A very nice tribute to Amelia. Her mystery is just like her namesake. I always enjoy your videos, with the great soundtracks and the side shot snippets of other things going on. Eli singing and rocking Isabelle was a beautiful shot. And at the end, Eli pushing Becky and Isabelle in that wonderful swing. The pure joy on Isabelle's little face was so moving. Have a wonderful weekend to one and all (including all the critters).

Here's hoping she just decided to go on an adventure and will show back up just as randomly as she went missing. Also sorry about the guineas. Had been wondering what was going on with them since we haven't seen them in a while. Never easy to lose animals, but i guess that is just part of the circle of life. Hopefully you guys can get the aviary up and running soon so this doesn't have to keep happening!

I just had a missing chicken issue. I thought she was flying out of the enclosure, she was missing for at least a month and I thought a coon got her. Then she showed up in the coop one day, and then disappeared again. Everyone reading this is yelling "she's broody!" And you are correct. She found a hiding spot and was sitting on one of her own eggs which unfortunately isn't fertile so I gave her 2 fertile eggs but I don't know how long she was on the infertile egg, don't want her getting sick from being broody too long.

That's what I was thinking. She's probably taken her broody self to a hiding spot and she could be sitting on a nest

I personally think Amelia duckheart finally decided she wanted to fly across the whole world to spread her wings. You gave her the ability to fly and i think she recognized the gift and took advantage. I dont think a predator got her!
@rhondaalbrecht2 жыл бұрын
It's possible that she went broody and decided to go off and hide, even though she is unable to hatch any fertile eggs, she'll still try. The fact that you didn't see any evidence of predators (her feathers, etc.) showing... it's possible she'll show up in 28 days.

I know you don't want the reeds in the pond, but maybe consider growing some sort of coverage for your birds by the coop? Some people suggested berry bushes, so they can be useful in more ways than one. I also wonder if geese would help guard the ducks. I don't know enough about geese and ducks though, so I would research that. Glad you got the cameras up! That'll help some.
@vaporcolesynder65942 жыл бұрын
Great suggestions, i agree on the berry bush thing, or some sort of coverage. They can find a way to hide themselves from predators if they're feeling threatened. I do own geese, however, and used to own ducks, and in my experience, geese usually just bully ducks off of the pond which would leave them vulnerable to land predators. Geese are unlikely to protect the ducks unless they're raised together, probably. a great idea though! but maybe the experience is different depending on the breed, age, and gender of the goose. For reference to anyone who happens to read my comment, domesticated Chinese and African geese are the breeds of geese I own.

A good thing to do for your ducks is to leave your pond open, so in the day when an owl trys to attack (which is highly unlikely since most owls are nocturnal), the ducks can escape to the water, which is what most do in the wild.

I'm going to write my own ending to this story. Several weeks after Ameillia went missing, one day, she came waddling up to the chicken coop with 12 babies following behind her. Out exploring one day, Ameillia stumbled upon an abandoned nest full of eggs. Ameillia sat down and didn't leave until, one by one, the babies started hatching. After all her babies hatched, she wanted to show them off to her family so she returned home and they all lived happily ever after.
@j_toledo4192 жыл бұрын
Might sound crazy but there's a good chance the dog ate up the baits because she knows predators could potentially be tempted in. Could be a sign of a solid guard dog. She's clearly fed well so I personally doubt it was just a quick snack. 👍

So sorry about Amelia, she was definitely a special duck. Hopefully she is still around somewhere and will come back. Awful news about the guineas too, it's never easy losing animals, but it's a part of life and we have to keep moving forward. Hopefully Manny will be fine as well. We have a rooster who somehow broke his spur off completely in a fight! He healed just fine, although, since he broke off the whole thing including the core, his spur has not grown back. Manny's most likely will grow back though. Wishing you all the best. God Bless You!

She will be sitting on eggs somewhere, ducks like it ultra-quiet areas to nest, all the action in the coop was not suffice for her, this is obvious because of her broody feathers in the nest box.. meaning she was considering that spot as a sitting but change her mind in the end when she was ready to lay..
