Villa have about 10 players in their squad that have played in the Champions League prior to joining the club. Some of whom including Torres and Maatsen even got to the latter stages of it. Plus the club had the Conference League last season that would help getting acclimatised this time around better than say Newcastle did last season, despite the comparison always being made. It'll be tough for Villa because it's a strong competition but I think some of the concerns are lazy ones that are just easy to attach to a "new" team.

Pau Torres reached the semi final of the champions league with emery at villareal, matssen was in the final last season, onanna and teilemens have both played in the champions league, you can add them to the guys you already said. Duran has started a few games for villa and has averaged a goal every other game as a starter. Also morgan rogers started up front for villa pre season, as both duran and watkins were away for a long time with their countries and he scored about 5 goals or so.

This might be a long comment, but the way Barca were discussed threw me off. Yamal is a brilliant player, but the engine of our team is Raphinha. Game in, game out, he is creating the chances and providing the platform for the others to succeed. This is very similar to how we played in 2022/23 until Xavi switched the system (for no reason). Lewa is playing higher up, but I dislike how much he drops deep. Yamal is unlikely to get injured because of this system. He doesn’t have as much control of the ball as people assume, and with our team now having 4 excellent midfielders (De Jong, Pedri, Olmo, Fermin, and even Raphinha taking up that 10 role), there is no doubt that Lamine won’t have to exhaust much of his energy. My expectations are Quarter-finals and at least the Copa Del Rey. Although Hansi has had an excellent start, winning the league will be tough and so will winning the UCL.

I back Liverpool to go further than Arsenal in the ucl. Firstly, they haven’t been too impressive at the start of the season, the midfield is VERY thin and Odegaard is already injured, they looked shaky against Porto and one of the worst Bayern teams in years last season partly cause of inexperience and they still don’t necessarily have that much this time, their attack was also pretty poor against Porto and Bayern and we’re yet to see them tested against Europe’s elites, and lastly Liverpool do just have more experience and have more game changers which does suit the ucl.

I actually agree with zack about liverpool over Arsenal in the champions league. Often the chamions league doesn't make much sense, we saw last year with Dortmund getting to the final for example 🤣 . Often in the first year we have a honey moon period with the new manager coming in, Slot with liverpool is a good shout to go far in the champions league.
