There’s never an end to taking care of things when you own property. You were very smart to call the previous owner and your persistence paid off while searching for the drain. Good job Colin! Nice job on clearing the stairs Shaun. You two are hilarious taking a nap. It was nice to see the dogs having so much fun running around. Sherlock is so handsome and you take such good care of him. The loch is spectacular with the ice and frost. No skinny dipping right now. Have a good weekend. Cheers!

Be a bit of snow up in the high country but yeah lots and lots of rain down lower. Always little things to keep ahead of when you own property, had a water issue that was getting worse - asked a friend that worked for the city to get a crew to check the water main in the street up behind us, a few days later he reported yes there was a leak for an estimated ten years that was close to blowing out - back to general downslope water flow😊

Go a little ways upstream of the drain and dig a big hole in the middle of the stream. That will trap all the debris coming down the hill. As a side benefit, you can use it as a private bathing spot on days when the beach is too crowded.

I emigrated from The Netherlands to New Zealand 40+ years ago, and am watching this , trying to keep cool in our warm summer weather! I well remember those cold and frosty winters when the bottom of your lungs seem to freeze up on your walk to school, and icicles formed in your muffler. Sometimes I get a bit nostalgic for cold weather, then I remember that it was mostly wet and cold and nostalgia flies away! Thank you both for another great vlog.

The last scene reminded me of the year the shallow sea water bay near me froze over - I was just a bit further south than you are. Watching this gave me anxiety! We live at the bottom of a ridge and get massive amounts of runoff from the surrounding houses when it rains very heavily, which it has done here in the last 3 weeks, as well. We've gotten 2 months worth of rain in 3 weeks. We have drains and pipes and rain gardens and dry creek beds but with all this the rain anymore that infrastructure still gets overwhelmed. Luckily our house doesn't get any water. That frozen loch is gorgeous!! I would definitely have brought a flask!

You could try deepening a section of the stream bed just upstream of the drain to act as a sediment trap. (Summertime job!) It won't stop the leaves and twigs, but it'll catch most of the mud and stones. And if you put a slab in the bottom it'll be easier to shovel out when it fills up.
