can from books and the internet, but obviously that doesn’t quite equate to truly learning ASL as I don’t have a way to really sign with anyone. I was wondering if you guys had any ideas of what I could do to better learn ASL and be able to use it more? I am really interested in it and would like to pursue it but am not sure how. thank you for your time to even read this far!!
@OurSignedWorld6 жыл бұрын
Hey! We love that you are so motivated to learn! That is great! Try finding some Deaf events in your area that you can go to and meet more Deaf people! That's honestly the best way to learn :)
@annawarren5156 жыл бұрын
OurSignedWorld thank you so much!! I actually just found a beach bonfire deaf event near me that I am hoping I will be able to go to! follow up question...obviously it is nerve racking to converse with someone when you don’t fluently speak the same language but is it uncomfortable at first trying to speak to someone who is deaf/hearing if you are not? I understand that it will likely be difficult at first but are most people who are deaf okay conversing with those of us who are just beginning to learn ASL?

So you guys speak ASL? As opposed to Signing Exact English? Someone told me that most of the signs are the same for both--it's just the grammar that is different--so I can take all of the signs I've memorized and use them for either ASL or SEE (although SEE seems much easier to me since the word order is the same). Is that true?
