Unless you KNOW your neighbors, DO NOT TRUST THEM! Every theft I’ve had, e-bike, BBQ, folding table, umbrella and chairs, outdoor entry rugs and two security cameras happened at RV parks by the neighbors you trust.

The outdoor shower is my favourite option. When we have a big meal, we setup a table and do the dishes outside. Keeps the humidity and moisture down in the trailer. To clean the sensor for the grey water tank, get a tank cleaning wand from your RV dealer, goes on a garden hose.

If your dog ever gets squirted by a skunk or decides to roll in some odiferous substance you’ll really appreciate that outside shower. When you’re in hotter temps that solid plexiglas shelf may be detrimental to the airflow in the fridge. If it’s an issue you could drill a bunch of holes in it. I hope you’re using distilled water in your batteries. Glad to see your still loving your trailer, after 3 years with ours we couldn’t be happier.

I have to say you are the first I’ve ever seen that use a tripod support on a 5.0TA. You both look very fit so it’s not like you have a lot of weight jostling the trailer around. What many do is put some blocks under the front landing gear so they are not extended so far. I usually use 3 or 4. 2x6’s as spacers. Same goes for the rear stabilizers.

The trailers own landing Jack's allow side to side sway. We love our 5.Fifth Wheel too but had that problem. I made drop down metal bars that attach to the landing Jack's. This created a Triangle to the jack bottom which is attached to the middle of the trailers belly. Then I installed another different set that go from the side of Trailers belly to jack bottoms. I made mine hinged and mounted permanently with a clip that supports and stores them during traveling. Now our Trailer is parked off our pickup very rigidly when camping. I use the pin lock and no one can steel it now.!

As a refrigeration engineer, I can tell you that air circulation is the key to all. Moisture is your enemy. Don't overload the refrigerator. Exchange the air to outside if dry and use the A/C or dehumidifier to dry the unit. It will rot otherwise.
@DoriMena
@DoriMena 3 жыл бұрын
Very good advice! Thanks.
@GEORORGE
@GEORORGE 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely your rear of ANY refrigerator should draw in at a low position outside air and then be at a high position, discharging that air outside. Refrigerators of old style have that separated and exchange air like I said. If you go to a compressor or domestic refrigerator usually your RV uses inside air to cool the compressor coils. NO Good. That adds moisture inside your RV. We built a homemade isolation arrangement to change that. Also, one electric dehumidifier of even small size will work. However you have to leave every door and draw open some and all you then do is have several small fans running to mix up the interior air. Makes such a difference.

Great tips, especially regarding condensation. You should get less humidity using the electric heater instead of the furnace. Also, the WeBoost sounds like it has a short or break in the power line. When it's cold there must be some contraction breaking the circuit, then when it warms up the circuit closes. Should be easy enough to test with multi-meter.

@DoriMena

Towing was pretty easy. It was the hitching that took some getting used to. Also, we had to adapt the way we took corners. It's different from turning with a trailer. If I remember correctly gas mileage was about 12 MPG. We really loved it. We sold because the pandemic forced a lifestyle/travel style change on us. We are now traveling in Mexico and we would never have done that with the 5th wheel. In some villages, the streets are just too narrow. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

Also, when your traveling down the road you need to turn off your solar panel controller. Actually we put a switch in our system to isolate the controller from the collectors when traveling. My good friend who sells solar systems explained to me ( its technical jargon ), why for example you go under a hiway overpass for example the cut off of solar rays temporarily, the emerging back into full solar ray's, causes havoc with the electronics. So this is even worse in fast changes of temperature.!

I consider water coming up in the shower as a feature, not a bug. It warns you to dump the gray water before it comes up in the sink. It has to go somewhere! All tank monitors are generally a joke after a few months of use. Especially black tank monitors, which quickly get covered in junk and fail. Fortunately it usually takes weeks to a month to fill up a black tank, and you will dump it before then. Sometimes fresh water level can be checked visually in a compartment somewhere. I have been using black tanks on trailers for 40 years, and the key to carefree camping is to never leave the empty valve open even when you can. That creates a low flow situation, the water will quickly leak out, leaving behind solids that dry out and plug the plumbing up. Just let the black tank fill until you are ready to leave the campground, then when you empty it the flow and weight of 20-30 gallons off water will suck all those solids out and leave it fairly clean. The fuller it is, the cleaner it will dump. Then open the gray water valve, and that relatively clean water will clean out the joined valves and the slinky. Just never leave the valves open, ever. If you do, you are asking for trouble. As for the "formaldehyde" additives, I never use them because I never smell anything. They are a "solution" to a problem I never have.

