Mark, Your way too cool!!! I'm 67 and a retired 40 machinist and man I wish you were my neighbor because I would love to learn and work with you. Been studying your primer making stuff and love it. Thanks for all you do. I got a couple of buckets of shells. Just need to learn how to make the compound. Still kinda confused on the epm8. Please continue making vidios.

A conveyor type belt or screw auger to get the heavy brass from floor level to the top was needed and a method to drop the brass individually was needed. Regardless - it saved a ton of time and I miss having it.

would be interesting to add a shaker table too get everything to lay flat before sorting rails.
@helpmenowmark
@helpmenowmark 3 жыл бұрын
I can see what you mean ...or perhaps a slight angle toward the rails to facilitate an easier push down the chute. What we were missing was a screw auger to get the brass from the floor to the flat table. We had to lift the brass in five gallon buckets to this level.

Hi Mark, first thanks for your videos and input, that´s inspiring! I work with a upproller sorting mashine like yours too. What speed/rpm. do you use on your rollers and what angel?...I work primarily with rifle brass. Give my regards to Marshall too, Best regards Per
@helpmenowmark
@helpmenowmark 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough question because the rpms were variable. It was mostly trial and error. I know for sure the bottom of the rollers were right at only 12" off the floor. I can only estimate the top were shy of 4 feet (the top of the rollers). The length of the rollers were approximately 5 feet long and a diameter of 2 inches. The exact angle is difficult to recreate except one thing. The brass without the machine running was just sitting above the sliding point (just shy of over coming the friction force). When the motor was turned on - it was alll that was needed to get the brass moving down-hill. I can say - once we found the "sweet spot" - we didn't fool with the speed of the motor but it was handy in fiddlin' with the optimal running speed. Hope this helps.

It will take entirely too long to type or draft all of this up but I may be able to make a movie about this movie and talk in more detail (about parts and such) but this movie will be taken in 1 take, no editing, no annotations (or the like). I do my best with the time I have. In the meantime I looked through my sent emails and came up with these excerpts to others (just like you). It is relatively light being made of x channel aluminum. I'll do my best. Let me see if you have another vid (not as popular as the one you probably observed). kzbin.info/www/bejne/mquuoZylabyce68 Did you see the above and kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3O3Yp16fc6qiqc The rollers were 2inches in diameter by 5 feet. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/mquuoZylabyce68 m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3O3Yp16fc6qiqc I believe the rollers were machined down to have a shaft of 1" protruding at both ends Help me - help you www.patreon.com/primervideos I may have to be a few days from now as I've got a packed schedule and take care of my folks (both still with us!)

Does your machine separate 40, 10mm, 357sig, 38 special, and 357magnum? Most brass sorters I've seen with the rollers like yours dump all 5 of those calibers into the same bucket. I've come up with a machine that is able to separate those 5 into their own individual bins. Now I'm searching to see what else is out there's anything like what I've done.
@helpmenowmark
@helpmenowmark Жыл бұрын
Yes the same bucket because its the base diameter that dictates the drop point. I no longer own the machine but I miss it terribly. I will say that many times the calbers were easily separated even if like sized bases (such as 380s and 556s) are easily separated

This is brilliant! So this machine sorts the brass by width alone?
@helpmenowmark
@helpmenowmark 2 жыл бұрын
Diameter at the base of the brass so 380's and 223/556 brass falls into the same bucket. But if you can't separate a pile of 380's and 223's ... Saves hours and hours.

Do you mind sharing info on how you found or made the rollers and the bearing ends?
@helpmenowmark
@helpmenowmark 3 жыл бұрын
The rollers were custom made (expect to pay $600 each!). Approach your metal shops/fabricators in your local community. They start with ordering the roller and turn down the ends. They are expensive. I think it's a 2" diameter roller with 1" shaft protruding out at each end (see 2:42 second mark). The protruding ends fit into a 1" box bearing housing. What you have to be wary of here is the "feet". You need to order the right box bearing so the "toes" of the feet don't prevent you from mounting them close to one another. Your machinist can consult his catalog(s) and he will know what to order/look for.
