I commend you so much for putting this out there. Most people would be ashamed but you are so brave to tell your story. I relate to you in so many ways. My husband and I have been together for 7 years. When we first met I worked a retail job, he worked solar, we thought we had life all figured out at a young age, got our own place, and he lost his job. He found another job making about $10 less an hour and I worked overtime as much as I could. He then lost that job. We could barely afford to pay our rent. Most stressful time of my life ever. A few weeks passed and he began working a temporary position through a temp agency as an electrical helper, and 5 years down the road, today, he is an electrical foreman and storm recovery crew lead for the same company. He performed his temporary job well so they hired him full time to work with the company. Life turned around for us. We bought our first home in my childhood neighborhood right across the street from my parents home & where I grew up 2 years ago and I am able to stay home full time now to help my father with everyday tasks while my mother works to provide for him & my younger siblings. (My father has a severe spine injury and is disabled.) Even though we have a savings account now, we never splurge on materialistic items. We take 1 vacation a year and are very mindful of any situation, disaster, or accident that may arise. Sometimes it's tempting to spend money from savings, but we remind ourselves we may need it in the future because you never know what may happen. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your story. It's so great to see how amazing you guys are doing. I hope so many people can become inspired from your story!

Thank you so much Courtney!! Wow! We have some many things in common! It can be so scary when you go through things like job loss and and barley being able to afford rent. I'm so glad things have turned around for you guys and you're doing great!! Like you said it can be so tempting to spend money from savings but like you we try really hard not to. I'm always looking for ways to save whether it's on groceries, clothes for the kids or even vacation! I really appreciate the support!!!!!

I don’t know if you have explained this before, but did something happen to Chris while he was in the Army causing him to get put on disability, if that makes sense?
@CramerCrew3 жыл бұрын
No, it was his ETS (I believe that stands for ending time in service) and when you get out of the Army they do a routine physical. If you have any type of injury or PTSD lets say they figure out if it can be contributed to your time in the service. If it was they determine what percentage you'll get and then you receive VA disability for the rest of your life. Sorry if that's confusing lol.

could you talk about how you separate things into your savings account vs your checking? like do you take a certain percentage of the paychecks or something different?
@CramerCrew3 жыл бұрын
Yes! We don't do a percentage. Honestly we usually just take look at what we have left at the end of the month (sometimes I do it weekly or bi weekly) and then we transfer most of it to savings. I don't like leaving us too short in checking though in case we want to do something or something unexpected comes up. I HATE taking money out of savings now so I really try to avoid it at all costs lol.

@@lilywilliams8168 It's so scary at first! I really wish they would teach stuff like this in high school because it would be SO beneficial!!!! You've got this though! I know not everyone is a fan but I really like Dave Ramsey! He has some really good financial tips.

how does/did bankruptcy affect your future finances?
@CramerCrew3 жыл бұрын
The biggest affect it had was on our credit. We had start from scratch to work and build our credit back up. Thankfully we are back to having good credit again!