Nice setup I like the idea of a fibreglass unit - no one making them with a slide out, gets cramped in there for those long rainy times. Escape from what I have seen on their site, they dont have single beds. The only other thing I would have complained about is they got cheap on the batteries -- same with all the manufacturers - still using Lead Acid - and they couldn't even upgrade you to a maintenance free gel lead acid! Cheers

Your factory battery monitor you have will always read full when you are plugged into shore power. When unplugged from shore power is when it gives you the correct reading but they are very general. Dori, I know you no longer own the Escape 5.0, my wife and I have placed an order for the 21NE and now we are having second thoughts and are wondering if we should go with the 5.0 instead. Can you give us your thoughts?? Love watching your videos.. thx
@DoriMena
@DoriMena 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Arnaldo, the main reason we chose the 5.0 TA was how spacious it was. It could also fit in two tandem parking spots easily. That was important to us because we like to stay in forest type settings (National Parks). Those campgrounds usually have smaller sites. It really depends on your lifestyle too. Are you comfortable navigating the 5.0 stairs to and from the bathroom in the dark? Would you prefer to have lots of space for guests to sit and sleep? Are you comfortable towing a long trailer? Also, I believe the bathroom is larger in the 21. Is that a priority? The best way to approach the question is to evaluate your camping style. Also to make a list of the 5-10 most important things you need to be comfortable. Will those things work in both campers or better in one, than the other? I hope that helps in some way!

Unless your tv is larger than 42-50" it is impossible at any distance greater than arms length to see a difference in resolution between 720p and 1080P. 1080pmis good for 65" and 4K for anything over 85" if watching closer than 5 feet ( which IMHO is silly because our vision doesn't work well for viewing at our periphery at close distances .

Hi and welcome to the RV community. It is a great community...the best in the world. There is no heat strip on the Escape A/C unit. I personally prefer the furnace because it can be used when you are dry camping. The reason we opt to use the heater at campgrounds with full hook ups is to save money. Although we only used two bottles of propane in 4-5 months of travel (cost was about $9 CAD per bottle at Costco). Perhaps we didn't consume much because we were mostly at campgrounds with shore power. Thanks for watching!

I didn't scroll through all of your replies, forgive me if you are already aware. Lead Acid batteries give off hydrogen gasses when discharging at very low levels. However, when charging, the gas discharge is increased. Please make sure the enclosed areas where your batteries are stored are ventilated to the outside. Very nice 5th wheeler, on my bucket list.

Great fact filled video Mena, thanks very much! Could you comment on your experiences with cross wind while towing both your Escape 5th wheel trailer compared to your previous Casita conventional trailer. Have you found the Escape more stable in cross wind, head wind, tail wind and semi-trailer bow wind conditions when compared to similar conditions when you towed the Casita? Has you trailer towing fuel mileage suffered with the Escape compared to the Casita?
@DoriMena
@DoriMena 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Garth! The Escape feels slightly heavier and we need to take right turns a bit wider. Otherwise it is comparable. We barely felt the Casita and the same for the Escape. We don’t notice any issues with headwinds or crosswinds. Maybe we haven’t experienced strong enough winds to notice though. I think the trick is to have more than enough truck for what you’re towing. Thanks for watching!

Sounds like your batteries are going to low at times to power the weboost. A battery monitor would help you to manage your batteries with things like that. Also it will tell you when your batteries are under 50 percent. When lead acid batteries get under 50 percent you start to damage the lead plates in the batteries and it shortens the life of the batteries. When your batteries are under 50 percent the volts that a you get out of them are well under 11-12 volts and that’s not enough to power the weboost.

