Everyone is talking about the incident, but no-one's talking about the big gap Max made, which was gone because of the bad pitstop and the tyre difference. Red Bull made a rare mistake by not having 2 new sets of mediums for the race. big difference in performance which helped Lando a lot and was a big advantage for him

One thing nobody seems to be saying is how after Max and Landos contact, both had puncture and 1 took it easy, limped to pit and finished 5th. And the other went hard after and destroyed the car before getting to pit.

Are we completely ignoring that the only reason Max and Lando came together was a slow pitstop which can't be the drivers fault? Otherwise, he would have finished first with maybe Lando closing the gap to 1s from the 6s he was behind before they pitted.

Slow pitstops seem to get ignored a lot recently. At Barcelona where Norris had 2 pit stops that were significantly slower than Max, costing him 1.7 seconds across both, not a lot was spoken of the pit stops and so much more was made of Lando's poor start when even with that, had his pit stops not had been so poor he likely would have got within DRS range in the closing laps.

I agree with you. The whole weekend he did a great job getting P1 in both quali's and sprint race. In the main race Max worked hard to create an 8 second gap between him and Lando. It was all gone because of the slow pitstop. Yes, that incident was Max's fault but it didn't have to happen.

Kinda interesting that the guy that failed to overtake in the sprint, blatantly abused track limits to stay in attack range and got taken out before his penalty hit gets a higher grade then the guy that got pole twice without actually having the fastest car and got thrown into a battle by a bad pit stop from his team.. yes the contact was on Verstappen but it's also been shown that previous years multiple drivers had way less space then Norris had, but could make the move.. This incident has been blown out of proportion by so many people.. I mean Verstappen avoided Norris with his dive bomb twice i think and prevented a crash on those occasions.

The more you look at the crash the less you see Max was entirely to blame. Lando was driving angry and intentionally took out the red bull's tire. He just didn't anticipate that taking out the left rear would make the car dive left into his car.

Yeah Piastri getting a 9 is ridiculous, 2nd fastest car(fastest car of any finisher except Checo but Checo is shit) and nowhere near Lando in either race(until Lando crashed with Max lol). Its just typical fastest car bias, as long as you aren’t terrible like Checo and just drive your frontrunner car decently you’ll get a 7 minimum guaranteed, whereas the same performance in a backmarker car gets you a 5

So Verstappen gets two poles, wins the sprint, overtaking Norris (who had DRS) without DRS, Battles Norris in the race, avoiding a collision with Norris' divebomb, causes a collision in turn 3. That is a 6, Matt? (btw F1 power rankings also awarded Verstappen just a 6, apparently disregarding the rest of the weekend, just focusing on the collision) I agree with Nico's 10. IMHO he should have been driver of the day, but unfortunately for him, did not get the exposure he deserved because of the battle up front.

You know what a lot of people miss, which I think is pretty funny? Max technically didn't move under braking. Every time he moved the steering wheel, he was off the break pedal. You can hear this from his onboard recordings from the refs from the engine. That is why the stewards had trouble penalizing him for those moves, because again, technically, he didn't move under braking. They made a rule for him seven years ago (no moving under braking) and now he's using a loophole in the rule again. I personally love this shit😂

I personally think redbull had the fastest car for the majority of the weekend so I don't think he "bottled" sprint pole. Either way it was close so he did a good job. Him leaving the door open after overtaking Max was a bit daft but it was still a skilled and tactical overtake by max and then he was left on a bad line after getting overtaken by max so Oscar took the chance, not much he could've done after that since they're In the same car and Oscar is a good driver to keep up with Lando's pace. And thereafter being in the dirty air of Max plus tyre wear there wasn't much of a chance to catch up again and pass him. During main qualifying you could see how mutch better the redbull looked than the Mclaren especially when you consider the gap and Max himself even said the car felt very good. Then in the race it was a similar story with previous races that the Redbull has a pace advantage at the beginning of the race and then tends to fall back towards the end. I think Max still had a good chance of winning if not for the bad pitsop by redbull and by that point the redbull started to drive worse (in Max's words) and Lando started to catch. Their cars still looked fairly close in performance though since Lando was barely hanging on to Max despite the 3 DRS zones. And on Lando's race craft I feel like he was making moves like that because of how hard Max was racing and becuase his car wasnt that much faster at that point. If his car was much faster as you say then I feel like he would've been all over the back of Max in every section of the track, be patient and pass him very easily but that didn't look the case. So I feel like he remembered what happened in the sprint the day before and wanted to take his opportunity as soon as possible before his tyres run out maybe or if the redbull settles down and has pace again. Plus you saw how dangerously Max was defending, so he only started divebombing because that was the only way he was going to get ahead without a penalty (which he knew they weren't going to give) or without a vastly superior car. And I think he only made one egregious move which was the dive bomb where he went off the track completely (but he gave the position back farely). The move where he divebombed but stayed on track was arguably fair and i think Max should've given the place back and the final crash imo wasn't Lando's fault at all and he took a completely normal line but Max slightly steered into him. That's just my opinion and i respect yours being different.

