A doggy door that has a sensor that links to their collars could be a good idea. It locks unless it senses the collar within a certain range. They have ones that link to the microchips, too, if they are chipped. They also have something similar for food bowls to help animals from over eating. Like if they have more than one pet and one likes to eat from the other bowl, causing over eating. They would buy a bowl for each and link each bowl to one pet so no one over eats.

It looks cute, but like the mutation that gives pugs their squish-face look, it creates problems for the cat. Limbs and joints evolve in tandem in animals, so when a particular animal is born with limbs that are too long or too short to match with their body/joints, it leads to issues. This happens with humans too - people who are very over or very under average height have joint and muscular issues over time.
@nate_creates11 ай бұрын
@@parlapierrotIt’s insane that no one seems to understand how cruel these breeds are. People only care about “cuteness” and don’t give a flying F about the cat’s welfare. They treat these living creatures like stuffed animals, but unlike a stuffed animal of course, these cats will suffer terribly later in life from preventable health problems. Buying these breeds is disgusting.

If your pup has a microchip, there’s a automatic door that senses the chip and only opens when he’s by the door. Then it locks automatically, it’s a good alternative if you don’t like having your pup wearing a collar or anything that dangles from it in fear of getting snag or caught on something since he is very close to the ground 😊. You get those microchip pet doors you can install. It will only read and open the door for a certain animal with the microchip that's allowed to go and won't open for other animals with the microchip not allowed to go out. You cab scan and set the animal's microchip that's allowed to open the door and go out. Hope it helps x

I recommend training hammy to use a bell at the door to communicate when he needs to go outside. Attach a bell to the door that hangs low enough for him to reach. Sidenote, make sure the holes of the bell are small enough that his nails dont get caught in it. Everytime you let him outside, make it a point to ring the bell. Eventually he will associate that sound with being let outside

@brycreeper2595or as my cats figured out, if you make the bells ring the dogs get excited and come running to the back door, so the cat is a jerk & rings the bells just to watch the chaos.

What I do is I put a bell on my door hanging down from the handle and train my dogs to jingle the bells when they need to go outside. Thats a suggestion for hammy 😁

You should train hammy to ring a bell that’s on the door for when he wants to go potty

There are microchips you can put in hammy's collar than will unlock the doggy door only when he goes through and locks untill he comes back. Im not sure what brand, but I know it exists because someone on yt had one for their cat and it worked pretty well

I think there is a kind of dog door that only opens for a certain collar tag you could try one of those. I don’t know much about them though, ant if it would even work. Btw- you have got some cute animals!

The only problem with an automatic door with sensor collar is that a smart cat like Theodore will figure out how to ride on Hammy's coattails, so to speak, and get out. I've had this very same problem with my cats and dog. Those doors don't close quickly enough to prevent a determined feline. I think your best option is to "cat-escape-proof" the outside space the doggy door leads to. There are screens that can be mounted on fences or walls that sit at a 45 degree angle inward, that a cat will not scale. Cutting back any greenery they can use to climb out is also a must. If you're moving to DC, you might want to wait to plan/install all this.

My family always trained our dogs to ring a bell by the door when they wanted to go out. Annoying, yeah, but very useful. My parents switched to a doggy door eventually bc all kids were graduated and their home offices were upstairs.

Same here, that's what I was going to suggest :) it can be a little difficult sometimes to discern when they actually have to go and they just want attention haha
