I remember we had a first year teacher in my freshman year first period. He wanted to make a bold entrance so he walked into class and jumped onto his desk. Problem was the guy was incredibly tall so when he fully stood up his head went through the ceiling tile and broke it. I can tell you that he did get our intention and I remember 15 years later

I remember when I was a senior in HS the freshman girls were getting in brawls almost every day and I remember a male teacher saying unless it was very serious/dangerous he was hesitant to get involved because of the disaster that could come from it. Like you said, complaints/accusations, etc. it would put them in a very bad situation and that’s what he explained when someone said they thought that was messed up.

And like Bri said, we aren't normally trained. And there's different laws in different states. I work in IL and we can temporarily restrain a kid to keep them out of traffic or something like that, but otherwise we're not supposed to do it could cost us our jobs too if something happens on the legal side of things. And if you wanted to be trained it's not offered directly as it should unless you're in the Special Ed department that I've seen. I've been the primary recess supervisor at the elementary school I work at for 6 yrs now and I'm still not trained. But I will put a kid in a "bear hug" hold to keep them from hurting themselves or others if I need to. I'm not supposed to but I will if need be until admin arrives. Not the big kids tho.

Just an piece of advice, if you’re looking for a mentor try looking for an experienced teacher working part-time, or possibly someone you know is retiring. My mom is retiring this year after teaching 45 years spanning 3 generations; 11 and 15 years before my brother and I were even born… I am not a teacher but quick tip; retiring teachers tend to give away all their stuff at the end of the year. It’s a great place to score teaching resources, classroom decor, books and other materials for students, and even furniture.

HOLD UP!! The teacher who could not get employment based upon a former employer's testimony about her can set that employer up for some big time legal trouble. In most states, employers can legally provide any truthful information about their past work performance but most employers won't do it because there is a huge risk that the former employee may bring a defamation lawsuit against them that would cost a lot to defend. She needs to hire an attorney and sue them for defamation and damages.

Mind you I was probably one of the most active employees, always had good customer reviews and worked until I was about 9 months, I didn't know what was going on and ended up signing because from what she explained I'd be able to come back, well apparently she didn't tell our lead and when I was showing up weeks later they put that I basically abandoned the team and my job and I was so pissed 😂

In 2nd grade, my teacher’s classroom had a big bug problem. We would walk in to the classroom sometimes and find a spider or some flying bugs. Since our school was pretty open, bugs were a normal occurrence in the hallways. Most of the classrooms were in their own little pods. My teacher’s room however was right by the doors that led to the recess area. One day we walk into the classroom to find a wasps nest. It had formed over spring break and my teacher hadn’t gone into her classroom yet since she had gotten to school a bit late. The wasps were EVERYWHERE. It was horrifying. We had to evacuate the school since the wasps started to go everywhere.

For my first year of teaching as a sub I legitimately thought there was some cruel deity playing with me. First long term sub job and the day I get into the classroom, there’s no lesson plans or anything from the teacher I was subbing for. I thought odd but I’ll work with it. Some other teacher comes in and gives me a crash course on what I’ll be “teaching” and whatever miscellaneous programs I’m supposed to use. And she casually drops on me that my whole class is just RSP/SpEd kids but assured me they will be fine to work with. Again, I play along like a dutiful sub and try to use every trick I learned from credential classes to convince these five kids to work with me. One kid, who I’ll call Ricky, refuses to do ANYTHING besides listen to his music and watch TikTok/KZbin on his phone. I tried everything in the book I could think of short of bribing the kid to go along with me. Eventually, I settle at a compromise with the whole class. If they do work for HALF of the 3 hours or so they have with me, they can relax the last half of class. This plan, although not great or ideal, is the best of the worst decisions I have. However, after a day or two of peace, Ricky decides enough is enough and refuses to listen to me at all and actually starts distracting the other students who are still working. I try to get him to stop and eventually resort to sending him to the VP every day. Then Ricky decides to start calling me a pedophile to his friends at school. I immediately inform the VP of the situation as he is also the head of discipline at this school. Y’all wanna know what he said he’ll do? “Oh I’ll talk to him.” In my naivety, I thought ok sounds good to me maybe you’ll get through to him where I can’t. Yeah no that didn’t happen. The next day during lunch, the kid calls me a rapist. Obviously, I bring this up to the VP again and he talks to Ricky… again. Y’all wanna guess what the super useful VP did this time? He got the kid to write an apology letter to me. Although he and the whole administration at the school neglected to tell me in any sort of manner that he had a 1st grade reading and writing level meaning his handwriting on the letter was almost completely illegible. Ultimately I had to tough it out for one more week, and I thought I made it out but the kid had one final surprise in store for me. He reported me to the principal for abuse. Apparently me tapping him on the shoulder to wake him up in class amounted to physical abuse. I’m talking tapping his shoulder with the same force you would to wake up a pet. You bet your ass I celebrated after getting out of that shithole of a school.

