A mothers instinct is always right and despite being told different by 8 different professionals - I just knew something wasn't quite right. Today we got the news and he had to have surgery. A very emotional day.

Hi Sarah Chris Girl's and Baby Jace Poor Jace I hate it when they have to have operations, 😥😥 Edward had a operation on his ball as it would blow up, when I took him to the hospital it had gone down by the time he was seen. He was two month's old, and again aged 5 as one had gone up and had to brought down again. He was so brave running around ten minutes after both. Give him a big hug and kiss from me. In defence of all the midwives who said he didn't have a tongue tie, as a midwife you are not trained to identify tongue ties, only the very obvious ones. Posterior tongue ties are extremely hard to diagnose without the relevant trianing and midwives have to pay out of their own pocket hundreds if not thousands on the training (which on the wages is not usually possible!) I agree however, it should be part of the trust training but its currently not in the majority of areas in the UK 😫

Oh I’m so sorry this had to happen to you! I know how it feels when your baby has to have surgery, my daughter (6months old) has to have an operation on her urethra (the tube that goes from kidney to bladder) as she had a blockage from before she was born and had her side cut open to have the procedure done and when she woke from the anaesthetic she was in immense pain, I’ve never heard my baby cry soo much and be so inconsolable!! (She is such a good baby) it honestly hurts so much not being able to help them, maybe try Panadol for him to ease the pain, he will learn how to feed again Sarah I know at the moment in must seem so hard but he’s a little sponge, he will pick it up he’s a clever little man 🥰 sending lots of love to you and your beautiful family and hope for a mighty quick recovery to your precious little man! 💙❤️

Firstly I hope Jace has a quick recovery and thank God for the lady who came and watched you breast feed and diagnosed his tongue tie. It would be nice to see trainee midwives spend a few weeks of there training with someone like her. Secondly I can understand completely why you couldn’t be with him during the procedure Sarah. It must have been agony waiting for it to be over. Well done Chris for being with him, it can’t be easy seeing someone hurt your child even if it’s the best thing for him. I applaud both of you for the way you have coped with this. I wonder how much the procedure cost the NHS, although I think the NHS is absolutely brilliant I wonder if the professionals are steered away from diagnosing it. I think it would be an idea for the ifam to raise some money to help at least a couple of Mum’s who can’t afford the consultation a chance. This could also highlight the problem of being misled by being told it is definitely not a tongue tie, when the breast feeding expert could see and was 99% sure it was after one visit. You have been through so much Sarah all the worry about not being enough for Jace and the midwifes concerns about his weigh loss and everything surrounding it, is not something a new Mum should have to deal with. Well done for persevering. Not all heroines wear capes!

That's crazy cause I commented that about a week after he was born and suggested to go a an actual specialist. Glad you did now cause it would just be harder as he aged. It can also affect their speech if not treated
