Hey guys - my husband and I are African American and we have been visiting Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge every 6 years since the late 90's. Racial issues were a concern on our first visit as I research our vacation selections and was aware of the demographic. However, we have never encountered anything but friendly and kind folks and we always have a good time so much so that I have recommended this location as a vacation destination to friends and family. We typically secure a cabin on a mountain with gorgeous views. Although it's quite touristy we have a good time and the cabins offer so much that you can spend quality time with your travel companion(s) away from the tourist traps. I'm surprised Dev could walk after the shine tasting lol. I'm glad you had a good time. I enjoy your video's. Keep up the good work.

Could you recommend places to stay were you felt comfortable? Thank you 😊
@cherryspeaks9884 жыл бұрын
@@amystevens2209 Where you stay should depend on the type of experience you want and the needs of people in your travel group. A great vacation has fun activities for all. My husband and I would rent a romantic cabin on the mountain. But there's a Westgate property (condos) with an indoor water park. Think about the experience you want, your budget and your group. During these covid days you should get excellent rates on most locations. Use the internet to research different venues i.e. hotels vs cabins or condos. I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

@@amystevens2209 You're welcomed Amy. There are some great cabins there. We usually get one with multiple Jacuzzi's and a rec room with a pool table. We bring our favorite movies or something we haven't seen yet. There is plenty of things to do in the 3 towns (Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge) but for real quality time with your family also think of things to do within the resort. Enjoy

Those type of people are everywhere. I can tell you without a doubt sooo many people are friendly here in TN and welcoming. Don’t let the few ruin any plans to visit Tennessee. If we ran into you I would of welcome you to join us and have a good time experiencing East Tennessee. Next time your here you should totally go to Cades Cove. It’s beautiful and you are almost guaranteed to see bears. Also, if y’all wanna come back to Dollywood hit me up because I have a ton of bring a friend passes for Dollywood since I’m a pass holder.

I appreciate both of your honesty about all aspects of this trip, especially visiting as a POC. It helps me determine whether or not a place is safe when I hear first hand accounts! Dollywood is looking like a go to on my list. It is incredibly important that people know these are things we have to consider when taking trips. Not brush them off with, “there are ignorant ppl everywhere,” but rather acknowledge it so we can work on it as a country/society. Thank you for being honest, I know it can be intimidating when you have a platform and I see it as brave and hopefully it’s well received❤️.

It’s really not that big of a issue in that area. It’s when you go out in the rural areas outside of Penguin Forge/Gatlinburg. As a white guy I don’t go out in the rural areas because it freaks me out.
@83lulube4 жыл бұрын
I actually saw this outside of Nashville once. Not me, of course, because it's not an issue for me. But, I saw two white guys stare at black people walking by at a flea market. It saddens me to think that in the year 2020 we're still seeing racism at its finest, even if it is subtle. Even in Florida it exists, but more so the older community is where I've seen it. I live in Florida, I've seen it TWICE. My husband was asked once by our security guard of 50 something and white why they don't higher more white nurses at the hospital he works at. Really? Why does that matter?🤦♀️

So true but having grown up in this area in a very small rural town (NC side) that kind of behavior is typical. The Smokys are definitely not a melting pot of culture. Appreciate Bianca participating in the review at the end, knowing that she doesn't love being on camera that much but still willing to give us her viewpoint. I'm so glad that you didn't experience anything overtly racist while you were there. Travel is really important so that we can see people who don't look like us. Many of these people probably only see white people on a day to day basis, so they might have experience interacting with others and you might be helping them to get that experience. I know I grew up white in an almost all white rural community, and I just didn't have any experience interacting with other ethnicities for the first 18 years of my life. Getting a chance to be around people who are different than us is so important.

I've vacationed to the smokies many times and since that is a very touristy area I feel like they're more open minded there. If you were to go to the smaller towns in rural TN you may have a different experience. I'm so happy to hear that you felt welcomed there in pigeon forge. Just watched your video in Pigeon Forge. It was great to see someone excited to see the mountains for the first time and experience them. We have been going there for many years and I can assure you there are many more experiences to be had. The water falls, the trails, and the atmosphere will overtake you. We love Florida too, Orlando has been our destination for years. We are avid Disney visitors, especially Ft. Wilderness, Hope we can cross paths one day. Stay safe.

Great vlog guys, it is such a shame that some people judge just because you are different than them. But I’m so glad you had a great time.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely love Bianca's laugh. It's so contagious I couldn't help but laugh right along with her. ❤ Great video as well.

I enjoyed this vid. I haven’t been out to Dollywood since I was a kid and I remember the food! You don’t sound ignorant at all. Going as a kid I even felt uncomfortable in certain parts of TN which is why I haven’t gone back. It’s your experience. Thanks for sharing.

As a Tennessean, I am really sorry you felt any form of criticism or racism ...makes me sick. People around here just are stuck. Especially with a majority red state. I’m blue and support you guys 1000%. I’ve been on the coaster you guys did, too! All the love and support!
