they need a better way to hold those balance weights in place that's pretty chintzy way of doing it on a $2k fan
@sean.crouse
@sean.crouse 3 ай бұрын
A couple of points: I wouldn't be surprised if the assembly line workers wear ear protection; and using tape is a terrible idea as it may have not been making that noise after assembled, but changes in temperature during shipping and sitting before installation loosened its grip, but also what's to prevent it from loosening over the years, especially from the heat of the motor. As mentioned in the video, the tape's securing the balancing weights...could you image them doing that to your vehicle tires (though I don't recommend you take your fan off-road 😂)? They need a better way to secure them.

As a electrician, those Wago's are great. I also wrap mind in electric tape. Keeps the release tab lock down and won't accidently pop up when stuffing the box. Also use di-electric grease on all outside and bathroom treaded bulbs. Keeps them from rusting and unscrew easier. Love your show.

 Aloha Liz and Stud Pack family. I was so honored that of all the thousands of comments you get, you responded personally to me. Thank you and God bless you! I just watched the installation of the lights video - really great! "And then there was light!" I've been thinking that just about the time the "Dream House" is finished I might just be ready to make my home user friendly for my 80's and 90's - slide out kitchen drawers instead of cupboards, walk-in shower, garage remodel for live-in help, and whatever other modern conveniences that help people live out their lives in their homes might be available by then. I wonder if that might be a Hawaii destination "retrofit" the boys and your family might be interested in making their next project? Thankfully there is plenty of time to consider it, and I am sure your talented husband and the boys might enjoy the challenge of researching and documenting a project like this for the benefit of so many seniors who want to be able to stay at home. Just a thought. Please keep in touch and, once again, God bless you all, Mrs. Victorious Lee Pahoa, Hawaii

An interesting thing about Wagos is they actually have a hole in them on the top for test points for your multimeter leads. By positioning them upwards with the wire coming out towards the ground, you will get water in this test point. But I am pretty sure they are wet-location rated any way so it's a moot point. Show off that test point thing in a future video if you haven't already, it is super useful for taking safe measurements on established circuits.

They get a lot of hate from old school electricians, but when wiring up lighting, particularly rooms with a ton of recessed lights, lever locking wagos are the way to go. You'll save your hands from a ton of wear and tear trying to twist all those wires, and you won't be sweating over whether that one stranded to solid wirenut connection was good enough or not.
@coolbugfacts1234
@coolbugfacts1234 Ай бұрын
@@hochhaul IMO it should be code that any stranded to solid connection use a wago style connector. Wire nuts are supposed to be not a connector, but a cap over already twisted and bonded wires that are robustly connected independent of the wire nut. But obviously there is no way short of soldering to bond stranded to solid wire.

On a side note, Since you're having a combination of Philips Hue (I've got about 20 in my house) and Halo with Wiz, I highly recommend planning on adding Home Assistant to your network stack so you can control everything and get all the Wiz stuff on your Apple Home app as well. I've got a combination of Hue, Govee, Nanoleaf, Wiz, my local (Ubiquiti) cameras, all visible/contrallable through both Home Assistant, as well as (via Home Assistant) Apple Home. You should really consider sealing around the outside lights. Not so much for water proofing, but to keep insects from being able to build nests in those cavities.

I could be wrong but I think they'll need to pull it out to replace the light when it goes bad and it would be a mess on the ceiling.

@stevewayne3676 He's talking about the fixture where it mounts against the wall and he's very correct, ants, spiders, wasps, bees, earwigs, ladybugs, wood beatles and other insects love to nest inside the fixture bases and electrical boxes.

I was wondering why you would skip something that is so simple and cheap to do, and could save you from so much headache down the road. Also kinda curious why you didn't just add the 2 extra screws to the top of the front light fixtures, since that's where all the weight is going to leverage.

I installed a pair of these on a large patio porch, the assembly kit is amazing from them. The fans are NOT cheap by any metric. Too bad they shipped it out with that tape loose. Likely, it will come loose again. Tape doesn’t like being free from the backing long without being pressure fixed to a surface. Cool build.

I just wanted to see how many people would trash talk the Wago connectors. Lol. There's always at least one guy, that knows a guy, that says they are dangerous. Never first hand. They say "they wear out, and create a short causing a fire". Well, don't constantly move them around to wear them out! I like them, myself.

As as Europen I will never understand this "fear" of Wagos in the US. They are used for decades over here and nothing burned down. btw I only see the Wago 221 lever nuts in Videos, dont you have the Wago 2273 in the US for solid wire and 224 for lamps?

Great job on the halo lights. With LEDS the sky’s the limit with colors. Like Paul I’ve done my fair share of fan installations. I love those BAF’s I wish my house ceiling was tall enough to install one like yours. Keep up the good work. I’ve been watching your videos well over a year now and gone through the start of this project garage. It’s a great accomplishment

I’m am Electrician, installed 2 fixtures for a realtor client of ours. Each fixture was north of $3000. They were ugly, but she picked them. - I once swapped a fan for a fan on a 12 ft ceiling. The carpenter that installed the ship lap did not install the bracket that holds the fan. It almost took me out!

NUTS! :) I had to chuckle when you guys took the fan apart. I'd have done exactly the same. And like Paul said: it's what guys do. LOL Closing in on getting the "Garage-partment" done!

Putting a flat washer between a star washer and the mounting surface is No Bueno! For the star washer to work it needs to bite into the screw head on one side and the non-rotating surface (mounting plate) on the other side. With the flat washer the the star washer instead bites into it instead but could easily slip against the fixed mounting plate. If you want to use a flat washer, you need to add lock-ite to the threads - or use some other locking mechanism to prevent vibration from walking out the screws.