I was initially saying Max was 100% at fault for that collision but after watching it a million times and watching other people's defense on it I don't know. There was room for Lando, he would have had to put 2 wheels on the curb but he would have still been on the track.

Exactly, Max gave more room on that corner than Lando gave on it earlier. And Peter Windsor viewed the on boards and telemetry, Max held the wheel straight, that part of the track (per Windsor) has a dip that pulls cars to the left, so Max did not turn into Lando anyway.

Max also held the racing line. His left tyres were still on the racing line, which means he didn't turn left into him, he was following the line, of which he is entitled to take, since he is the car ahead at that moment. Lando divebombs 3 laps in a row, then tries the outside when he knew it wouldn't work (it hardly ever works at turn 3) and they touch. Why Lando didn't get a penalty there is beyond me, since he basically initiated contact. Max was drifting left because that is how the racing line went, and there was still plenty of room for Lando. Lando was in the mindset of win at all costs, even though he had 6 more chances to overtake at that same corner. Not sure how he didn't have to take a grid drop this weekend, when Perez did the same thing last year, serving the penalty at retirement, then still had the grid drop the next race. Lando needs to learn some patience. Instead of a potential minimum of 30 points for the team, he cost his team 12 points and added a repair bill on the car that takes out of their development budget. Zak needs to set him down and explain how team racing works. The FIA's lack of consistency blows my mind.

That would have been forcing a driver off track by Verstappen, the white lines dictate the track, he didn’t leave space on track, and he moved under braking not once but three times during the race, Max is wholy at fault, the defence the Verstappen fans are coming up with are stretches, all of the examples people used were of battles happening before the rules were changed because of Verstappen moving in the braking zones 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, Max has had issues with Kimi, Lewis, Vettel, ricciardo, Bottas and many more for doing this. 100%, Matt and Tommy are bathed head first in to Sky British bias, so no wonder they fell for it. The actual proof is the onboards and telemetry, which were not being shown. Sky were very quick to show some footage that matched their own bias, nicely cherry picked so they could side with their British driver. And the pitchfork mob is obviously always ready to pounce on every opportunity they get to slander Max.

The British Bias is real. Imagine giving Lando a 7-8 and Max a 6 for the exact same incident, despite Max being the fastest driver all weekend, getting on pole both times and winning the sprint. I would too be docking my imaginary points from Max for his on-track behaviour and would also dock Lando points for bottling p2 in the sprint and also not having better survival instincts in the race. it’s kinda funny to see Charles getting a 5 when he did less mistakes than Lando. his terrible weekend wasn’t due to his fault. ‘he put himself so low on the grid and got a crash’ is also kinda not true. he wasn’t 18-19 or even 15, he was with Oscar and Perez - who’s fault the crash was. his quali was with busted breaks and bad tires. he made one mistake through the whole weekend which was due to the car just being awful and him having to over deliver. saying driver ratings and then rate his driving low is weird to me. his craft was 8/9, his car WAS 5. but we’re judging the driver. so why low? and then we have Lando. his car was 9/10, he himself was 5, maybe 6. too many mistakes. and we’re talking about actual craft here. it’s his mistakes as a driver. so granting him high rating because of ‘what if’ is meh. again we can say the same about any driver: if Charles had a better car, he would’ve won just like he did before, if Lewis had a better car he would’ve won and so on. it’s not about ‘what ifs’ and not about the car performance but about drivers. so I feel like either the way you judge those weekends need to chance or the name change to ‘car performance ratings’

Lando had a disastrous weekend so 7/8/9 out of 10 ?! How? Lando messed up in the sprint race with an "amateur" error as he called it himself. Lando did not get first in the sprint and the race, despite sitting in a faster car. During the race Lando choose to not use the curb and eliminated himself, handing Max 10 points on top of his title lead. Perez did better than Lando and LEC, who both deserve a 1 !!

I enjoy your content, but you guys are a bit mental on this Max /Lando thing. Please look at the still you use just prior to the collision, and how much track there is on a slow corner. The same corner where Lando sent Max all the way off a couple of times in that race. When they touched, only Lando's left tires were off track, meaning Max defended that corner quite a bit less than Lando did before. And if you are going to base it off of earlier driving, then include Lando's driving as well, this is just make believe on your parts.

