NK Motor they did send a ~5 cm long model car to the edge of space with a weather balloon some time ago, so not a “real” car that’s actually flying, but it’s something. EDIT: here’s the video of the model car space balloon thing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHi9e4lmopmSmKs

Also I think they did also attach this exact car to a hot air balloon earlier, before it had the propeller and floats fitted.

I have a tip for hovercraft-like vehicles. To steer them, you have to give a lot of throttle to move a lot of air through the steering blades. If you reduce throttle but steer, it will turn a little due to airflow from moving forward but it will mostly go straight forward. So give a lot of throttle, this makes turning way easier, faster and predictable

@charlie156274 жыл бұрын
It really needs another 2 or 4 barrels. Just to keep the frame from bucking water. That alone is slowing you down quite a bit. It looks like you have the steering vanes tapered closer together at the top. That could have been causing some of the rear lifting that was making your nose sink. All in all, that is a really cool build and one that I think is worth the effort to make improvements on.

I'm glad you didn't edit the fail. as Adam Savage said, "failure is always an option." Keep it authentic :) Keep it real

Now make a 4 way joystick that actuates four single piston cylinders (use a master from a hydraulic clutch - 2002 Accent for example) in an X formation and connect it to a X and Y axis pivoting joystick with pushrods to press into each master, oriented centrally so that each corner of the X points to the wheels LF, RF, RR, LR starting at top left and going clockwise. Connect the other end respectively to each corner of the car's brakes with brake lines - 4 way selective brakes ;)

I think if you guys tilt the top of the "fan" towards the front of the car a little to push down on the back and lift the front and maybe set the car just a little bit further back to bring the bow up a little, and put a bigger pitch prop on there, maybe a 3 blade prop with a decent amount of pitch, depending on how much power you have in that engine, and you'd have a pretty nice little contraption that'd move pretty good in the water, awesome fan car/boat tho

What if you used a rear wheel drive vehicle and installed dyno rollers in the rear to control the speed of the fan? In addition to speed control the rollers will add weight to prevent the front end front diving into the water. And for steering you can make 2 U brackets that hug the front rims which would be connected to swivel plates to control the steering. This would be pretty cool! Great episode as always though!

Okay, which eejit forgot to ensure the raft was securely moored to the bank. The propeller should be pointed slightly up so the stern is pushed down slightly when under way to lift the bow. The faster one sails the more the bow will be lifted.

Maybe adding some way of adjusting the propeller's vertical direction so that the front of the boat is angled upwards, or adding counterweights to the rear of the raft. Also perhaps adding a turbo or supercharger to the motor so the propeller can spin faster, or a transmission to increase RPMs
