Our abandoned creek property is flood bad. I never seen this coming. I take my German shepherd guard dog with me to search the property and to see if we can see anymore sign of the black bear that we think is living on our land. To my surprise we find something crazy.

I grew up around black bears and they tend to keep to themselves and shy away from humans. If they do come around, you must make them learn to stay away from humans. A shotgun with rock salt is good to have around. Long handle shovels are good and baseball bats, m80's and other fireworks are good for scaring them off. Don't leave your garbage or food out. Don't put out any bird feeders. Any trash in barrels needs to be secure with bungy cords or locked up. Also keep some bear spray around too. Now if your bears are brown / grizzly bears then stay away from them at all costs and maybe hunt them out of your property. Black bears are not usually a problem, just don't make them a problem by making your property a bear paradise with readily available food.

Usually, where you see the yellow flowers (daffodils) it means there was once an old homeplace nearby. Would probably be a great place to go metal detecting.

The bent tree is an Indian marker tree. They would train the trees to point usually towards water or a trail. My Dad lived in Vina Alabama. The University of Alabama has a study on them and the coordinates where they are located. They visited him and took pictures . It points to the Greek on the back of his property.

That double trunk tree that was laid over on the side is a marker for the local indigenous people for something so depending on which way it's pointing it could be pointing to where the water is or something else within the area have a look around see what you can find and you'll have an idea what that marker mean

@Judy Loveland Hello fellow western NYer! Love the Adirondacks - spent summers as a camp nurse on Forth Lake, near Inlet, where the bears would go to the town dump. Don’t see them west of Rochester, but 10 yrs ago on 390, by Dansville one crossed the highway. I’m sure there are some near our farm, but the area is filling up & pushing them west & south. We’ve got 14 acres, but homes all around.

Raccoons scratching for grubs;a bear would have done more damage and scattered the rotten wood farther from the trunk. The scat the other day looked like bear poop which can contaminate water with Giardia so you need a good water filter and it's best to get your drinking water closest to the spring source.

I live in Kentucky, and we call those flowers Buttercups. They start growing close to Easter and are usually in full bloom by Easter. When I was younger I would pick some and put them in water with food coloring in the water and put the flowers in the water . Whatever color you put in the water it would turn the edges of the bloom that color. I used red most of the time. Maybe your girls could try it.

I noticed a few things and the tree definitely could be from a bear digging out bugs to eat. The other tree is a or appears to be a Indian marker, usually where you find daffodils you’ll find a old home site, I believe at 13:28 their is a big round hole on your right that’s looks like it could have been a root cellar. If Indians were on the property they would have set up on the highest point around there. I would buy myself a metal detector and detect around the daffodil area for sure! You may be able to look up the properties history through the usgs mapping system.

Wow, that property is gorgeous. Gabby sure was having a good time. That definitely looked like a bear scratch tree. I've been expecting you to find a tree that mountain lions have been using as a scratching post. So those caves may actually be dens for animals. A few times Gabby had her nose in the air like she was catching a scent. I'm glad you brought her along because the noise from the creek and the waterfall would have made it hard to hear something or someone approach. Looks like you could use that bus as a deer blind. 🤔

Wow, what a difference from the other videos of the area. Gabby is such a beautiful dog! I hope you carry a weapon when you're out there. I definitely noticed that as a sign of Bear in the area. Thank you for sharing.

Great shots with the trail cam, thanks for sharing I love those. I’m glad Gabby listens so good she scared me too getting close to that swift water. I have a GSD looks a lot like her, we have a pool and she swims every chance she can. Love your videos and family thanks for sharing

Enjoyed the walk with you, Gabby deserves a treat when you get home, she was so good. The tree looks like a bear, next time I would take a rifle with you. Just incase Gabby and the bear meet.

You are lucky to see what the property looks like when it is flooded. This will show you where not to build anything and areas to look out for flash flooding. I love the property. It has so much potential for you and the family. Much better than a flat plot of land. That could be from a bear. I haven't looked at trees on my property for bear scratches. I have black bear, bobcats, coyotes, fox and a few other critters where I am in the southern Adirondack Mountains in New York.

That sure is some beautiful property. I’d say that tree is a scratching post for a bear most likely looking for some bugs to eat. Glad you took Gabby with you she had a grand time.

Very possible black bear. Be careful when y’all are out there. Gabby had a ball - she was so excited checking new things. Glad you were able to check out the new property after that huge rain - learned a lot more about the land. So happy for y’all.
