Wind storm, rain, and lots of destruction; well, this storm definitely came unexpected. Thousands of dollars worth of damage does not look good but that won't stop us from moving forward. There is plenty of work to get done, especially now. Welcome to Cornstar Farms!

Cole The Cornstar, aka Cole, is a 4th generation family farmer from Central Iowa who is the life force behind his family’s 1,700 acre farm. Cole promotes agriculture by filming his day-to-day adventures with his Dad (Daddy Cornstar) and brother (Cooper) on the farm. With a lot of help from Daddy Cornstar, Cole instills humor and education into his videos fit for both young adults and adults. Despite being 22-years old, Cole has an old-fashion work ethic with an innovative approach toward agricultural technology and practices. Cole's mission is to prove the American Dream is not dead and be a megaphone for agricultural education and innovation, from technological advances in farming equipment to conservation practices.

Is tough to be a farmer, almost always. One day they as well as contractors..humble and hard working people, will be recognized and more respected, better yet, am looking forward to the day in which we all help each other like a global family, life will be much easier then, everyone's problems, will be our problems, and hopefully we have the attitude of I can help, and resolve it all, or all I can, and we may find yet more heroes, as we try to be One!

@johnny smit Think about it this way...it's not hurting anyone else for us to believe in God and His help. As long as it's not hurting anyone else, what difference does it make? Honestly. If you believed in the tooth fairy I would disagree, but that would be your choice.

@johnny smit First, I agree that there are "SOME" churches that act like cults...I also agree with you that some people go to church and act one way, then go out into the world and act completely a different way. It sounds to me as if you've had some really bad experiences with those who have called themselves christians. If that's the case, then I'm truly sorry, but although none of us are perfect, also not all christians are like the ones that you've experienced either.
@Sheryl777
@Sheryl777 4 жыл бұрын
And to answer your question about bad things that happen in the world, as christians, we believe that there is a devil, satan, call him what you will....and that "he" is the one who wants to destroy, cause major problems, etc. Some things just happen, but it is in no way God destroying people's lives. Just wanted to respond to your valid question.

You're calm reaction is impressive. Iowans and farmers in general are tough people. I admire your comments about God. Not all people feel or think that way. It looks like many of your neighbors and co-op suffered alot of damage. Keep the faith and more forward. May the angels walk among you and help lift the burdens and challenges everyone faces.

My sister, who lives in Marshalltown, out by the Animal Rescue League lost her huge indoor riding arena, horse barn, and her home and garage. 2 of 4 horses in the barn were also hurt. 1 was found in a bean field about 1 1/2 miles from her place. We had an irrigation tunnel (100 years old) going through a mountain that collapsed and we lost our irrigation water and it affected 100 thousand acres (not all od ours only about 600 of ours) and then this year we had a hail storm and took the yeild down esitmating about 30 to 40 bushels and in the same storm we had two pivots flipped on land we farm but do not own. It always good to still have a sense of humor when something bad like in your situation or in mine. Good luck cole

Several years ago I lost my home in the middle of the night due to a electrical fire. Our whole family & animals got out safe. The insurance adjuster said "us surviving that kind of fire, was the same odds as winning the lottery 3 times in a row." We lost everything but our lives, thanks to God. I learned then everything is just material and can be replaced, except for us. Nothing material is worth shedding one tear or one minute of sleep over. You & yours are blessed to be alive, we are praying for your family. ❤❤❤

I don’t know about the wood they use to build with in Iowa but here in Alabama we use mostly pine and the way pine trees are genetically altered to grow faster has resulted in smaller growth rings in the trees which results in weaker boards when the trees are sawed and planed. Old houses built with older pine are still standing next to brand new houses that get blown away.

My eldest brother and I rode out Hurricane Katrina in my parents house. Same kind of wind and rain as your storm, but higher wind speeds and more rain. It took 16 hours for that to pass. We spent the next three days with my uncle, his kids and two neighbors cutting a path through downed trees just to get out to the main road. I've rode out and cleaned up after three Hurricanes in my time so far. It can be overwhelming, but trust in God, your family and friends and it will in time all workout.

Been through multiple devastating hurricanes in Florida during my years. I've always been spared the worst of it and was able to help others. There's nothing more valuable than neighbors helping each other. It sounds like everybody there cares a lot about each other and will be there to help. I'm sorry for you troubles. Keep the faith....

I heard about the storm this morning and started praying. I had a feeling this isn't the first disastrous weather y'all have had...but that doesn't help much when you're in the middle of a time like this. Yehovah IS our Provider, though. I pray all His blessings and favor on the Cornstar family and everyone else who experienced damage.

So sorry that this happened - Farmers work so hard to get the crop in the ground, care for it & then in a few minutes it can all be lost. Been there, but farm life is in your blood & just like Cole said you can pout or cry about it, but what good does that do? In reality you just pick up, clean up & sharpen your pencil to see what the year end will be. Prayers for the Corn Star Family & your neighbors. Glad no one was killed & that your home weathered it so well. Buildings, grain bins can all be rebuilt, & yes its costly but at the end of the day you Praise the Lord & are thankful your all alive!!

There is nothing more disheartening than seeing untold hours of work and equipment needed disappear and destroyed in the space of an hour or two. I've been through a derecho event. Sorry about all the damage everyone in Iowa had to endure. My Dad was a Iowa Boy, Lost Nation to be exact. We were having a cookout one day and from nowhere comes the green/orange skies. Husband grabbed the food, I grabbed the baby and my Dad just sat at the picnic table, his arm was layed calmly across the tablecloth eating. Your comment of sitting on the porch, made me smile. Praying for you guys, you have a lot of work to do.

Here's what the local Seattle news said about your storm: Powerful derecho with 100 mph winds leaves path of devastation across Midwest A derecho is a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system. Derechos can cause hurricane-force winds, tornadoes, heavy rains, and flash floods. We're glad you're alright...

Dear Cornstar family! Those “Derecho” winds are so destructive! I live in SE IA and had winds, but nothing like the winds central IA got! It doesn’t take much wind for corn to be blown over and once blown down it’s pretty hard to, if not impossible, to combine - we had that happen several times when farming. I thank the good Lord no one was injured physically, not so sure about mentally if farm insurance (or any other insurance) wasn’t had. Looking forward to the “cleaning up” videos and praying for all families who had damage!

That would of been scary! I was in a bad storm in the early '80's in Southern MN & afterwards the crops as far as you could see looked like they were mowed with a giant's lawn mower. And the same thing with the wooden power poles- snapped like toothpicks. I left the States almost twenty years ago and moved to the UK (the North- where it doesn't even lightning very often). I don't want to live through that again. We get gales here. My 200yr old stone house vibrates in gales; seems pretty tame compared to that storm. Hope your Son is ok.