Some of the classrooms at our school are pre-fab buildings..famous for hosting all kinds of creatures...and I too am almost phobic about insects. Growing up in a warmer region of the country, surrounded by nature...I thought I had seen them all...Until my first summer teaching here in a much colder area...one of the main reasons I was excited about the move. The things that come out of the woodwork, literally....the one time it was me screaming, and my neighbour teacher came running. She just told me to close my eyes, she's got this...and she always did. Became a good friend. She eventually relocated to another town, so that she and her fiance could move in together on the farm where he works. We still keep in touch 5 years later. When she moved I selfishly panicked, on the inside, thinking about what to do about these bugs....we even fumigated the class one weekend, did nothing, only killed the bugs that were inside at that moment, the ones outside didn't get that memo. But my new neighbour heard a commotion next door and came to check. Found me crying, bravely trying to get the bug out or dead before it reached the students. It wasn't a poisonous or dangerous, but 25 little kids, trapped, running away from it...not having control over their reactions, I get it, that is dangerous. She swooped in and saved the day, still does 🤣😇 My husband has a visceral reaction to frogs anywhere near him, and he cannot believe that I could catch a frog in the house with ease and carry it outside...It's not a thing for me 🤷♀️ Not a scaredy cat or prissy at all. When other women complain about their husbands going away hunting or whatever....because they're scared home alone. Some would even sleep over at a friend's house or have someone stay with them. I'm like over here, thinking about an entire weekend by myself, since my boys would obviously accompany him, and I get so envious that I have to leave the conversation 🤣 To me, they're complaining about absolute nonsense and acting almost ungrateful. He's gone away once or twice, and I told none of my friends. I was feeling all sketchy trying to hide it, but I'm so afraid that someone assumes I feel like most.of these women, and wants to come over🤣 Afterwards it was all like where were you last week? And I was there every day...🤣 My husband has been through so much trauma this last year. Physical trauma, a work accident, missing teeth now and he's had 3 reconstructive facial surgeries. He admitted to me that he has trouble remembering things since the accident. Both his grandmother and his father passing away in June and December. Accident happened end of November. We were visiting his parents, he had a check up with his surgeon. It's an almost 3 hour drive, but his parents live nearby the town where he had the appointment. We arrived on Monday, and on Tuesday morning him, his sister and I went to the hospital for his appointment. She stayed in the car outside. When we exited and saw her red and puffy eyes, we just knew. His dad had then just passed away. Well, recently he did the craziest thing 🤔 He had to go for another check-up, but his mom was already on her way. Her plan was to sleep over for two nights at each house (my brother and sister in law with our 2 nieces and nephew, husband's side). Now obviously she wanted to sleep over when he'd be there too. She won't even come here before 5 when he leaves work. It used to be fine between us all, especially me and sister in law. I didn't get the agenda, but there definitely is one... Anyway. He told her that she should rather come to our house the next two nights...I witnessed him telling her to sleep over at his brother's house that night. The rest I was unaware of... He knows me well, he even knows when it's really time to leave my space for an hour or 10 so that this introvert can regain sanity 🤷♀️ So, he went away for 2 nights, while his mother moved in. So the entire time she was visiting, around a week, she only spent those 2 nights here. I find out much later from a very indignant husband, that he had asked her to come over. He was even upset with me like I was being ungrateful for his efforts...I looked at him, so slowly and as calmly as I could, I told him that he knows me so well, that it feels like he's being spiteful 🤷♀️ For the sake of my marriage I convince myself that he might have forgotten a good few things...the confusion on his face that day was so obvious. He also doesn't remember telling me that he's lost some of his memory. So he's either gaslighting me or he really has lost some of his memory. Both are absolutely possible and have and do happen. The thing we were taking about last night also hit him hard. So again there I could see pure confusion on his face. So not only did he rob me of my blissful isolation (not from my boys...they're so much part of me it's like they're extra limbs...) for 2 nights, he invaded my sanctuary with his mother as his only weapon...🙄🙄🙄 And it's not like she wanted to there without him🤷♀️ It's so bad by now....this sudden change in their agendas also scares me. His phone had been broken and off for almost two weeks. They talk every day via messages usually. It took her that long to call on my phone 🤣 As long as I believe that he really doesn't recall...my marriage will be ok