Dori & Mina- Thanks for responding. I will be very interested in hearing your opinion between your two choices. I like the ease of using a converted van, but, at 5'4", I want to be able to stand up! Jim and I current;y have a 2022 Bushwacker Plus 15FK tear drop that is 6' in the center. We also chose it for the dry weight of 1900 lbs for our "toy" Tacoma to pull. But I would like to explore whether we want to pull a larger camper with a 1/2 ton truck or drive an affordable van or Class B. We live in central New Hampshire Lakes Region. If you would like to see our 350 acre working farm, please send me an email. I don't use Facebook. Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun camping! ~ Diane

Wow, what a generous offer. Now for the borders to reopen…lol. Not too sure how it will be. We’re thinking it will be more convenient to park. It was nice having the ability to set up the fifth wheel and have the truck to use for picking up groceries. It was nice to have all that spaced or storage. The cargo van has a high roof which is awesome for Dori. There is lots of head room.

Great size for single or couple, not for family. Rather have the kitchen in the rear, so you could cook and see out the rear. Hate galley kitchen, traffic jamb with 2 or more persons. Bath is little to small for larger adults or handicap or seniors which have limited mobility. Overhead bed is hard for seniors or handicap impaired.

Condensation...its the same as if one is sitting in your car, its cold outside and people BREATHING inside causes condensation. Thats why you put the defrost on. Or OPEN a window. Escapes are made in Canada. We dont have Florida temperatures. Our climate is cold, hot in summer most places. But lots of dry climate. The coast areas have high moisture. We should all have learned the moisture/heat/cold condensation issues in grade school science class. . Plus air humidity percentage ...where mold starts growing. Maybe not all took Chemistry, biology etc, but we learned a lot of this at home too. Or ones own fridge or a wet cloth left too long grows mold. Anyway, good luck. My husband still leaves wet cloths around.😮 If moisture is anywhere in a home, car, or living space, wipe down the moisture, condensation with a towel. Dont let it SIT! And even if its cold outsude, open a windiw or vent.

Buy a toilet wand. They hook up to you water hose. Chances are a prior owner used the toilet. So you gauge is showing full because of stuck paper on the sensors. Have soap scum could also be part of the problem. Most RVs have a grey and a block water tanks yours doesn't. So soap and paper mixed creating a paste covering your seniors. The wand will help get rid of that. Also fill you tank with 1/2 water and some chemicals when you drive to your next couple of destinations. The water will slosh around helping loosen any debris in the tanks.

Hey Folks. I love that you use Melaluca Oil. However the reason your grey tank sensor isn't working correctly is that ( Tea-Tea-Oil ) is ruining your grey tank sensor. Melaluca Oil is NOT compatible with tank sensors.! We know because on our old motor home we ruined 3 grey tank sensors. Then we learned that the mixture of Melaluca oil, ( just like you make ) isn't strong enough to disinfect the toilet.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering the point of an itty-bitty 5th wheel. If I was going that small I'm thinking a truck camper would be the way to go...wouldn't be dragging anything behind you or if you wanted to, you could pull a small cargo trailer for your toys. A 20 ft camp trailer would be much more spacious than this fifth wheel. The fifth wheel also takes up most of the space in the bed of the truck, pulling a camper would open that up for more storage. I guess that is why they make so many different styles....not everyone likes the same thing.

There is a big debate there. It would be best to ask this question on the forum or on their Facebook page. I personally wouldn't go smaller than what we had for safety's sake. We had smaller and we didn't feel safe. Several mechanics advised us against it too. On the other hand we knew someone that towed a 17 foot with a Jeep Cherokee. It's a personal decision. Those tire pressure monitors are genius because they don’t add a weight to the valve stem like most TPMS. TPMS doesn’t catch every blowout in time according to comments on other channels. Some of those say it is good enough to start each trip with proper inflation. These are a step up from that because it is easy to check on each stop. TPMS is better of course since it is continuous.

@DoriMena
@DoriMena 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel! Unfortunately we can't compare it to driving a Class C. The Casita Trailer was our first RV and this is our second one. The Casita was so small we could u-turn on 2 lanes highways....lol. We can't do that anymore but it feels more like the 5th wheel is one with the truck. We have to take our right turns a bit wider than with the Casita. It is very stable on the road and neither the Casita nor the Escape ever swayed in the wind. That can be attributed to the short length. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching.
