How is the build quality? The layout is exactly the one I need but most website says to stay away from Coleman. Really want to hear from real user.

To be honest, it's not great. You get what you pay for. But we will say: it's all minor stuff. We knew that there were going to be things that were done cheaply and quickly, so our expectation was that we'd have to repair. - Paneling coming loose (attached with staples) - Broken tongue jack (spent 20 minutes attaching a new, better electric jack) - Poor caulking in the bathroom (fixed it before our first run) This camper is a great starter with no real frills to speak of. It's small and compact, perfect for a first-time RVer like us. I would say it's a great purchase if you're looking to save upfront cost and willing to do some easy-ish maintenance. You'll easily pay 1.5-2x for marginally better quality as a different brand (Keystone manufactures it) because we've heard all these issues across the board. For us, it's worth the up-front savings. Happy camping!

The economy Coleman is honestly cheaply made. What is so cheap? Mainly the extensive amount of luan wood used. It’s cheap and not the most durable. 2nd would be the vinyl siding. Again a cheaper option vs laminate siding. I don’t mention anything about the appliances, because honestly your top tier and bottom tier campers (minus say Airstream, Outdoors Manf., Lance, etc....) all use the same 4 brands for their appliances. IMO if you are a weekend camper with a family....this unit is a good fit and going to suffice for probably 5-10 yrs. If you are a long distance hauler like this family....this camper, putting more than 4K per year, they will be lucky to see 5 yrs before they notice soft spots in the flooring from water damage (unless they are overly good at inspecting their roof joints and darco moisture wraps, properly sealing any joints with DAP products). Sometimes you get lucky though. Just remember, the Coleman Lantern series (which I believe this is) is an entry level unit. It’s not made to withstand constant travel and abuse. One weekend per month, or one trip a year probably would satisfactory. These units just are built to take constant abuse. Everyone thinks floor plan floor plan floor plan. First priority when buying a camper (that is financed for a 10-15 yrs) is build quality for the amount of use you plan to do. The 2nd priority for your first camper should be resale value after 3 yrs. Then I’d advise floor plan. I’d suggest if you plan on taking your rig cross country you look for alum caged framing, alum framed doors (windows if not frameless) and an upgraded suspension system like a Dexter torsion axle. Coachmen makes light weight (sub 4K lbs campers) that are very durable called Coleman light or their Nano series (I consider these upper mid level). Geo Pro/E-Pro also are another common light weight option. They both use Azdel composite (instead of luan wood) with gel coated laminate. The only wood framed RV manufacturing brand I’d recommend would be Winnebago. That’s only because they use plywood for construction and each camper is built with a through inspection. The 2100 bh is the perfect light weight (and only dual axle sub 4K lbs I’ve seen with bunk beds).
@justinprince95073 жыл бұрын
May I recommend that one propane tank vs two doesn’t make maintenance any different. 99% of the time, propane failure is regulator issue....which comes with either single or double. AC unit of wall vs ceiling mounted also doesn’t make any different. If anything, I’d argue that the plastic toliet is a bigger maintenance issue. The biggest maintenance saver is the lack of a slide.

DEFINITELY taking notes from this. This camper is, without a doubt, a beginner camper. It was something we could afford cash up front and get our toes into the camping world. We'll likely keep for a couple of years and then trade up slightly when we feel like we know what we're doing more. That said, we're definitely meticulous with checking and inspecting. Maintaining this bad boy is our goal!

My wife and I had that same trailer loved it, loved it. It is a great starter trailer. However we just traded it in and moved up to the next level and it was another Coleman that is bigger It has a slide and 30ft with more extras. The only reason why we moved up in size was from one camping trip we has some friends over it began to rain, so that was 4 adults and 2 toddlers and a teenager stuffed in this camper. It was close quarters to say the least. As being one step above beginners getting that camper is a great way to start and we absolutely fell in love with RVing because of that camper. The extras though are nice.

Nice job mine came from New Jersey 2024, Springdale 2010 BH if you found this one, this has a furnace more storage in the kitchen sink in the bathroom. Bunkhouse is extra sleeping in the bunkhouse oversized. You could put the small refrigerator in the side and there’s a rear door. That opens for bikes or a kayak or two you buy one to make it your own. Good luck. For a few thousand more more plus it solar.

Congratulations y'all. If you are a part time camper, 1-4 camping trips a year then this is a perfect starter and keeping down the budget. Don't let the people scared you about how bad these are. I had an older coleman and it was great for me for 5 years until I started to see major problems. My problem was I used it very hard and very little maintenance. My friends had a new Lance and Airstream and from year 1 they had little issues here and there. Do it is all hit and miss when it comes to rv. Good luck yo yall and enjoy. I was thinking that since you don't have a "couch", you could convert your dinette into a sort of "slouch couch" by setting it up as a bed and topping it with supportive pillows and cushions. Then you can all enjoy the fireplace, and TV together and use lap trays or tray tables for eating. I'm looking forward to learning with you! Happy and safe travels!

Nice! My fam of 4 just purchased the 2022 Coleman 17B as well. Jealous of your pricing, we paid 15,900 but CampWorld threw in a free Coleman gas powered Trail Bike for cruising to-and-from the showers/bathrooms... we always camp full hookups, only travel with the fresh water tank empty for weight reduction, pulling with a 2003 Toyota 4Runner 4.7 V8. Picking it up tomorrow after our 1 hour walk-thru!! Proud to be SamClub members now. Oh! Can’t beat the 3yr warranty, either. Next option was the single axle Springdale but for 10k more? Nah. I’m a minimalist. I’m used to my 1pound hiking tent anyway.

