@dan fyi "fishes" is also correct🤣🤣🤣🤣
@604Jimmy11 ай бұрын
The word "fish" can be used as both singular and plural when referring to multiple individuals of the same species. However, when referring to different species, "fishes" is used. For example, if you have three salmon, you would say "three fish." But if you have a salmon, a trout, and a bass, you would say "three fishes," as they are different species.

An American living in southern Sri Lanka here. I can confirm that the monsoon season normally ends in the second half of November, thus leading to "The Season" in time for the holidays. This year has been very strange though; the monsoons lasted about a month and half longer than usual. Here in Galle we had sunshine today, our first all-day "Season"-like day in the past couple of months. So I'm not surprised you guys had the weather that you did.

The reason why Maamigili has a regular airport is because of Maldivian business tycoon Qasim Ibrahim who founded the Villa Group, which owns the airline you flew on among other things. He grew up on Maamigili, and so he wanted to develop the infrastructure and facilities of the island and make it an airport big enough so planes from abroad visiting his resorts will be able to land directly on this airport instead of having to stop off at Malé. And yes, tourism has been eating away at these islands). Poor water quality, contaminated lagoons, vital coastal vegetation cleared which leads to erosion, the government would rather lease its islands than take good care of its people. An ex-president went to jail because of island lease bribery.

I went in 2017 and again last year. One island had developed a lot in that time. The biggest difference was they had actually made the island bigger (extending the bikini beach), and more multi story hotels were being built. I'm glad I went and saw it how it was the first time. Even on Maafushi I flew my drone and could see they we making a new island just nearby, so weirdly they are actually able to make some more land to build on. I think for some places that might work and be ok, but for others it would end up ruining what made the island more special/unique.

Shame you didn't get to swim with whale sharks! But yes, whale sharks are absolutely incredible creatures! The whale shark is enormous and reportedly capable of reaching a maximum length of about 18 meters. Each whale shark has a unique pattern of spots and stripes, sort of like our fingerprints. These patterns help scientists keep track of their movements as they migrate through tropical waters, including along the coasts of South Africa, western Australia, Thailand, and Mexico. Whale sharks have tiny teeth that cover their eyeballs, probably to protect the peepers from the harsh ocean habitat. One fish had over 3,000 teeth around its iris! A whale shark’s mouth has over 3,000 super-small teeth arranged in more than 300 rows. The whale shark is a filter feeder. It feeds on plankton including copepods, krill, fish eggs, Christmas Island red crab larvae and small nektonic life, such as small squid or fish. It also feeds on clouds of eggs during mass spawning of fish and corals. The many rows of vestigial teeth play no role in feeding. Feeding occurs either by ram filtration, in which the animal opens its mouth and swims forward, pushing water and food into the mouth, or by active suction feeding, in which the animal opens and closes its mouth, sucking in volumes of water that are then expelled through the gills. In both cases, the filter pads serve to separate food from water.

If that was their dream they should have come for a week, booked a local boat, and snorkeled (free dived) every day looking. Even when it was raining! The negative attitude took away from the trip! They should have relaxed, swam at the beach, and tried to be more adventurous!

I stayed on Dhigurah last year in February and ,though I cant deny that there is lots of building works and the "town" looks a bit scruffy, the weather was perfect and the beaches had no seaweed . Even the "swampy" area didn't look as bad as in your video . The local islands are all rapidly developing, some badly like Maafushi, others quite well like Ukulhas who are trying to develop sustainably . There is little regulation to prevent high rise buildings though and that's the worst thing you want on a paradise island . On a final note my first trip to the Maldives was also in December at a super swanky resort costing thousands a night and it rained for 5 out of the six days I was there and I had a miserable time ! I have had 2 visits to local islands and much prefer the real Maldives to the pristine resorts .

I was in the Maldives just a month before you, and I have to say I was super worried about the weather as well. I also got a fair amount of rain--maybe for about half the time I was there--but because I was at a resort and my main goal was to unwind and relax, it didn't affect my vacation quite as much as yours! Coincidentally, I know someone who was there in July--which I thought would be the rainiest time--and she didn't get a single cloudy day during her stay! Go figure. Thanks for sharing your experience though--and not just because I really wanted to visit a local island and wasn't able to, so I was glad to live vicariously through you! Sorry to hear everything went haywire on your trip, but everything is an experience, right? I went to Dhigurah and took the night speedboat to the island. It was the bumpiest ride ever! I was just relieved to be on dry land. The island was stunning, but there was hardly anyone there, and it rained and rained and howled. My fault for going during the monsoon season, but I did have some dry days.

03:55 Never realised before, but that's quite hectic. So, every time you do a flight review, you have to make sure to be first to board the plane. Now that's dedication!

Wow, what a disappointment 😢. I’m surprised how dirty everything was. I’m sorry you were unable to see the marine life. Love the video, following you.

So sad that you didn't get to see the whale sharks again :( Although December is classed as a dry month, that is mainly for the North islands. It's actually one of the wettest in the year (though over slightly less days), for anywhere in the centre and south(i.e. Malé and below). Glad you managed to find some positives though!

Lol love the attempt at the Gratitude Challenge. Great video. I recently experienced a super crazy, middle of the night, through the jungle taxi transfer from the Denpasar Airport to Lovina in northern Bali. I was anticipating this destination known for its schools of dolphins. I get to my accommodation after midnight with only the security guard to greet me. After walking down some stairs and through a garden in the pitch dark we reached my room. I stepped over the three inch threshold and onto a scatter rug that was placed on the glossy white tile floor. And whoosh the rug slipped beneath me and I fell to the ground and majorly twisted my ankle. My four days of anticipated snorkeling were spent in bed with my foot elevated. Never even saw a glimpse of the beach. But, like you, tried to remain grateful.

Happy New Year, Boys🎉🎉🎉Call e jaded ,but,having done the Maldives,as a stop on a boat tour in the 80s,NOTHING would get me back now. The Luxury resorts are too generic & as your vid today shows ,a lots of labour goes into keeping it looking picture perfect. From my experience one great place to see/swim with whale sharks is Oman having lived there(my parents) for 20+ years,we obviously had a very different experience, but,did get to swim on many occasions with these staggeringly huge,placid & beautiful creatures. Having got back from The Holidays in Kenya to cold,dark London, I did empathise with you both trying to make the best of it during rain & storms. Hope this years is everything you wish for; very best wishes to you&yours👋⭐️'s✌️

Weather is crappy everywhere your reportage shows how the best planend trip may turn in a sort of pancake of frustration slow cooked and at times delicious. Florida last year was plagued with red stinky algea. This year tornadoes and torrential rainfalls.

I’ve never had crappy weather on vacation (hope I didn’t jinx myself) 🤞🏾 Totally feel for you guys; I’d be devastated to travel that far and have that happen 💔

Sad to hear your experiance, this years monsoon season hit us different and hard compared to other years. Should have checked the weather. Monsoon season hits in November and will last till December middle. You should come back again, but during summer season. You would love every bit of it. Also island hopping is a thing if resorts are not your vibe. I would recommend you Maafushi Island. You could also do a review of Beond Airlines while you are on it ;)
