Cody you should be proud of yourself. Best way to learn sometimes is under fire and working through the systems. This machine will be so valuable once up and running completely.

Yes, steering is hydraulic. Your hydraulic oil is pink because it is full of water.

Get a coil with an internal resistor, if your engine does not have a resistor on it some where. The resistor drops the voltage so your coil won't get to hot.

You can try cleaning the points, resetting the gap, and replacing the condenser. Also check the volts with a meter.

Check the points in the distributor that's where the spark comes from. If it has electronic ignition module in the distributor that could be faulty. Check you have the coil wired the right way around this may be why its getting hot. Hope this helps

Also change the condenser in the distributor. When the key is off no power should be going to the distributor so it should not be draining the battery and cooking the coil.

There's a good chance you have a short to ground in the distributor if the coil is getting hot.

Old ignition system. Did you check the points in the distributor? Also find a good bare bolt or spot on the block itself to ground it against.

Burned out ignition coil , might best have a resistor placed ahead of the positive connection, if not internally resisted

If those long wires are sparkplug wires they are to long. You need to get the correct lenght. You are not getting enough energy down thru the wires.

I have a Ford 3000 and if you have power steering which I think you do, I saw the cylinder you have hydraulic oil in those lines. What happens is you get grooves on the steering shaft and it will leak fluid?

Coil- goes to distributor Coil+ goes to ignition switch. Coil + should only have power when switch is on. Forget about trying to make sure points are open when you shut tractor off not ever going to happen. You're making my brain hurt! Coil is still good just wired wrong. Only time you will get a spark is when points open. You changed your timing when you rotated the distributor. Both screws on carb should be out about 2 1/4 turns

There are a lot of good tutorials on KZbin about how to troubleshoot these old tractors. Should make it a piece of cake to get it running good. In the past I've had several of those old tractors.

2 terminals on top are the 12 volt positive and negative. Center post is where the coil sends the juice for the spark. Your testing is all fugged up. There are only a handful of components to fail. How is the coil in the distributor? Opening and closing the power to the coil won't make the plug spark, though. All that does is activate/deactivate the coil.