Good job on the video. We bought the same RV last summer. I tell people that you can certainly get a better 21 foot camper, if you want to spend $5000-$10,000 more. You can get all kinds of bells and whistles, for more money. If you decide to purchase an economical, and discount, entry level RV, you probably just need to accept the fact that you will not have a premium product, or lots of extras I think that some people actually enjoy the process of personalizing or adding upgrades. We have. I made a video with a critical review, and showing the upgrades we have made so far, but I am not going to spam your site with it, unless you say it is OK. I really like your curtain idea! We also bought the memory foam, because you can trim it to fit. It was our first upgrade, before the first trip. Yes, the Teddy Bear Mattress is joke.

These Coleman are not too bad. They are really mainly for beginners though, like their tents, which is where you guys are at. Yes, there is better campers out there, if your willing to pay the coin, and they cost a lot of coins lol. Coleman make a good economy camper, in saying that, they are decent build, will last probably a good 5 years easy. One thing, make sure you grease check your bearings every month or so (or install bearing buddies). Good score I say, does what you need, fits perfectly with your family size, not too expensive.
@FamilyonStandby3 жыл бұрын
Our take exactly! Also, what exactly are bearing buddies?!
@Luca_Natoli3 жыл бұрын
@@FamilyonStandby bearing buddies are a device that you put over your bearings, it holds grease in it, so when you drive it will grease your bearings so they don't overheat or wear out the bearings when the grease dries up. Makes bearing maintenance a lot easier :D Here, something similar like this: being I'm in AU hope you can see the link 😀 www.trailersrus.com.au/trailer-bearing-buddies-2pcs-bearing-protectors-wi

I'm looking into one of these bc we are facing homelessness. And IF my credit score will allow it, then I'd like to turn in my car im still paying on but is very low (VERY) in miles and in perfect condition at 4 years old. But I don't think it can pull even this. Bc it's a CUV. Soooo have to buy a used truck/suv as well. Unless I find a used C Class which is breaking even. Sooooo my question is- how is this in winter months in areas where it's cold ?? If you can answer that
@FamilyonStandby3 ай бұрын
Sorry that’s happening to you! The heater works incredibly well, but you do have to be plugged in to use it. It can’t be used off-grid.

Can you tell me anything about how to work the wineguard antenna?
@danbablinskas15032 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I'm thinking about getting one of these, but I wonder how long your battery is lasting without a new charge. Do you have solar or a generator? How many days or hours can your fridge run on just battery since it is not propane? And how about the fireplace heater - does that give off enough heat and run very long on battery power?

Does the curtain trap all of the air conditioning in that end of the camper?
@FamilyonStandby4 жыл бұрын
No, not at all! Actually, temp control in this camper is surprisingly good, give that it’s a fireplace and a window AC. Since it’s such a small place, it’s really easy to heat and cool.

Does it have AC and how well does it cool during hot weather?

It does! And surprisingly works well. We were fine in the summer in Florida. The only area it doesn’t get to as well is the bottom bunk.

Why don't you add a drop counter top kinda like a table leaf that folds down just to give you more countertop when you need it

Have you tried this in really cold climates? Below freezing?
@FamilyonStandby Жыл бұрын
We did! We had a snowstorm in Montana. That little heater gets cooking and kept us warm and toasty.

Ok look guys, I'm a truck driver! I live in my trunk so whatever you thinks is bad about the trailer is gravy to me, I am definitely getting one so I can drive locally in SoCal. How tall is Snoop Dog over there 🤨😆😆I need to see how small the shower is. Great Job I really enjoyed this!! 👍👍👍👍👍
@FamilyonStandby4 жыл бұрын
😂😂😂 Snoop would tell you he’s 6’-1”, but he’s definitely 6’ even. It’s a tight fit and his head pokes into the vent. It’s easier to sit on a stool, for sure.

So cool! We are excited to see more trip! I'm over here trying to calculate if my 2010 Honda accord can tow a camper 🤔🤔😂😂

Ha! Something tells us that a trailer might tow the Accord better...

We actually didn't buy it! We got a 1" doll rod from Home Depot and cut it to length, stained it, and attached it using curtain rod holders and Command Strips :)

Have you attached anything to the wall with anything other than 3m type hooks? I'm wondering about hanging something more permanently.
@FamilyonStandby4 жыл бұрын
Yup! It's a bit more effort, but you can do it. You have to find the studs to screw into, but since the walls are so thin, you can find them easily. Just knock and you can feel them.

@FamilyonStandby4 жыл бұрын
We’ve got a 2016 Ford Explorer. Pulls well, but it’s definitly at the top of its capability, even though significantly under capacity.
@snogoosey3 жыл бұрын
searched all the comments for great advice but didnt find the one i was looking for. you mentioned that you pull this with an SUV. what type of hook up, wire wise, does it come with? does it take an air brake to stop it? if so, does it come with that and did you have to add the attachment to your rig?
@FamilyonStandby3 жыл бұрын
This trailer (and nearly every single trailer over 2000#) comes equipped with electric brakes and a 7-pin connector. That's required by law in most states. Our Explorer has a 7-pin plug in the back by the hitch and all we had to do was add the brake controller. It's a very easy install if your car is equipped with a tow package - just plug and play.