My favorite thing is that the kids showed the teacher the video of the fight LMAO that’s exactly what it was like at my school. Too many fights for the teachers to care until it gets really bad

I would go to the bathroom at least once per class in high school. And sometimes I would run to the convenience store, and come back to class with a bag full of snacks. I was never more than 5 minutes lol.

My first year of full-time teaching was certainly one hell of an experience. Not only was it the 2019-2020 school year, but I worked in a juvenile psychiatric facility that was so bad and poorly run that the state shut them down and I lost my job (not mad about it bc those poor kids). But yeah, our school was basically 2 hallways with flimsy "walls" that students would destroy on a daily basis. Anyway, needless to say, I got a lot of stories from working there. I was accidentally punched in the face while I was trying to move through the classroom and 2 students were play-fighting. The class was so loud and chaotic that the 2 didn't even notice or hear me reprimand them.

Dudeeeeee, as a volleyball player myself I would've fought that girl. Like what the heck, we don't hit you on purpose. After the ball gets hit away from our hands we have no control on where it goes.
@s1llybunny0082 жыл бұрын
Exactly! One time in the 7th grade I was PRACTICING volleyball with my friends. I had never played before. This girl and I didn’t like each other and had previous problems. Anyway, I set the ball as best I could and it hit her on the back. She went and said I was “bullying her” and got me in trouble. Like I have no control over that and I was a beginner 😐
@norawillard20612 жыл бұрын
@@s1llybunny008, jeez, people always think we have something to do with the ball hitting them!! I've been hit in the face mutiple times by volleyballs and I just laugh because I understand. We don't have control over where the ball goes after we pass, set, hit, or serve it

Exactly! I've been hit in the face multiple times while playing volleyball and other sports in gym class, but it's clear that it's unintentional.

When I was in eight grade a girl was supposed to go to the office and wouldn’t, so they got the school cops. She ran out of our home ec classroom and around the school two or three times, came back into the classroom and tried to grab the knives. She was arrested that day

“Try Jesus not me cus baby I’m not the 1, 2 or 3…” I’ve only heard that from one other person and that was Mrs. Petrovski in 3rd grade. I love hearing it again for some reason especially from a teacher 😂

PE was where to fight if you were gonna get into a fight at my school just because the football coach would just tell you to cool it and calm down or else. It worked because the football, basketball, soccer, and baseball coaches were all in the gym, and the PE classes typically consisted of athletes from those sports. They would handle it at practice. Also my parents put me in martial arts and self defense, of the few fights I’ve been in, if my parents were contacted the question wasn’t if I was ok, it was did I move first, and did I break anything in the other kid.

Thats why I recommend to any teacher that if you aren’t allowed to break up a fight that you need to befriend the friendliest football player you have who’s also big enough to stop a fight, no quarterback. But befriend them and call for them to break up the fight. Because if you cant touch the kids another kid can. And I say football because usually they’re bigger kids with muscle or just really tall and big.

In regards to the kid that had the seizure after being denied access to the restroom... How does that even work? I'm not following how going to the bathroom would have prevented his seizure. Also, wouldn't you prefer it to happen in class, where there are other people around him, than in the bathroom, where he'd have been alone?

My first day teaching I was at a Catholic School. It was a school with a connected church. Several awful things happened. First of all a teacher next door asked me what time I was leaving with the kids for Mass. I was like "what Mass?" Apparently, there was an all school Mass down the road at the other Catholic Church. I had like 32 third graders to walk to the other church across a very busy street. It was not pleasant or smooth or in the notes. We finally got back from Mass and the fire alarm went off. They had a fire drill and I had no idea what to bring or where to exit. I had to ask the teacher next door where to go and what to do as they hadn't yet posted where to go. I went home and cried after that. I subbed 1 more time there and then got a full time job. I could go on and on with horror stories of parents, teachers and admin. I taught pre-k 23 years.
