I've been a reseller for a long time. Primarily online...We opened our first of 2 booths at Black Rose in Chambersburg in 2018. We had stuff stolen, broken, found gum wrappers in our stoneware crocks. The icing on the cake was a big wad of "used" chewing tobacco in one of the crocks we had. Nothing surprises me anymore. I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot of scumbags in the world.

What is the point of paying rent on a booth with no security cameras? That vandalism was no accident, or children messing around.

About 8 years ago I had a couple of booths at a flea market in springfield, misery. The place was called the S... T... D... (The old occupants of the building was Springfield Tool &Die) Flea market. It's kind of like your antique mall, but different. I had some items stolen out of my booth that I pretty much know was an inside job. When I asked the manager about it he kind of acted kind of weird and then when I asked to see the video footage the video cameras were conveniently not working. Another problem that I used to have was I would find other people's stuff in my booth and I would walk around and find my stuff in other people's booths. My advice to you is to get some video cameras and put them into your booth. Have a couple of them in plain sight and others hidden. I wish I would have done that when I had those antique booths. I was so angry I just packed up all my stuff and left and told him to take their little flea market and shove it.

I always thought of mid-mod as so “old-fashioned” when I was growing up, mostly because my parents had a lot of it. They hired a decorator when they built our ranch home in 1963, and it stayed the same until they sold it in the 90s. As an adult, I have fallen in love with the style. Oh, how I wish I had asked them to give me the beautiful furniture and accessories that they probably sold for peanuts at their moving sale 😭

I’m a vendor at an antique mall, and have considered putting all of my merchandise in locked showcases! That is where I put expensive, fragile items, and anything small enough to slip into a pocket. Most people are great, but it only takes one of the less common ones to make someone feel they need to defend themselves! I hope whoever vandalized your booth is caught and prosecuted. There's a game interior designers use when it comes to furniture. The Lane pieces are a step end and a cocktail. Calling them by just an end table or a coffee table cheapens the perceived value. Couches are for the den, sofas cost more and are for the living rooms and bedrooms. A divan is a couch for the summer room or screened porches. I have yet to figure out how a davenport works into the picture because a davenport is a type of writing/study desk. Maybe it's a regional thing, but I do digress. Point is, certain pieces of furniture get a bigger price tag if you label them to fit the price that you are asking.

Last year those trees were going for a lot! (This year they probably will too.) When I was visiting Alabama last fall, I went to an antique mall where a vendor was selling newly-made ceramic trees (handmade, not from China). I picked up a cute one for $40. Then earlier this year I went to an estate sale, also while visiting AL, and got a big ceramic tree for 50 cents!! It's so dreamy--it's turquoise and lime green--my fave. Can't wait to put it out this year.

So frustrating! Damage happens in antique malls, but if they don't have someone monitoring the floor and it isn't caught then the dealer loses. Have you considered getting a locking case? I had a theft problem in a mall once until I got a dummy camera (much cheaper than a real one that there's no one to monitor) and hung it in the booth. They'll go to another booth to steal or break things.

Part of owning a booth and cameras really don’t help. Even if you catch someone, finding the person after the fact is nearly impossible. Thieves and vandals figure out where cameras are and know how to skirt or just do it right in front. On stolen stuff, I have had to file a police report on more expensive items. After 38 years I have learned to just take it and not get upset. People keep shop owner/worker busy as someone else they are with might steal or take a portion of something and leave rest.

I'm so upset this happened! Why do people do that, or if it was a accident, own up to it! Is there video that was able to catch the culprits? I hope so!?🤨😓

do they have cameras,or insurance etc, or do you have to just write it off as bad luck

They could probably write it off as a loss on their taxes.

This is why I love The Hillsboro Antique Mall in Broward County Florida - at first I was super annoyed that every section we walked in there was always someone watching and apron and basket - this person would just pop up in every section - I told my sister do they think we are going to steal or something and then the young lady said “ we are shopping buddies we are assigned sections and we run stuff to the front for you and help you - - I thought it was amazing since my hands were full - I love your show and your style -

I use Ricochet and a Dymo as well! Once you get it working right it is easy, but I had trouble getting it to talk to each other at first!

I hope that you open a storefront at your shop so you guys (or someone else) can supervise. I am shocked how desolate antique shop booths are when I shop. I rarely encounter the actual vendors. So sorry for your loss. Cameras that you view on your phone are affordable. 😢

What are you asking for the Lane coffee table? Thanks.

When I saw those Lane tables, I thought, "I bet Jocelyn will keep those for herself." They are def your style. But I agree w your reasoning, and they aren't that hard to find, agree. I have a Lane side table that's the "rhythm" pattern and I love it.

I sell at an Antique Mall in Wi. We have a fair amount of vandalism as well. For awhile we had anything that had a hat on it, get the hat ripped off of it. I would find hats that didn't belong to my items in my booth. I would sometimes find my missing hats in other booths. It was quite frustrating. I believe the culprit was found, after I pointed this out. Lots of vendors started to notice the same thing. I still find a fair amount of broken stuff, as well as lots of items that shoppers drop off because they changed their mind.

@The Crazy Lamp Lady , don’t they have cameras in the antique mall? If so I would think you could possibly prosecute for vandalism at least with listed prices alone you are over $500. which in our state is a felony. So sorry you experienced this. 😞

I have the haunted barn with sound! Really spooky! I got it free due to a drop & damage. I 'saved' it and gave it new life! It's glued back together and you'd never know! I like it and would never get rid of it! I love D56!
