Don’t do the mudding. Hanging sheet rock isn’t bad, but mudding and sanding is a crap ton of frustrating work if you’re not used to it. Hire a contractor for that. It will go quicker and the finished product will be better. Signed - a guy who has done more mudding than he should have before figuring this out. 😂

Parts shortages are affecting pedal builders. I was finally notified in the middle of July that I could get a Snouse Black Box built after a year wait, and it has finally shipped. The thing was that I had gotten a notification that a shipping label was created, but I had to follow up a couple times, and I was notified they are dealing with parts shortages and I was lucky to get mine built. They may have to stop production for a period of time due to parts shortages.

The other nice thing about 3-Transistor fuzz circuits ala Tone Bender is they typically have enough gain/saturation on their own to sound amazing into cleaner setups/amps as well, which can't always be said about 1 transistor (Rangemaster) or 2-transistor (Fuzz Face/MK1.5) type circuits

My fave and current Fuzz and which has an octave option is the Fjord Fuzz Odin. Fantastic sound and just one large (enough to be possibly foot adjustable) gain/volume knob. Mind you my first ever pedal back bought used in the early 70s was a Vox Tonebender Mk 11 for about £10! Sadly it eventually stopped working and I let it go years later in a trade - d’oh!

As soon as you spoke about the guitar, it made it an item for flip. That is the world we live in and due to the Internet it’s not going to change. For example: Ask anyone who drank bourbon prior to 2018. Ok, I’m in…haven’t even heard the show! I collect Fuzz, not for resale, but for Tone. I have some boutique beauties, and recently picked up a Zonk/Mark I NOS pedal from a builder in Ireland. I think part of the concern with people flipping the signature Novos is the fact that there's a significantly higher demand for these guitars than there is supply, even before you look to the demand for a lower price option for people. If Novo raised the price of the signature, it would eventually sell to the people willing to pay the inflated prices, but there is the risk that it won't sell for a while if you do that. It's complex, and unique to the market and how it's structured
@danmorrison87463 жыл бұрын
Big Muff is the best fuzz - germanium, silicon, or IC. Doesn't care about impedance or location in your chain. Can go from overdrive to blistering fuzz. David Gilmour to Smashing Pumpkins to early Mastodon. Fuzz faces and tonebenders etc. can be fun and I have those too but a Big Muff will get you whatever you want. Earthbound Audio Supercollider and Rudetech 3Muf:14 are my favorite Big Muffs but if boutique is out of reach, EHX's will do the damn thing for a great price. And if you're thinking "BUT THE MID CUT" run it into a mid-forward drive set low. Done and done.

Can confirm that the love of germanium is about 90% zeitgeist. I've built a few tonebender mkII (and I've had a mk1 on the breadboard) style fuzzes with modern silicone transistors and they sound pretty ace. Top end is a little crispier, but it's not a big difference from germs that I've tried. Just wanted to say that I appreciate Zach's attitude towards NOS 'mojo'.
@CorbCorbin3 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely nostalgia and cork sniffing nonsense sometimes, as a good builder can make a silicon transistor Fuzz Face that can sound like any germanium “warmth,” cleanup, or whatever the thing is that the person believes only comes from Germanium. There’s a reason that silicon started being used, snd it was because the germanium were trash, constantly sounding different, temperature issues, or just going out completely. There are some new germanium fizzes that fix those issues, as well as the Wah and buffer problems. I’ve been using the Sitek Fuzzy, which I chose over the new Benson, because it was half the price with those same fixes, plus it has a contour control as well. Check Deep Trip for silicon Fuzzes that can do what the germanium ones can plus much more.

for me personally, versatility is king. a box needs to do a thing- *and* it needs to be adjustable to do a bunch of other things, so i don't end up needing to buy six more boxes to do six other things. having this in mind, my research led me to the Alpha Haunt by OBNE. it does the fuzz thing perfectly... and it's adjustable to do a bunch of other things as well. just my $.02 edit: the amount of fuzz-induced stank-face in this episode is unmatched. so, so into it

Great show fellas. 😎 Of note, I found it interesting hearing Rhett saying the big muff's are too difficult to get into, in terms of keeping up with who played what ,with the different versions of big muffs. That's neither here nor there, it's what you like as with any pedal (unless your in a covers band 😆); but you are very into all of that stuff generally, so perhaps big muffs just not your thing. 😐 However, you've got the T4 on your board, (which I own) & that gives you an excellent range of useable tones. Excellent big muff 'style' pedal. Cheers! 🎸🎸🎸

British Pedal Company/Vintage Pedal Workshop do apparently make a good product but have a somewhat questionable heritage and reputation. I recommend folks do their own reading and come to their own conclusions. Some of the OG circuit designers such as Gary Hurst have some things to say, for example.
Wow, flipping gear for profit is so rampant. I subscribe to a couple of pedal builders, any of them will run a sale or preorder on a new pedal and as soon as they ship, there out there at two or three times what the builder sold them for. Capitalism folks, it's all what the market will bear. I agree on the guitar bit, collector's buy to put in a storage unit or on a wall. Someone should be playing that guitar.

Flipping seems to be more an American pastime. Not to say it's exclusively, or even near it, but it would seem that the idea originated there and has spread. Us in Europe suffer the same, and we have to put up with the type of prick who makes money from the Waza version, or whatever it is, and it's really disappointing for those of us who want a thing because it's a thing. Same goes for concert or sports tickets even. Why pay £30 for a ticket, when you can pay £180 the day before outside the venue?! Fucking scalpers are trash wherever you are, but the market leads. If there weren't people willing to pay (something I'd never do), then they're in business. If no one paid over the odds just because, they wouldn't be in business. The blame lies in the buyer, not the seller. If I can make 5x the amount on something, and I can avoid being a prick, then why on earth wouldn't I?

People who scalp/flip are scum. They're just piggybacking off someone else's work to earn a quick buck. I somewhat also blame the people who purchase flipped items since they're unintentionally allowing the process the continue. I hope we can figure out better measures to ensure products are being bought be people that genuinely want them.
@Ones_Complement2 жыл бұрын
Eh. If a flipper is able to command a higher price for it, you should simply be grateful for the essential lottery opportunity Novo offers by under-pricing it to begin with. You get the guitar out the gate, you won the draw. You missed it? Tough. Absent of any coercion, you're basically just pissing in the winds of fundamental supply and demand.

But if someone wants to buy a guitar just to flip one bc they are in a position to do so, they can. It doesn't mean it won't end up in somebody's hands that does truly want it..right?
