A curious Humpback whale came right up to our boat and hung out with us for nearly 14 minutes. Filmed off the Kona coast, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Filmed with GoPro Hero 4 Silver on a UK 38" extension pole.

How beautiful. I love how the whale gave a gentle splash with her tail knowing full well her strength but gentle enough that she did not soak you nor rock the boat. Same with the fin slap....just a gentle hello! How on earth does anyone give a thumbs down????

If i could offer one speculated reason is because whales need to learn to run from humans not be gentle. There are still humans like the japanese that still hunt whales and dolphins. This interaction could lead them to running into danger the greet what they think are more friendly humans

It k ew exactly how. lose would be "too. close!" When it pushed all that water toward the boat the boat barely rocked!! And, the spraying and spy hopping! omg! Such an HONOR!! And, with the laughing man leading the others, showing them that this was a fun and funny interaction!! 😀 (So often, humans are idiots around wild animals. When they seem happy and want a connection with us I tear up. When he blew air, they celebrated so he took air and went a few feet down then blew and blew for the people celebrating above. The waving fin too, but it's fascinating just how careful he moved, so very gentle. I wish we put as much money into communicating with the none-human highly intelligent life right here on earth, as we do space. The oceans have so much more to share, so much to learn.

Those were my thoughts exactly. I wish they knew how beautiful and gentle most of these creatures are toward us and how sweet they can be. I just watched a video about a humpback whale that saved a woman from a tiger shark. Very deliberately basically pushing her body up to the surface and even hanging around for a couple minutes to make sure she got on ok. I wish people could swim with them and feel deeply moved to help save them and the planet.

Awesome underwater filming. On top of the water, not so good. Gopro's are not good cameras because they make the background so unrealistic. Such an incredible experience.. It's so interesting when whales interact with is. I wonder what they're attempting to do? Communicate? Study and learn about us? Perhaps they do it just for the reactions? Maybe all land-based creatures that can vocalize out of water are simply fascinating to them? I can't help thinking that they have a purpose in mind when interacting with humans. Who knows, maybe they're trying to figure out why we finally stopped hunting them in favor of learning about them and coexisting instead?
