The win % for 2024 stated in the video is off two decimal places. Losing 7K on 2 million wagered is a loss ratio of .00369, as listed in your spreadsheet, but this is a loss percentage of 0.369 %. Your win percentage for 2024 is 99.63 %, not 99.9963 %. But this is still a great outcome for a year of VP. It's partly due to choosing good paytables and from occasionally vulturing positive-EV UX games, but is mostly due to a huge positive volatility swing mid-year. Volatility can swing both ways.

One important thing that was not mentioned during the 2023 calendar year, there was a moment after a livestream where Matt played ALL 100 hands on 100 play quarters Deuces Wild. One of the deals was 4 to the Royal Flush and Matt was able to connect on 5 of the hands for a massive $5000+ win. This is considered a potshot and I do encourage players to take very few rounds at higher than normal denominations out of the blue (not frequent, maybe once every few months) since hitting a decent hand on higher than normal denomination can skew/swing the bankroll in a positive direction. If the casino has high denomination available, probably a good potshot range will be $10 denomination for 25 cent / 50 cent 1 dollar OR $25 denomination for 2 dollar player OR $50 denomination for a 5 dollar player. Again, just two or three hands every few months apart so that it does not negatively impact the bankroll if the potshot does not come through.

Thanks. We do try to explain the benefits of playing video poker over slot machines, but most people never bother to learn about it. Also, we will admit we have been rather lucky so far, as we expected our losses to be closer to $35,000 per year.

It’s not a critique but an observation, I have always felt that video poker requires luck on top of the strategy. Getting 4A’s + Kicker x12 holding two aces and a dealt royal on dream card were some parts luck and also based on the time and number of hands played. Someone popping into a casino a couple of times per year may get lucky but most will not. Nice recap, thanks

The flip side to this is if a person pops into a casino a couple times a year and hits one of those hands, they will almost certainly win for the year and not lose thousands of dollars in the year on top of that

The absolute worst video poker I have seen is 6/5 jacks or better at the Las Vegas Airport and 10/8/5/3/1/1 bonus poker at the D and Harrah’s, both in the 94% range.

Video poker is a better game IF you know how to play. I see people holding wrong cards all of the time. I just sat next to someone holding face cards only when playing deuces wild. It would be interesting to know what the actual casino hold is on video poker. They don’t keep the lights on by paying back 99.98%.

Curious what the exploitation was at the hard rock with free play where they no longer give it to you

When the casino first opened, and for several years afterwards, they had 9/6 jacks for quarters and up. It was a great pay table and the free play and comps were also very good. They also had some video poker games where the "theo" was set too high. So, if you could fine those machines, you could play a 9/6 jacks game with a house edge of about one half of one percent, but be earning comps and free play based on a 5% to 7% "theo." It was not hard to be an advantage player in that situation. Eventually, the casino figured out what they were doing wrong and put the smart players on a "no mail" list and that is what happened to us. Since that time they lowered all of the pay tables. Quarter games for jacks or better are now 7/5 or 6/5 and all machines track the "theo" correctly. So, you can't be an advantage video poker player any more. We have asked to be reinstated with free play and comps since they corrected the problem, but they tell us "we are too good for them". It is interesting that a multi-billion dollar corporation is scared of our video poker play! On the good side, though, they do allow us to film there and they have been very nice to work with.

Your estimate of coin in sounds rather high. Your assumption of 8 hands per minute, 20 minutes per session, $25 per draw. I don't think you're getting 160 hands at $25 each, per session. You should be able to compare to your win/loss statements with coin in. Much of your play in 10 hand, and you usually let all the hands play at normal speed. If your estimate of total coin is inflated, the resultant percentage loss increases and closer to the expected value. Overall, it was a great summary. Nice job. Hopefully the KZbin payments are covering your losses.

Great video, and thank you for it. But there is a huge elephant in the room, isn't there? Namely, the TAXMAN. They take all your "handpays" (winnings over $1200) and tax them! If you are using standard deductions on your Federal tax returns, then you can't even deduct your gambling losses. So for most of us, every time we hit for more than $1200, we pay Uncle Sam somewhere between 10 and 20 percent of it. Your taxes are your own business, and I don't mean to pry. But I would really appreciate it if you would mention this issue more frequently in your videos. I keep hoping that someone can talk some sense into Congress and at the very least increase the minimum W2G win to say $5000. Between that and the increasingly worse odds at most of the nation's brick & mortar casinos, playing VP is a seriously losing proposition. Or maybe I'm just another old-timer missing the days of 9/6 Jacks or Better at quarters maximum.

We kept reading news articles last year saying that the threshold would be raised, but we haven't heard much more about it recently. The current system is very unfair because most people will get a W2G for a jackpot of $1,2000 or more and have to claim it as income. They then lose it back, yet they still have pay tax on it because they take the standard deduction. We do a video once a year with a CPA gambling tax specialist. Let me educate you. It's 99.63%, first off. How could you not realize this? Either way, insanely lucky. Secondly, you play games with nearly impossible strategies. A safer estimate is 96% RTP. I'll be lenient and say the coin in is 1.5m. 60k loss. Kickbacks at best are 30% of theo, so call it 42k loss. You have basically no views and the sponsorships probably pay little. Retitle, "Outlining the worst possible business model on YT" P.S Those big slots channels offset losses via all their shilling and ad rev. But let's get real, they're not playing with their own money.