Sainz pushed Max to the side but instead of crashing, Max got onto the curb and changed his line before overtaking on the straight to turn 4. It was pretty much was Lando should have done to get Max this weekend instead of divebombs or just holding the line resulting in a crash.

Max personally I would have given a 8 or 9. His defense was insane aggressive as hell and definitely some moves were questionable, however the one that caused damage there are several clips were a Ferrari in the same spot max is and a red bull is on the curb instead of Lando that didn't get on ther curb. I personally feel the contact as it was Max's fault Lando did have room that he didn't use. Then after the crash he slapped on softs and was absolutely FLYING over a second faster per lap than Hamilton.

Verstappen gets a 7 out of 10 for costing himself the opportunity for a P1 or P2, but actually by finishing P5 with Norris DNF het gained 10 points on him (plus 2 in the sprint), instead if gaining 6-8 or losing 6-8 had they both finished 1-2. The points result does not warrant a "low mark".

Like i understand that the Incident was primarily the fault of Max but it wasn’t like Lando had a perfectly clean race. So i don’t really understand all the hate max is receiving. We all wanted hard racing and now it happened and all of a sudden it’s not okay. I don’t get it. And I don’t really like the way McLaren ist handling the situation. And the fact the penalty was announced just after the crash, after seeming to take so long, hasn't gotten a lot of attention. If it comes out Lando has it, then Lando has no reason to pass Max because given what was left of the race, no chance he gets 5 seconds clear of Max.

The penalty drops Alonso from sixth to eighth in the official Australian Grand Prix results. Fernando Alonso was assessed a 20-second penalty following George Russell's crash at the end of the Australian Grand Prix. Russell crashed out as he was chasing Alonso for sixth place. Verstappen already complained during the race that Norris was 'dive-bombing' him. The McLaren driver made several attempts According to article 33.3 of the Sporting Regulations, “Drivers must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not leave the track without a justifiable reason. “Should a car leave the track, the driver may re-join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage. 6 for max is absolutely diabolical. man drove perfect all weekend. drove perfect in the race even when things got hard and after the botched pit. The battle was hard racing between both drivers. You guys were talking about moving under braking. But sending it from 3 car lenghts back without a shot of making it is also very questionable. And the contact was so minimal, For him to be given a 6 is ridiculous. Normally agree. but both were to blame in that accident. Max didnt even move under braking. He took his line and then braked. lando could also have avoided it with ease. maybe even giving himself a better run by driving on the kerb. Lando and max were clumsy in that incident. Lando just chose not to avoid it. Which is arguably as bad as what verstappen did. and lando didnt drive to the pits in a correct manner. causing him to lose ALL the points. If he did what verstappen did. he couldve brought home points and keep the gap to max close. Instead he ran off like a child. Not trying to meatride max. But giving an 8 to norris while giving a 6 to max is a bad take IMO.

1. We all know that he shouldn't have gotten a track limits for that. He didn't gain anything from it. Track limit warnings are there to deter drivers from gaining lap time through abusing more optimal lines that aren't part of the circuit. The stewards/FIA were completely brain AFK on Sunday. 2. He gave Max the position back because it wasn't earnt. If this happened in a normal race situation no-one would be talking about it because this happens all the time throughout any season. Drivers make a mistake on a move that sees them run off track after out-braking themselves and give the position back or suffer a 10 (used to be 5) second penalty.

Losing faith on you guys, "Lando should have won sprint..." And "Lando should have won the Race..." those are all wishful thinking. Reality kicks hard. Take a look at Peter Windsor's analysis about the crash. Even him that leans towards British drivers told that on the telemetry was clear that Max didn't move under braking not even once, and Lando was missing the brake points because of the DRS when dive-bombing. MAX did what was necessary and possible. The outcome was 50/50 guilt share. Edit: Max was POLE(4x)+Win+Leading, Lando was what+what+what? and ends up with higher "grades"? lol that's fuel for social network bullying.

Show me one divebomb from Verstappen that was from 30 meters back. People remember divebombs that were from 5 meters back and think that was wild. Norris was never close. People should try and make a honest comparison, not just assert Verstappen does the same because that is simply false.

Saying Magnussen didn't play the team game is wrong. He didn't want to true, but he 💯 backed off Nico's gearbox when he was directly asked not to attack Nico. He hates the fact that they had to manage tires when he replied F that.

Love Tommy's take on Norris v Verstappen. I feel like that's the correct way to view this situation, like sure it would be great if they hadn't crashed and we had that fight all the way to the end of the race, but we got some incredible action that the F1 community has been craving for years and it's finally coming consistently. Like he said, sign me up every single weekend for that!

I'm genuinely worried for Logan. As a competitor if you give him an opportunity he won't allow himself to say no. But he just isn't at F1 level and it looks damaging at this point. Throw in the towel.
