Do not listen to anyone saying to put shoes on. The healthiest thing a person can do is walk barefoot on the ground. Your body can connect with the earth that God created.

If I have spots on my property that I do not want weeds or anything I put baking soda on the ground and then I pour vinegar over it. Now it’ll kill everything so you don’t want to do that in your garden but if you’ve got a fence row or something like that it really does help. Plus it won’t poison your animals or your kids or anything like that.

We did the exact same thing with our fencing/garden situation. For a "fast" solution, my husband snipped the bottom of the fence with wire cutters, up far enough from the ground so the weed whacker could reach; of course, holding at an angle. It wasn't a permanent solution, but the fence was for the goats not the chickens so we were able to cut the bottom off 6" or so.

I have a fence around some stuff and like you said, have the fence off the grow a few inches. This allows my weed eater access when the chickens don’t make a pass regularly.

I set up my garden so I can mow down the grass paths with my small electric lawnmower then I try to mulch the edges but will use a weed eater to touch it up if necessary. Been doing it two years now and I think the technique is called living pathways and it's been going really well so far. Very comfortable on my knees to dig or harvest too. I use the grass clippings to mulch my garden too. I know you will get your garden straightened out! Your videos are always enjoyable.

Be sure that the walkway between the fence and garden is wide enough for a wheelbarrow. It is so difficult to spread gravel or bark in pathways when you cant access them with a wheelbarrow. I know this first hand. 🙂

I love your videos and have enjoyed watching them over the years. So glad you are posting, one day we will get around to posting some of the hundreds we have taken over the years.... :) Maybe try rotational garden areas with livestock weeding, fertilizing and removing pests while growing produce next to it. Like a square within a square within a rectangle within a square, etc., like a maze with an unfenced path into the center wide enough for a wagon. Rabbits and turkeys to eat the grass and sprouts; Goats to clear; Chickens to dig it up help with pests and weed seeds. Planting one area while livestock works the other area=no wasted space and no permanent livestock housing to become over-saturated with their own soil building fertilizer (aka poop). It takes more fencing and gates but less pests and no weed eater for that area. It also takes more time because you just can't immediately grow in soil that has just has fresh chickens in the area, i.e., salads, harvesting young greens, etc. Rotation.

In Harbor side Maine,😮 Scott n Helen Nearing...used Rock to create the border of the gardens and they were at least 3 feet tall ...it kept the critters out and it was also an insulator, for it warmed the soil, to a point. I saw it and it was quite impressive. They lived near the ocean so there were many stones available. And the walls needed no maintenance neither...I wonder if you could do low stonewalls and the stakes could be in the ground as usual, and the fencing could be on top of the stone wall, in your situation. 🌿🔆Truly enough each and every episode you create.🔆🌿

Hello, new subscriber here. I have looked at several videos and can’t wait to watch more. I often worry, as a fairly new homeschooler, I worry that I’m not smart enough to teach them as well as someone taught to do so. It’s not self pity, I have other strengths but grammar is not one of them and my mom brain is forgetful 😅. I am probably putting too much stress on myself with how much they aren’t learning. (I do have generalized anxiety disorder). We’ve got two acres with high hopes for a little homestead. Any words of wisdom or video links. I’m kind of an idealist and plans in my head don’t usually work in the real world. Part of me is constantly torn between putting all my efforts into the homestead or the kids as I’m not the best at doing both. It maybe as simple as me giving up my smart phone, (it’s a big time waster) sorry… I’m rambling.
@1000sofroots9 ай бұрын
My biggest encouragement for you is to look to our loving Creator, the One True God of the Bible, for wisdom. He shows me what I need to teach my children, where to find help in areas I am weak, how to put people above projects, how to include my children in the work of the homestead, how to be thankful always, how to love like Yahshua Messiah. I don't always get it right, but the peace of His presence never fails. If you know Him, go to Him for everything. He is so faithful and good. Blessings to you.❤

What do you do to prevent deer? They are a major problem in my area and everything is eaten. It's also so great to see at least one child barefoot. It is much better for foot development for kids and those with negative comments haven't seen the benefits.
@1000sofroots9 ай бұрын
We have dogs that keep the deer away. I'm not sure what we would do if we didn't have dogs. I remember years ago when my grandpa had deer get over 6 foot tall fences. I hope you find a solution. Blessings.❤

Would cinder block edges be less expensive than cement?
@1000sofroots9 ай бұрын
We would still have to fill them with cement and anchor them to the ground, but thank you for the idea. We do have a lot of unused blocks sitting around, so maybe we will give it a try.🙂

I love your videos!! I noticed that Nate is going bald; as well, Esther seems to have had alopecia. This is usually caused by stress. As they get older, hair loss will be a great source of trauma for these children.
@1000sofroots10 ай бұрын
It was actually caused by black mold exposure over 12 years ago. It is an "incurable" form of alopecia universalis, but we are praying for healing and thankful that their health is great other than the hair loss. Blessings to you.❤
