I’m using a cookie cooling rack with a heating pad on top!! Cover with old hand towels!! Works great! I also bought a small puppy play pen for 19.00 it zips close and everyone is safely contained. I use old feed bags cut open and then cut to fit playpen!! I believe in recycling what I can and the paper is not to slick to cause straddle leg. I give them food and water, but they are so excited for dust bath!! Lol! I subscribed love your resourcefulness!

Awesome idea, but I found out that even a 60W blanket doesn't provide enough warmth for my day old Muscovy ducklings. It doesn't radiates any warmth unless you touch it directly and for a while. Ducklings can't regulate their own bodyheat, so they solely depend on radiating heat (body heat from the mother). But your idea gave me another idea. I have a 50W heating cable laying around that I used for my reptiles, and that one gets pretty hot and does radiate heat. Securely tucked away in a PUR plate and using a simple dimmer to adjust the heat/temperature: boom, you got yourself a heating plate that you can regulate, that you can make larger when needed (those 50W heat cables are pretty long), that is waterproof, that is super easy to clean and safe to use. Cheers!

You will also need a Feder Feeder, as well as a Broder Brooder. Both are fine products.

How long do you keep them in a box this size? How would you raise the level of the heat box as they grow, if needed?
@thequaileans46904 жыл бұрын
rtrn06 hi, we kept them in the brooder box for 4 weeks, they didn’t require heat anymore. then we put them in a play tent. You can see my other videos. As soon as the weather was warm enough outside, we moved them out. The heat pad we used in the brooder box had heat setting. We reduced the heat one setting a week, until they didn’t require heat anymore.

@@thequaileans4690 Wonderful! Do you know what the temp was at each setting? This is so much safer! Thank you

I use a heating pad and I just let the chicks tell me if it’s the right temperature. If they go under and are quiet, content and sleeping then the temperature is fine. They can come out when they are warm enough to eat and play. I just leave it that way until they no longer need it and mine have always weaned themselves

Can we keep a hot gel bag instead of heating pad
@thequaileans46906 жыл бұрын
Suriya Don The heating pad hut is suppose to mimic a hen when they go under. It also has to stay on continually and have different heat settings you can lower every week, until they don't need it. And it has to be peck resistant. I had 2 batches of chicks with this set up. The heat pad is king size. Around $40 at Walmart. A lot of them have auto shut off. It has to have a STAY ON feature or the chicks will get cold and die. Good Luck!
