Not sure i’d ever get opportunity to make those noises in my context but wow! - HRM is now on the need to buy list - Dan’s soundscaping is majestic - Need to revisit my chorus options, I think I’m being too heavy handed with it - I need a gold top! Not sure if humbuggies, P90s or even Filtertrons but I need a mahogany single cut in gold! Each of you built a rig that played to his strengths and tastes, covered immense ground and provided every type of sound the gig needed. All the concepts that have been discussed over the last few years - applied to perfection (and in a very different, personal way for each of you) to get you where you need to be. From now on, if I have to explain TPS to a friend and why so many people love it so much, all I have to do is point to this episode. Enjoy the time off, we’ll be here replaying this in the mean time. It's almost a philosophical task that requires so much knowledge - not to mention the skills on the instrument. What you do here is really fucking honorable every time. That neck pickup on Mick's gold top Less Paul is something else. It's such a great balance of warmth and articulation. I've always struggled with neck positions on humbucker guitars. Awesome, love the specificity of this setup. 1 wild detail about Shine On is that that the keys you're hearing in that opening sound so uniquely lush (and unlike any available synth at the time) because they're not keys. They set up the studio at Abbey Road full of wine glasses, filled them to various levels to ring at certain notes, mic'd each one sent to 16 track tapes, charted the chords out on the wall, and choreographed all hands to run between all the glasses rubbing the rims, with the techs carefully using eyedroppers to keep each in tune against evaporation. The performance was repeated endlessly until perfect, sampled (on tape), performatively mixed to get the modulations in tone, looped & sequenced them for use in a whole album comprised of sounds made by Household Objects. An enormous amount of work that already took a months of studio time, and would have taken years and was already sounding pretty bonkers, so they abandoned H.O., used the parts to make Shine On and Wish You Were Here was born. Every time I hear that pad sound, I picture the four of them racing around & tripping on cables for a month and consider the difference between being a musician and being a recording artist.

Dan at 22:00 real chorus section of the vid… i had to pause after that, take a cold shower and rethink my life choices… what a glorious tone it was

That was a fantastic episode. All of your tones were glorious. The tone with the 12 string was off the charts awesome! The part I really liked is both of your genuine enthusiasm and continued high from playing your gigs with Andy. It just seems like they were a gigging (and life) milestone for you both. As someone else in the comments mentioned, I love that this seems like a culmination of all the years of work and learning on TPS. Absolutely amazing. Cheers.

This was a fantastic episode. Really enjoyed you showing the sounds you crafted for the gig. And there were some seriously great sounds today. Nice one guys. Please do this after any other significant gigs!
